    I have the Eufy Cam 2 set and I love it. The camera overlooking my main entrance is placed outside my house, under a roof, much like yours. I really didn’t fancy taking the ladder out every 2 months (that camera gets A LOT of motion events) for everyone to see how easy it is to take it down. So I got a Solar Panel for that one and it’s been working like a charm since day 1. It’s been almost a year and I’ve never had to take it down to charge it. As I write the battery is at 93% . So I reckon you’ll never have to charge your camera ever again 😊

    Thank you for an excellent review - about to order the S330 with 3 cameras - one question I have is about the wi-fi coverage / connectivity - the area were two of the cameras will be mounted is a coverage blackspot - I will plug in a TP-Link extender to manage it - I assume Eufy is compatible with the TP-Link extender?

    I installed the HB3 and the non solar 4K cams, setup was easy and picture quality is good, however the lack of WiFi “which I missed and assume is due to 4K “ made it limited for my purposes. I purchased yet another HB2 system with 2k cameras. The signal strength on the cameras is better and the ability to connect via WiFi gave me the coverage I needed. From what I read the HB2 was supposed to get an external storage option upgrade that never came. I hope since your 2c pro cameras work on your HB3 mine will too. On their website it said available in 2023 Q1 which I guess is now. Thanks for the review.

    Digging around a little, I came across a statement that wifi functionality is supposed to be coming to the HB3 by the end of Feb via a software update. I assume the hardware was already present in the product, but they decided to ship them before the software was ready ( like backwards compatibility ). It's a very questionable decision to release a product without the software to utilize it's hardware ... but maybe it was something they needed to sort out for security reasons that they knew were going to crop up. In my opinion though .. why release it at all if that's the case. /shrug

    2:53 Sadly the motion sensor is not looking at the movement in the actual camera image but is done via a specific sensor which has a maximum reach of 27feet/8meters from the camera. So any movement beyond that hard line of 27feet/8meters will not trigger a notification/recording. This made the cameras un-usable for me so I returned them within 24 hours from purchase. I do like the idea/concept but that motion sensor set up destroys what could have been a great product.

    I looked at many reviews and yours is he most honest and actually insightful rather than being seemingly a shill for the manufacturer. How is the range from base station to cam? Example 4 sides to 3000 sq ft house. Base station in middle with 4 cams on all sides. Does it work? I read 30 ft max. for best performance. The square root of 3000 is about 47 so that is > 30 feet, not even taking into consideration walls. How many bars does the signal strength meter decrease when going beyond 30 ft? If the range is no good, can I buy a second base and ethernet cable it to the router or a mesh node with a LAN port? Finally it seems there is a 2K version, the S220 which can connect to the HB3 OR one’s router. And the storage is on the cam itself. Have you tested that one? Am thinking it might be a good option if there is a signal issue from the S330 to the HB3. For both the S330 and S220, how does viewing actually work? The smartphone receives and alert, then calls into the HB3 for the S330 for replay? And for the S220, one is connecting to the S220 to retrieve the video? BTW, I come from Arlo Pro cameras with a similar base unit configuration and am looking to replace the Arlo system.

    I fitted a small LED floodlight with PIR alongside cameras, it is human nature to look at a light when it comes on, and you get a good view of the face, and the floodlight glare also hides the camera itself.

    So how is the latency of these cameras? I have spectrum cable modem with Eero pro 5g mesh system. I had Arlo pro 4 and they were horrible. Wouldn’t wish those on my worst enemy. Someone could pull in my driveway and walk in and start a conversation before they would notify me anyone was there. Are these very quick at notifying and pulling up the video? Hi guys, I have a question, please? I've watched several reviews on the S330 system, but no one has addressed this. While the camera is in standby mode, that is without anything activating the cameras. Can I use the app to wake the cameras up to view the zone covered by a specific camera? Or do I have to wait until a camera is activated before I can view the notification?

  • @desupernoodle

    Thank you for the great review. I am new to home security cameras. Do they have to be constantly on, or can they be deactivated as and when I wish? I mean, I don't want cameras to get activated and notify me when movement is detected while we are at home, but upon leaving home I want to switch the system on, preferably via Alexa, so that the system notifies me only when there is no one from the family at home. Is this possible?

  • @ProperHonestTech

    @ProperHonestTech

    Жыл бұрын

    You aren’t able to switch the cameras off on a schedule, but you can set ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ modes, which would then change how the cameras behave. For example, if you’re home, you might not want notifications of movement or for video to be recorded. Depending on your home setup, you can also have things like a camera alarm automatically trigger when you’re away, if motion is detected.

