[EU4] An In-Depth Guide to Absolutism
Ойындар
In this video I show some strategies for getting absolutism quickly, and discuss how it's changed the game in a broader sense.

When you realize that a cheesy & unrealistic strategy to farm absolutism *actually represents your government manufacturing a crisis so that it can clamp down on liberty in the name of security*

@kite man Yes, indeed he said that. He also made a hypothetical situation in which, if people call for punishment (execution) of someone, go ahead with it, if later it is proved that the person you ordered the execution of was actually innocent, execute the executioner instead of apologizing yourself, essentially, shift the blame.
@ScurvyBoi
3 жыл бұрын
@kite man Well considering how crazy those times were, I wouldn't rule out it being real. Anyway, the governing entities also makes sense, it's part of the "shifting the blame" doctrine, and by separating power, while you become less powerful in a technical sense, you actually become more powerful in a practical sense, since now it's easier to look like the good guy while not actually being the good guy. Those horrible things that happened that benefit you greatly? Oh well I didn't do those things, it was *those* guys, yeah we should probably get rid of them. His ideas did work back in the day. Now though? Well, the concept can still be applied, but the higher level of education and understanding of politics by the general population have made these kinds of political tactics less effective, or rather, their risk has increased, since now it's more likely for people to see past your persona and identify the "scam"
@ScurvyBoi
3 жыл бұрын
@kite man Mmmh I suppose that is true, still a higher level of education does play a factor, as while access to information is probably the main thing that changed from "then" to "now" education is what helps you analyze and understand that information, beyond what the speaker tells you. For example, a newspaper could write something that uses factual information and spins it around for their own political/financial gain, and a more educated person would be able to see past that. Still though, you are right, it's more about access to information than education. And I was aware of congress and the budget, it's sad people don't know such an important fact about one of the most important institutions in the country.

Found out today: colonies that you create with "Expel Minorities" get separatism. I expelled some accepted culture heretics and with +2 tolerance of heretics, instead of being zealots they joined the particularist faction with lots of unrest, reaching 90% right on 1610. They were present across enough of my state land that reducing autonomy in their provinces got me to 41% absolutism along with a few other provinces with autonomy.
Thank you for this video. Felt as though this mechanic needed some solid clarification.
Thank you for this video, I never really gave absolutism the attention I needed to prior to watching this video, instead I just raised autonomy in every province I conquered just so I didn't have to deal with rebels. My gameplay in the age of absolutism and beyond has since been improved drastically, not to mention how all your other videos have done the same for me, especially trade, going as far as to eclipse the people who taught me the game. Thank you and keep up the excellent videos mate!
That song is absolutely amazing! thank you for putting it in this video! i immediately checked the description for it and have been listening to it on SoundCloud / KZread :D
Very thorough explanation - crazy to think that it's beneficial to bring on the disaster... I honestly wouldn't have ever done it. Very interesting stuff!
Great to see a new vid from you. Did my three mountains after watching your vids. They are really informative and well made, so keep it up
Another important thing to note is that now, with more recent updates and DLC, the mission "Conquer new states" grants -33% harsh treatment cost for 25 years. It is a good idea to save this mission until the age of absolutism. Next, there's the age bonus "harsher treatment" you should rush for to fulfill age bonuses so you can get it sooner. Lastly, with the "Third Rome" DLC, Orthodox countries get -33% harsh treatment cost with the Icon of Eleusa. These 3 bonuses makes what used to be 200 mil power less than 50, and the first 2 alone make most harsh treatment costs so small that you can do it in your sleep. Not only does this mean you no longer have to worry about rebels in your far-flung provinces in Asia and Africa, but you can get so much absolutism it'll be coming out of your ears. If you do it right, it makes the "Court and Country" event null and void.
I keep on rewatching your guides because you are an excellent teacher.
You can spawn particularists/nobles etc. from estated provinces, by putting their loyalty below 40 and then take away the assigned estate from the province, causing a 100% chance for the right rebels to spawn, with the huge benefit of not having to lower your general unrest.
Love these in depth guides... Very informative and helpful. Thank you!!

@danildmitriev5884
6 жыл бұрын
Probably not. What you could have experienced is that your cap on absolutism got lowered because of either of the following: 1) having a government type without bonuses to absolutism (e.g. Russian Principality, Republic, Constitutional Monarchy); 2) not having a Golden Era enacted at the moment (or having it finished); 3) not being of an Empire rank; 3) not having legitimacy in your country (in case your government form doesn't have it at all); 4) not being a Great Power (unlikely, but worth listing). I bet that the first two-three reasons will be able to fully explain your situation, since you need everything to be very carefully ligned up to get high absolutism max. Reman had his cap at 120 in the video, in part, due to still being in a Golden Era and having Despotic Monarchy as his government form.
I swear I just skimmed over the name of this video at first and read: "An In-Depth guide to autism."

