Euro NCAP Crash & Safety Tests of BMW X2 2022

The BMW X2 is a partner model to X1 and their structure is practically identical. Euro NCAP compared both vehicles to verify that the BMW X1 results could be applied to X2 and performed additional tests where necessary. The footage includes videos of the BMW X1 2022 and additional X2 2024 tests.
Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also traveling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full-width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole
▶ a far-side impact test where the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated by two dummies in the front.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form, and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support, and speed assistance technologies.

This is mostly rehashed X1 test footage from 2022. Not up to your usual standards...

Why crash the same car again? It would just be a waste of very good cars.

It’s great to see that BMW uses adaptive brake lights to alert vehicles behind, even at low speeds, of an AEB event. What is EuroNCAP doing to assess proactive use of adaptive brake lights in these situations? Is this at all factored into the assessment? If I’m following a car, and that car suddenly autonomously brakes due to a child on the road, I’d very much appreciate the adaptive brake lights to activate. At least from viewing these EuroNCAP videos, at the test speeds there still seems to be a lack of a blanket adoption of adaptive brake lights for when sudden braking occurs due to cyclist, pedestrian, etc and I can’t help but think this is a failure from vehicle manufacturers and EuroNCAP testing requirements.