    I would question why local storage needs to be so large, I have been running Eufycam 2 with 16GB homebase for 2 years now, and because easy to check video on your phone I do it every day or so, and delete if necessary and never see more than 1 GB stored, easy to download clips . I fitted a solar panel to the front camera that gets most action and the battery has never dropped below 70% even in winter, despite 120 second video clips. Because of the way all PIR sensors work they pick up things moving at an angle or across sensor very well, things moving straight towards the camera do not get picked up as well. You can get separate stand-alone sensors with two years replaceable battery to link to Eufy cameras ( via Homebase ) to give more PIR coverage and trigger the cameras earlier and more reliably, you can also mount a camera behind a window and use external tsensorr to trigger it ( no PIR sensor aill work through a window ). Homebase can also be fitted with a backup camera under it, to keep it running if main power goes off. Due to local storage Eufy cameras also keep recording if wi-fi goes out, because the wireless link between devices and homebase is Eufy wireless, not wi-fi. I am very happy with my older Eufy stuff.

    Do you "lose" (can no longer access the video for that specific camera) the videos if you hit the synch button with the new home base? The videos become accessible if you re-add the camera(s), but if the camera is stolen, then you lost the footage for good. Of course, you want to install the camera as high as feasible to prevent that, but sometimes that's not possible....

    This HomeBase (the latest, not the HomeBase 2) requires an ethernet connection to operate, no Wifi at this time. The HomeBase then connects wirelessly to the cameras. Eufy have themselves confirmed this. The previous HomeBase (the HB2) could connect to Wifi. They may be getting confused with that.

    Edit - do you mean, how long can the battery be operational at full health before needing replacing? If yes, I've no idea, and with these being a new product, there's no way I'd be able to know that. You'd potentially need to ask Eufy, although as they're modern lithium ion batteries, one would expect several years of use out of them, just like you would with a phone or a tablet.

It is important to make that distinction for me. Is it important to you that your review is accurate and true? Is the 4K camera is the reason for better detection classification ? Why would I ask that ? On behalf of people using older Eufy systems. What about the security server...is it still based in China? Can you still see inside USA homes from Australia..that was not intended because of security glitches.

  • @moialder252
    @moialder252 Жыл бұрын

    I dont know why they still cannot do 30 FPS and give higher bitrate so cars and people can actually be recognizable. The 4K advertisement is marketing. The resolution is 4K but the compression is high, bitrate is low, and frames per second is weak. Especially during night time. If a thief was to consitantly be moving, all the camera shows is ghosting and blur. Clearly the hardware on these is capable so I dont know what the issue is. They already have the hub connected at the house. The company should focus on the camera only communicating directly to send the videos, and have good onboard storage on the camera to keep/buffer the higher quality higher framerate video in the camera as it transfers it to the hub then automatically delete. This is why POE wired cameras are still way superior. Eufy is the closest to bridging that gap, but they still want to do 10-15FPS and low bitrate.

  • @ProperHonestTech

    @ProperHonestTech

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I hear what you're saying. Ultimately I do think they're very good cameras, but as I show in the video, there's no way that the 4K they deliver comes close to the images used in the marketing, which really irritates me.

    @@ProperHonestTech Thanks for a great well-balanced review. I cannot understand why Eufy don't seem to allow owners to run at a higher bitrate. From the "estimated" capacity of the internal 16Gb and the stated number of seconds, this seems to work out to be about 175 kilobytes per second - for 4K video. My original Arlo 720P cameras run at about 80-90 kilobytes per second (and they are not great), and my DJI Osmo Action runs at 13 Megabytes per second at 4K/30, which is a massive 74 times the bitrate (and yes, I am aware that it is at 30fps, not 15fps). This is where Arlo killed their cameras for most users - they progressively dropped the bitrate on their 1080P cameras down to around 70-80kB/s which rendered them pretty useless for security, but they did it to save on server capacity - I don't know what Eufy's excuse is because the files are supposed to be stored locally on a potentially giant hard drive, so they shouldn't really care (as much) how big the file is. Obviously full uncompressed 4K would be too big to stream or realistically view videos online, but compressing the files by 74 times seems extreme - I would happily sacrifice some responsiveness during viewing for improved video quality.

  • @ToadstedCroaks

    @ToadstedCroaks

    Well if you double the framerate you essentially double the power required to render it, or you have to halve the resolution to achieve the same computations. And all of this is being pushed out to another system wirelessly which needs to be able to keep up with it and store it in it's own methods. That's a lot to ask a really small box with minimal ventilation or hardware. Traditional video cameras have always been way beefier to achieve the same thing. You're not getting 4k gaming with a $200 micro PC .. you certainly aren't going to get 4k 60fps streaming with a flashlight. If you could, people would only ever buy streaming sticks ( like an amazon firestick ) for their youtube / twitch projects, and not big bulky high end computers. All that said, they could reasonably offer options like they do gaming consoles / professional cameras, you lower the details to take more continuous pictures in the same timeframe. That way you could choose to just record in 2k / 1080p, but youd get way faster rendering to make those captures smoother.

