It's so funny when every other baby animals are so cute then they just become sharper as they grow. Owls... they're gorgeous when they're adults, owlets just look like deformed puppets or dust bunnies lol.

They are one of the coolest birds. I live near a forest where quite a few of these live. Everytime I'm in the forest when it's dark outside, I like to just shout "hoot hoot" into the woods and they will useally reply and hoot back. It's so cool because it feels almost like I'm talking with them.

My favorite owls. Another example of "cute" meets "deadly". Nature really loves to make gorgeous animals and then make them utterly deadly. Case and point? This darling, looks like a plushie, but has claws that can snap a rabbit's neck. I was born in Moscow, and well we might have had a breeding pair in the wooded area nearby, every night they would start hooting. I was maybe 4 at the time, and I remember that sound, they kept me awake with that hooting. It seemed so creepy and disturbing back then.

I held a Eurasian eagle owl at a falconry display in York Gardens some years ago her name was Henriette and she was beautiful, large and quite heavy. When I handed her back to the falconry fellow she started acting up and flapping her wings a she was so powerful doing so I thought she was going to blow us both over. The Eurasian eagle owl has to be one of my favourite birds of prey after spending some time with one.

Magnificent birds. A zoo in Australia claims that some of their Eagle Owls have 7 ft wingspans. The much smaller Great Horned owl of North America has tremendous talon strength that is said to rival that of the much larger Golden eagle. The talon strength of the Eurasian Eagle owl must be phenomenal.

Ventura the ace: I read that Eagle Owls are capable of killing Golden eagles and have taken young eagles as prey. I cannot imagine an owl seeing an adult Golden Eagle as a food source. Since one hunts at night and the other by day they don’t interact much. They are both apex predators. I also read about a Golden Eagle somewhere in North America that killed a Great Horned owl but was so brutalized by the encounter that it barely survived the fight. And lastly, a Bald eagle attacked a Great Horned owl in the daylight when the owl was caught off guard. This occurred at a golf course and the owl was killed. A man had photos of the attack that may still be online if you search for them., Oh yes. One last thing. Can’t Be sure if this is true or not but it has been said that some hunters in an Asian country (Mongolia?) use Eagle Owls to hunt for Golden eagles. Like I said, not sure if that is true or a fabrication.

When Flaco escaped , I talked to a person at a owl center . You are right about the rodenticide from the poisoned rats in NYC . The effects build up and cause weakness so he would be unable to hunt or avoid hazards . I can only hope he would be noticed and rescued in time for successful treatment.
