    I’m not familiar with the idmas app. After doing a bit of searching it looks like the app can support any camera with an RSTP stream so I THINK it should work. Best I can say is order on on Amazon and try it out. If it doesn’t work - return it?

    The solid red light actually just means that the camera is working properly with someone viewing the live stream or recording event according to the camera user’s manual…that makes sense because he had just started viewing the live stream, so the red light doesn’t mean that there is problem with the camera nor wifi

    Good review. But worth noting that it STILL connects to eufy when HomeKit is enabled. So doesn’t feel secure, which I think is the whole point of HomeKit. If one wouldn’t have to set up a eufy connection this would be the best camera to buy bar none.

    It’s a bit of a process, but you can definitely connect this to HomeKit with no connection to Eufy. I’ve gone through this process and can confirm it does work - although 💯 it shouldn’t be this complicated. If you add the camera to the Eufy app, then to HomeKit, then unplug the camera, delete it from the Eufy app, then plug the camera back in. It will no longer be associated with your Eufy account but will retain its relationship with your HomeKit setup. Not idea at app but it does work. I’ve actually picked up a couple extra of these as they are also great for playing around with computer vision considering the buoy in RSTP capabilities.

    I recently set up this cam in HKSV but saw that I don’t have two way talk in HK. Is there a setting that I can turn that back on? Also, with the cam still in the eufy app, does that mean that the benefit of end-end encryption on the HK side is negated by whatever security protocols that Eufy has on their side?

  • @Homekitgeek

    @Homekitgeek

    Hey J Wu - I’m using my Eufy Indoor for some RSTP testing, so I tested this on the Pan/Tilt and I’m assuming it’s the same. Looking at the characteristics that are exposed to Homekit, the microphone is there, but no speaker - so no 2-way audio. This is something that Eufy is going to have to expose for us. Not much we can do here tbh. For the second question - I think it’s a little more nuanced than just negating the benefit of HSV end-to-end encryption. For some people, it will definitely make more sense to only connect it to Homekit and not bother using the app as well. If security of the stream is your #1 priority, than that’s probably a good choice. On the other hand, there are others ( myself included ) that live in multiple ecosystems at the same time. The ability to have the Eufy cameras stream on my Amazon Echo’s or Google Homehubs is something I find really useful, so having it connected to both at the same time (which requires the connection to the Eufy app ) is worth losing the end-2-end HSV encryption piece. All comes down to what you’re looking for and what you’re willing to give up to meet your use-case. Hopefully this helps?

    @@Homekitgeek I think it is more of a negative than you are stating because just removing the App doesn't change the fact that the camera is connected to Eufy's servers. The beauty of HomeKit is local control of everything. You grant the device access to your network but never log it into any third party server so only you can talk to it. That is the dream of HomeKit and this camera falls short on that area. I reached to to them to see if I could disconnect the camera from the network and still talk to it via homekit and the answer was no! I would have purchased more of these but I'll spend the extra money and get a circle which can exist completely within the Homekit bubble.

  • @Homekitgeek

    @Homekitgeek

    3 жыл бұрын

    I hear what you’re saying - but I don’t necessarily see that as a negative as the same function also allows it to exist in Amazon and Google ecosystems in a parallel fashion. After doing some testing on the Pan Tilt camera, you do need to add the camera to the Eufy app to connect it to HomeKit which isn’t ideal, but I was able to unplug the camera, delete the camera from the Eufy app and then plug the camera back in. The trick was unplugging the camera so it didn’t get reset when it was removed from the Eufy app. Hours later still connected to HomeKit. So it IS possible to exist in a HomeKit only scenario, just not straight forward. :)

