"Elegy" and "eulogy" are two different things. An elegy is a poem often about a deceased person; a eulogy is typically a speech about a deceased person.

The car jump scare is the best ever on television. The way it’s set up, hidden in a seemingly mundane fight as well as the actors themselves not knowing when it was going to happen, leads to a genuine jump out of your seat moment. Super well done.

@@robertvenegas6113 I heard that too. I love when the director or showrunner gives different information to the certain actors than to other members of the production or even other actors. You get some genuinely expressive results. It reminds me of the whole “let’s not tell Alan Rickman when we’ll be dropping him really” scene at the end of Die Hard.

My take has always been that it was never a case of the dad not reaching out to the kids as adults, but that the adult kids rebuffed those attempts. Like, even Theo mentioned how he'd tried to reach out, and Nell always stayed in touch with him, and he's answering Nell's phone calls in the middle of the night, so he's obviously not being standoffish to the kids. Rather, there are things that he's never been able to tell them about what happened and that's created a distance and resentment in the kids as they've grown up, especially considering the kids left his custody after what happened.

I think it’s interesting that when Hugh wakes up Liv is threatening him with a screwdriver, when he had just used a screwdriver and hammer to try to get into the red room. Like the house is threatening him with the same thing he just attacked it with. That’s some great ‘back off man!’ energy right there!

Tragically, this show (and pretty much all of Flanagan's shows) have been completely passed over by the Emmys (not even any nominations!), despite the extraordinary work by so many of the artists involved. The anti-horror bias strikes again!

One small detail I always liked that was included in Theo's breakdown monologue is how she called Trish after touching Nell's body. Without that detail, it could seem a little pushy/inappropriate for Trish to invite herself to the funeral just because they'd hooked up a few times. But with that detail, you know that a couple nights before, Theo called Trish in the middle of the night in an emotionally vulnerable place. Then Trish sees a funeral notice probably and understands what Theo is going through and wanted to be there for her. It's just a nice little bit of context.

In Shirleys episode she an her husband are talking about the funeral homes finances and how if you give away discounts to over half of the people its not rare cases anymore.... He took the money to help keep Shirleys passion afloat. I agree that its not ok to lie about it. BUT i think she could have listened to them, about the money and the day after the "kiss".

Earlier when they were discussing the funeral Shirley said she doesn't care if Luke doesn't make it, and he's probably getting high. And Theo said Hell no, he HAS to be there. So she cares deeply about other people. She has more empathy than Shirley and Steve. Which explains the career she chose. And with her magic touch she probably has some insight in Luke's problems. I think she was potentially the most interesting character, but something about the way she was written just didn't quite work for me. She could have been more. That doesn't mean its not an amazing show. Because it is.

Kevin took the money because Shirley cuts costs and does pro bono work to the point that the business was in the red. He was using the money from Steve to keep them afloat. I don't think it's the house calling them back so much as it is their mother.

Shirley's husband taking the money had no ill intention. As mentioned during the conversation after he revealed the secret, he used it to pay for expenses for the morgue and help with all the pro bono projects she took up. Still doesn't discount the fact he did it secretly behind her back, knowing how she felt about about the money. Should have told Shirley of the lack of funds and let the ball be on her court instead.

35:24 to this day idk if this actually happened in their youth and Shirley dreamed about it again w only the ending changing, making it a nightmare - or if it *never* happened and was solely a premonition.. Bc we know Shirley has weird dream stuff going on - in the very first episode she said "Theo's dancing in the Red Room" or smth like that, then when they all woke up when Nell died she said "Nelly's in the Red Room" etc. - so.. idk. Either way yeah it was them two - the flashbacks make Steven's stance make more sense but they still don't explain why he was so callous towards his siblings lmao like even if you think it's mental illness there's no need to exploit it/their trauma while also downplaying it and be pretty insensitive to it all imo - i think the family didn't notice Theo's pain bc she's so incredibly guarded and jaded to begin with (and the current circumstances didn't help anyone with any of that) - i really appreciate you understanding how Shirley's husband's decision is a betrayal even if you don't agree w Shirley's stance, so many people understand *neither* and seem so incredibly blinded by the idea that any money is good money, which clearly is the crux of the issue.. let me not start lmao all i'll say is it's been pretty frustrating ngl

This might be my favorite show of all time. The filmmaking, the acting, but especially the incredibly rich and interwoven nonlinear plot and character arcs, are just unmatched. I really enjoyed Midnight Mass and thought Bly Manor was alright (still need to watch Midnight Club and House of Usher), but Hill House is on another level. And as a fan of the novel, I’ve never seen a better execution of adapting a work without staying close to the source material, but also without losing any quality. If anything, this show surpasses the source material.