I never even thought about using the court disaster until this video thanks for making it, used it on stream as Italy, Initially Naples, went great!
Thanks for this video. I just used these strategies in my first world conquest campaign and it went off without a hitch. ...well, small hitch. I didn't realize that autonomy couldn't be lowered while at war. Accepted the particularists demand while in a 10+ year quagmire of a league war and India coalition war. Thought that maybe Paradox edited out that trick. Glad that wasn't the case. It is 1630 and I have 70% absolutism. I think I might actually pull this one off. Thanks for your insight and keep up with the great videos.
Another great video! I look forward to using this in the next mp I'm in!!!
Reman - thanks again for this video - your clear explanations with examples makes a video I search for whenever I see the Absolutism pop-uip....like....check with Reman just one more time to make sure I don't screw up this ironman game.
Eye opening video, I've ignored absolutism so far. Good job!
Thank you for the strategy! I did it before the age began and got to 80 absolutism right after. The disaster progress finished in two years and even with the -20 from the disaster my max and actual absolutism capped at 80 in 1615. Now I will wait for the 10 years to pass and then I can enjoy the +20 max abs as you described. I am playing as Ottomans in ironman mode and I had only one shot to get this done. I'm very happy to get it almost perfect.
"Absolutely" fantastic guide. 75 absolutism in 1629 with Scotland, just wrecking the continent and preparing to move on the Ottomans. Looking forward to more Reman guides

Fortunately, for republics, there is a way around -20 to -40 Max Absolutism (-30 for me as the Ambrosian Republic). The Dharma DLC allows you to have a series of reforms to your government. Including "Consolidation of Power" (+10), and "Strengthen Executive Powers" (+25). So even if you're the worst republic for Absolutism, the merchant republic with -40 max absolutism, you can still bring it down to a mere -5 if your government is fully reformed.
Your videos are great! :D Do you think you'll ever do some more?
Aaaand welcome to new mechanic of estate and privileges that reduce absolutism

Hah same, man. 40 absolutism as Norway in 1645 feels gimped now..
Really love your in depth content. Are you going to do more in the future?
I'd really appreciate an in-depth look at combat. A lot of people instantly dismiss any questions I have and I have issues occassionally with following what happened, why I won and lost, and effective use of units in a stack.
I would love to see you do a full, commented lets play in EU IV or HOI.
A little late but I’m glad you’re not dead 😁
Was planning to do a japan run next, which ideas did you take in your run? Dont play in japan often so Im open to new things
I used the particularist tactic in my France to Prussia campaign a while back, I basically went from 0 to 140 absolutism in a year. Full annexed Ming in one war once I capped my absolutism.
CAN YOU PLEASE REUPLOAD THE PROTESTANT VIDEO!!!!!
Update: Accepting rebel demands now lowers absolutism by 10, so make sure you'll actually get more than that for lowering autonomy in the affected provinces. Suffices to say they adequately addressed the method, although for really large empires it probably still works.
Reman, please come back and explain how this and the estates work now

Hey, thanks for this video, Reman. May I suggest your next videos? What are the best age powers and use of vassals/marches/colonial nations (tariffs!) Or now that we have professionalism, what is the best army?
I'm a simple man. I see Reman's video, I stop whatever I'm doing at that moment and soak in.

YEEES
I'm not playing EU4 anymore but I always have to give them likes to Reman.
Another way of getting particularist rebels (I.E the ones you want) is to piss of the burghers as they spawn particularists when you revoke land from them, and you can agree to their demands, so no real reason to tank actual unrest, (although you will need +1 anyway) But that can be achieved more temporarily, by having overextension that you either wont core, or by staying in a war where you can re-aquire OE at your Leisure.
You are a genius
So if I have this right, the best strategy is to start as a republic if you can to gain the enormous mana. When this age begins, then give a ton of land to nobles so they take over, revoke the land causing them to rise as rebels and then boosting stability to end the coup instantly, putting a despotic monarchy in charge. Then submit to their demands which gives local autonomy and negative legitimacy. Finally, just lower autonomy and strengthen government. Is that correct?

I know it might not be a long video to make, but could you explain the burgundian inheritance and how it triggers. Like explain the best strategy on making it pop in most of your castile or HRE runs. I am having a lot of trouble trying to force it to trigger with declaring the humiliate rival war and that stuff as castile.
thx for this i did not understand this new ferret
You and BudgetMonk should do a multiplayer collab
Hey man! What was your strategy for Japan? I find myself not knowing what Idea groups to go for, and what my plans for expansion should be
I would start Court and Country while spending my admin on Humanist or Innovative ideas, the interruption it gives to blobbing will not waste monarch points then.
But the modifier for reduced autonomy is longer than the modifier for recent uprisings!
@transparentcd
6 жыл бұрын
Laughoutloud Studios then deal with the rebels, you would probably have your unrest back to normal by then and you shouldn t have a problem in your home provinces
So the particularist trick is dead now, right? Recent uprising modifier seems to disappear now after decreasing the autonomy...
Can you do a video on army/navy composition please?
hey, how exactly do i have to do this court and country event? i mean, i stardet it, there was few events i which i was always picking easier ways, so i dont have to fight rebels, but my absolutism was always above 60. i had icon in "coreing" menu from c&c event, then suddenly it was gone, and i was left with max absolutism 80 with modifier -10. what happend? should i be all this time (10 years) in some war?
Thanks for the great guide and great videos Reman! Quick question: should you have Religious or Humanist Ideas fully unlocked? I think using this guide means holding off on Humanist specially coz you won't get any rebellions.
@AB-rv2lj
3 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend humanist if you're new to the game
Hmmm, if you just need Noble/Particularist rebels, you don't have to lose a ton of stability, you can just give an estate some land, make it disloyal and recall the land from it. Particularists spawn from Burghers (as you mentioned).
when i do this and accept the rebel demands I instantly get a -50 max absolutism because of too low crownland, my crownland instantly goes to almost 0 when I do this...
Finally!!! Our Lord and Saviour have returned ! I hope he does more videos.