Will it crop when HomeKit is enabled or only loose resolution? It’s sounds like a bargain compared to the Circle 2.. however it should not be used outside as Circle 2 support.. Best regards Jakob

    i have to say you are the ONLY one so far that i've watched that actually tells me what i will be losing by putting this camera into homekit. so for that i give you a thumbs up. but like the others you haven't covered one huge burning question i have, unless you or anyone else doesn't have an answer. here it is. i bought this camera because its cheap, it has on board storage and doesn't require cloud based paid storage, and it works with homekit. what i want to know is can i add it to homekit so i can create automations, and have all my other homekit devices including other cameras all in one place and NOT use homekit secure video. does homekit secure video to just mean secure cloud recording? or does it mean secure cloud recording and human/pet detection, activity zones and all the things you lose now (or is that a iOS14 thing?). what i want to do is just have the camera feed show in homekit, but have everything else record on the eufy. now that i thought of it, maybe i can just set it up as a RTSP stream and use HOOBS to view the live stream in homekit but not sure if that means its technically added to homekit so disable everything. i will not and don't want to pay for cloud storage including apple. that defeats my whole purpose of buying a local storage capable camera. thanks, sorry this came out long

    So for the first question - the answer is "yes" if you keep the camera in streaming mode, then you're not in HSV and nothing will be recorded to the cloud. For the other part, iOS14 is going to bring back a lot of those features, at least in theory. As I'm sure you're aware, 14 is in beta right now so I'm extremely reluctant to give you an answer on something which, honestly, no one really knows right now. Apple could pull features out at the last minute or wait until sometime in mid 2021 to include those features. On the second part - it sounds like if you have the technical chops to do this, that HOOBS and RTSP streams might be a better way to go. I'm honestly tempted to do this myself as I'd like to play around with the RTSP streams more as well with some computer vision projects I've been working on. Haven't made the decision yet whether I'm just going to use Hoobs or just order another camera for the RTSP projects. At the price point of these cameras.... it's probably worth it to just pick up a second one. :)

    To the best of my knowledge - No. you need to first setup the Eufy camera in their own app before setting it up in HomeKit. This is one of the only Caneras like this. It will hold different connections to your HomeKit hub Fiorino HSV as well as put to the Eufy servers for various things including access from the Eufy app remotely as well as Amazon Alexa and Google compatibility. I don’t disagree that sending your vids to multiple sources might lessen the security you get with HSV, but the question here is whether or not you want the extra features of being able to use other services remotely as well. Wyze is definitely economical, and as long as you like the way they look, probably not a bad choice at all if you're just getting started. I don't have any hands-on with the Wyze3 so can't really give you any more recommendation either way. The Wyze 1 and the Wyze Pan/tilt have both been fairly good in my experience and they are constantly being updated with new firmware so as company, I'd a fan of Wyze's continued commitment to bringing fixes to their existing products. Thanks for your video. I just bought one of these and think it's a good idea to mention some issues I am having with it. (In the interest of helping other buyers) POST UPDATED - 07/07/21 HOMEKIT - (EUFY CAMERA'S WORK DIFFERENTLY - 2C CAMERA'S vs 2K INDOOR) Along with buying one 2K Indoor Camera, I also bought the Eufy 2C CAMERA SET, THEY WORK DIFFERENTLY IN HOMEKIT - mainly in the following two ways: 1) Video can still be stored LOCALLY on the Eufy Base station, while showing up in the Home App as a video feed. 2) They CAN NOT, in my experience so far, use their motion sensors to activate another Homekit device. (I.e. turn a light on when motion is detected - Home app settings.) EUFY 2K INDOOR CAMERA ISSUES So, what are the main issues with this EUFY 2K INDOOR CAM I am experiencing? 1) When linked to Homekit, Homekit seems to only provide the ability to RECORD AND STORE video in APPLE's secure storage option. (Why buy a local storage device, when I can't store to it, and I want to see the feed in Homekit? Force to pay for Apple Secure Storage - NOT SO FOR THE 2C cameras) 2) When connected to Homekit, the home app lets you activate another device when the motion sensor is activated. GREAT IDEA - if it would only allow me to turn the light OFF, without turning the light back on again automatically after its turned off. (A bug when using Siri or turning off from the Home App.) 3) The Geofencing features need some serious work and testing. Despite the app having specific location access on the iPhone, I find it doesn't automatically change between the Home and Away modes. (It may still be in BETA, but this easy bug should have been picked up in testing) Just so thoughts - hope it helps. MY SUGGESTION 1) If you DO have the 2C camera's - buy another one of those instead. 2) If you DON'T have the 2C setup - this 2K Indoor Cam COULD be a good option - as long as you only use the Eufy App (Not Home App), or you want to pay for Apple secure video. Thanks