I liked the way you read Steven! A lot of people hate him and even though it is understandable why, he did his wife dirty, I think people don’t stop to think that he went through some shit too. Seeing his mother do all those things and probably the last time he saw his father was after they left the house, only believing they abandoned their mother and when his father returns he’s all bloodied up. And the fact that the father decided to keep them all in the dark didn’t help either. Steven is an asshole but he also went through so much to become like that, just like every single person there. 😢

Eagerly waiting for the next Chapter in your Lana Del Rey Journey. Norman Fucking Rockwell - Lana Del Rey's Magnum Opus. Established her as one of the best American songwriter. Nominated for AOTY at Grammys but got robbed. Folklore by Taylor Swift was speculated to be inspired by NFR. Chemtrails Over The Country Club - A follow up to Norman carefully designed to be laid back, more indie and folk. Lana was aware it would be tough to follow NFR so she didn't try to, kept it simple. Blue Banisters - An album resulted by carefree approach with combination of new songs and old unreleased songs. (Released just 4-5 months after Chemtrails) Did You Know Their is a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard - The most personal, shocking and lyrically rich project by Lana Del Rey. Better than NFR for many people. Expected to be nominated for AOTY this year.

Shirley's husband isn't a bad guy. He's a bit of a coward, but Shirley is a nightmare to be married to. She kinda turned him into that. The fact he puts up with her is frankly the most ridiculous thing about him. And I say that as a woman myself, and a wife. She's a total controlling jerk to literally everyone, not just her husband. Even when she's nice to clients she pushes her own baggage onto them (like the "need" to have an open casket so she has a reason to "fix" the deceased). I empathize with her trauma, and I don't hate her. But she is easily the most annoying character, IMO. Him taking the money was to save their lives (and their children's!) from ruin. She keeps pushing these big open casket funerals, despite people NOT wanting them, and NOT having the money, just so she can keep trying to relive the relief from seeing her mom look sorta ok at her funeral. It's totally unhealthy, selfish, and creepy. Though I'm not nad that she's awful. I think that's what the point of her story sort of is. She's awful on purpose.

The ghost in the car is Nell. I believe the knocking and banging earlier at Shirley's place was also Nell. And the thing when they were kids, I believe that was her future ghost. You will notice it happened whenever Shirley and Theo started fighting. Who knows.. With a show like this you really have to be patient and let the story unfold without trying to analyse everything. That makes the whole experience just so much more satisfying. And with this show in particular, you really shouldn't try to make any predictions, because you're probably going to be wrong anyway.

Well, since Theo is a lesbian, it should be clear to everyone that she is not really cheating on her sister with her husband. That there is probably something else behind it than the obvious. There is mold in the house. Mould also affects the health of residents. You breathe in mold and it can also affect the brain. This is another possibility that people see things or that the mother has increased migraines. And again Nell interrupts an argument. When her coffin fell, that was already the case and here in the car again. The ghost at the end was Poppy. The insane one Mrs. Dudley told Shirley about. How can this be Abigal ? Abigal is a child. Why can you be angry with Shirley's husband for taking the money? He said why. He took it for Shirley so that she could continue to do her job helping other people in their grief. Without the money, she wouldn't have been able to do this a long time ago, just because she's too proud to take it. To make something good out of the money.

There's nothing clear about the Theo situation. Just because you've only seen her with women before, doesn't mean she couldn't be bi, or that it might not just be an attempt to get back at Shirley for choosing to kick her out, so either of those could easily be most people's obvious conclusion outside of just confusion.

@DeathsjesterKMNP I hate when there's bi-erasure in media, and so I never make the assumption unless the character definitely declares it (and even then the character might not fully understand themselves). Bisexuals could spend their entire lives with only one gender and still be bi. And contrary to what some people seem to think, it's not even made clear from the flashback to Nell's wedding that Theo is lesbian, only that she's at the very least bisexual. So she confirms she's into bridesmaids, or in the context of the conversation women, but that doesn't automatically assume she's not also into men, or non-binary, or whatever. Bisexuals have had to hide who they are as much as gay or lesbian people, so it's still a coming out moment, and we can still celebrate that without making the claim that a rational person would never think her moment with Kevin could have meant anything.

Honestly, I was never that impressed by what the dad had to say to Steve about there never having been a clock repairman or a treehouse, just because I don't think *Steve* would have been that impressed by it. At this point, Steve is already completely convinced that his mother had a mental illness that she passed on to her children, especially him; so telling him that he remembers people and things that never existed is just going to reinforce his belief that he's lost his mind. It may be shocking to *us* that he and Luke didn't have a treehouse, but it wouldn't make any difference to *him*.