    @@ToadstedCroaks rather they forget the 4K marketing, and just do a higher bitrate 10880P with higher FPS. Most consumers dont even set these up in a position where it could read license plates from the street. So just the perspective that it at least get is much better

    Purchasing this cctv it promised to deliver uncompromising results. Initially it did. Crystal clear imaging and it seemed a cut above the rest, as ive previously owned numerous systems over the years. However after 2 weeks the cameras failed to record key events. Unfortunately Eufy's customer services was poor at best. I sent several emails with no response so sadly I returned the system for a full refund.

    But all it takes is for someone to steal a camera and you lose all access to the footage from that camera even though its still on the base station? What kind of design is this?? They don't even have to steal the camera if they don't want to either, all they have to do is hold that pair button down on the back of the camera and BAM, all footage from that camera is lost. Has this been fixed?

    The footage was never lost, it was just "hidden" while the camera was decoupled from the base station connection. Once you paired it back up the footage all came back without a problem. Regardless, I've read several statements that a firmware update released some weeks ago to fix that issue for older hardware, and users of the HB3 haven't had any of the footage even disappear when a camera was removed.

    Expecting a 1 year battery life is like thinking your car will only use a certain amount of fuel a year no matter how many miles the car is driven.

    Well, it's safe to say that some people are just not very technologically inclined, and there are nuances to everything that aren't noticeably apparent or upfront when dealing with consumer products. Take wifi signal as an example. When it says it works up to 300 feet away, you might take that at face value, without understanding the marketing behind "up to" or that there's no mention of how walls / doors / reflective surfaces / etc. might interfere with that value. It's not necessarily their fault for believing what's stated .. they just don't know there are unstated factors that go into it. For another example, there's solar power, and people not realizing the intricacies of hours of sunlight, cloud cover, angle of placement, whether you're using your power in the morning, afternoon, or at night, etc.. People get told "You're using 2k kwh of power an hour, and you have a 7k kwh solar system." and you think you have so much extra space for power usage that you can't understand why it's not working right, or why your batteries don't recharge past 40% every day. Some people see the different fan speed options as all using the same amount of power; your car uses the same amount of fuel idling or driving; a bigger sized electric heater means it's producing a bigger amount of heat; water resistant means it can be submerged in water indefinitely; etc. If a company says "this thing will last a whole year on a single charge", most people will believe it uncompromisingly. That's the power of marketing, and why they say it, including those tiny ass asterisks on everything.

    @@ToadstedCroaks The camera to homebase uses Eufy own 'wireless' signal, at different frequency to wi-fi, so that has a longer range than 'proper wi-fi'... ( you really do not want Wi-Fi to have a long range anyway.) Most sellers use 'up to' as a marketing ploy, including those BEV makers, sounds better then 'less than'...( which is always the case with BEV )

    Neighbourhood Alert - Is this a thing yet? Those guys trying your car door handles could get picked up by your camera system and then your camera system could alert other cameras nearby to be ready to record. All of the cameras could use cloud AI to organise and map the path taken by these guys and whatever vehicles they were using which could then be packaged up for the police or local neighbourhood watch group. Individual user cameras are ok but we do need to get neighbourhood grouping off the ground.

    I should imagine data privacy is the biggest hurdle here. Until a camera can say with 100% certainty that the person walking onto my drive at 2 in the morning is an unwelcome intruder, and not me, or my family, or a friend of mine, or anyone else who I may have welcomed to my property, I don't want the other cameras in my neighbourhood being 'alerted' to movement on my driveway, as it's none of their business. Cameras these days still struggle to tell the difference between animals and humans at night, so I think we're a long way off this ever being a reality. Although what you describe, the piecing together of a route from multiple cameras, is something that the police can and should be compiling themselves, when a crime occurs, simply by speaking with anyone who has visible CCTV.

    He was referring to the issue where eufy is storing images from rich notifications on AWS S3 and without any access limitations, and secure them by just by scrambling URLs with the account number and serial number. Not ideal. Apart from that hashes from faces are transferred as metadata with notification. The largest issue was that live stream urls were wide open once you got hold of serial numbers which was used for the live portal. That has been fixed since with webrtc and an access code you have to generate on the app. Eufy definitely got a black eye here, Chinese companies seem to not care that much about security it seems as the big brother in China wants access to all data anyway. I have now removed all eufy device indoors now and may remove outdoors to as the system still has major flaws such as using the same encryption key across all devices
