Ethiopia is a really weak trading node so if you want to make money off of trade your best bet is to do this: Conquer the Horn of Africa and the Swahili coast and move your trading capital to the Zanzibar node. Zanzibar is an amazing node that gets fed by 4 trading nodes (Great Lakes, Gulf of Aden, Zambezi and Malacca) and only flows into one node (Cape of Good Hope, which you can block if you colonize there). Taking colonization and expanding into Indonesia and the Indian Ocean will do wonders for your trading situation due to the direct link between Malacca and Zanzibar.

@@dmangoman1 bro slavery destabilized Africa as a whole. Manpower became depleted and the labor shortage in such a large area made institution spread impossible, in such a large land mass. Remember Africa bigger than Europe, China, USA and India combined. But with half the population of Europe’s for most of its time.

One thing you can do with your traders is try to keep all the money away from Europe by sending it around Africa

Heh. Tempting, but I'm not sure it would have much effect this early in the game. I don't have enough influence in any of the trade nodes to make much of an impact. Later on, though... maybe. >:D

seems like Ethiopia might benefit from Colonizing given all the tiles you can take near you. That being said doesn't look like anyone is doing alot of that for a while.

So great powers can do this. Pay of peoples debt so they don't have the excuse of not joining your war with a debt of 100 ducats. Intervene in a war that has great powers on both sides to balance it out or just being a dick and kick their asses. And the other one i remember is a threaten war but to make people stop being allied to each other.

Wait Ethiopia is an empire? Wow that's very powerful, I thought Byzantium and Ming were the only empires at 1444 start.

Technically, it was an empire since around 1270-1310. The Zagwe period was only a rather small Kushitic kingdom limited to certain parts of the highlands.

The Amhara and Tigray are Semitic and the Sidamo and Somali are Cushitic.

actually all of them are Cushitic, but because the Ethiopian, Amharic, tegre and gurage used to live in the highlands starting from ancient times, they started adapting and their features became more Caucasian like, and they speak a ithelic language not semetic, all afro asiatic languages are ithelic not semetic.

@@qwertzuiopu8161 That wasn't a real conquer. The fighting never fully stopped. It was more of a temporary occupation. In fact the brits came in did the same before the Italians when the Emperor of Ethiopia held an English diplomat hostage.

You sure? I don't think it only applies to mountains, I think it can apply to other defensive terrain as well. I was under the impression maneuver played a role, but I could be wrong.

Hmm. Take a look at episode 4, where it looks like I got the same terrain bonus in the highlands instead of the mountains.

iptf Nope, but there are a lot of coptic provinces, which you can use to force-convert yourself. Funnily enough, Aq Qoyunlu gets force-converted to coptic in my games often...

Ethiopia always starts as Empire no matter the game you start in EU 4, others like Byzantine also starts as Empire

Pravus, Ibadi isn't a Heresy in EU4 or CK2 anymore, it's a third branch of Islam now.

Yup, disinheriting is certainly an option. I may end up doing that. However, it comes at the cost of 50 prestige, which is a little steep.
