Paradox should hire Reman to do a series of tutorial videos for new players. His videos are always so clear, concise, well produced, and informative. Even as an experienced player with some of the harder achievements done, I always take something new away from a Reman video.

Something of note for Aq Qoyunlu, their heir (Hasan) is scripted to be an amazing general, getting something like 4-5 shock, among other things. Be sure to hit them before they decide to make their heir a general (as they seem to not do that until he is a ruler, at least on normal difficulty). He can be pretty punishing and a pain to deal with, gl.

He was a great commander, he won against Ottomans at malatya battle, against Mehmet the Conquerer. But after this war Ottomans came with guns so they had no chance.

Uzun Hasan(Hasan the tall) was an amazing commander. He is one of the few commanders who could defeat the ottomans(until ottos bringed big guns). He is also the grandfather of Shah Ismail.

Oh god, the old mission system..

Achievement aside, that sexy sky blue is definitely worth the effort.

you should do an update video now that the Mamluks will *never* ally you at the start of the game.

The Belgian Khan almost same with my game yesterday :( they rather eat atrition sieging arid highland fort in morocco than stick to my army :( after we peaced Morocco they suddenly went low because no Manpower. Ottoman kicked our sorry ass after Mamluk gone

Thanks for this! I've been eyeing up Karaman for a play through for a while and having this video to help me along with the new achievement being available is the perfect chance. I just got Arabian Coffee starting as Mamluks and was going to go on and unite Islam, but I think I might just do it with Karaman and get A Heros Welcome along the way! I just went for this achievement earlier, but more or less intentionally fucked myself and got full annexed before 1460. Damn glad to have some guidelines I can go for next attempt. Thanks for the perfectly timed video, Reman!

Improve relations with them over time. Basic strategy makes sense, use allies to distract and eventually overpower the ottomans.

When I played as Byzantium, the Ottomans just collapsed after finally beating them in the first war, then got replaced by the Mamluks while I was fighting Venice. They basically became the new Ottomans.

to say the Ottomans are not a pushover is an understatement. I just tried the first strategy and the Ottomans alone had to fight off Hungary, Serbia, Albania, Wallachia, Byzantium, Mamluks and Karaman at the same time. We were all at military tech 4. Ottomans were outnumberd 5:1. They still won easily. I tried it four more times with this perfect diplomacy. Same result every time. Ottomans win without even trying. I really thought I was getting the hang of this game since in my last game I got Komnemnoi Empire and it was a cakewalk. Now I'm not so sure.

I mean, I kept restarting and trying whenever I get a diplo rep advisor. I did finally manage it on the 6th try. During the war, Venice attacked the Ottomans and called in Austria. I also managed to get Skanderbeg to attach to my stack the entire war. I think if it wasn't for the fact that the Mamluks keep imploding into multiple rebellions in Timurid fashion, it would be much easier. It's kind of hard to beat the Ottomans when the Mamluks and Hungarians spend all their time chasing rebel stacks in Egypt.

Because battles are total casino. The 1-10 rolls are totally bullshit and should be no more than 5. It is enough for ottos to roll once for a high roll and nothing will save you

I finaly menaged to beat Ottomans with the second method. It was much easier for me. They attacked Albania whitch was guaranteed by Venice and allied with Hungary. I broke truce and called in Mamluks.

After 6 attempts with the first strategy, that actually sounds easier. Albania seems really good at diplomacy now.

If you don't mind waiting approximately 150 years to complete the achievement, on the current patch it is far easier to ally ottomans and conquer mashriq, persia and egypt to build up your strength and then turn on the ottomans. It's how i'm doing it rn, and my only problem now is waiting out the truces to murder ottos.

Hey Reman, loving you videos, just a suggestion. Can you make interesting strategys for countries, like Caddo and Austria instead of achievements? Those were fun to watch and try out.

mamluks NEVER starts out as friendly to me and they ALWAYS have too many diplomatic relations, so I can never ally them. really fucks me over on this achievement

Any idea for an opening strategy now that the Mamluks never start friendly on 1.24? I just restarted my game until Mehmed was an administrator and didn't desire my land, allied the Ottomans and used them to feed myself to 1500 development by 1600, before turning on them and crushing them with Austria-Hungary and Russia. This strat is LAME and I hated doing it that way, but I can't find a decent way to take down the Ottomans earlier on

This took me several attempts to get the start right and then in the game I pulled it off it was basically handed to me. For their first war the Ottomans chose Albania only in addition to Venice's trade league they had also somehow got an alliance with Austria, by the time I jumped in with the Mamluks it was pretty much all over for them and after those wars it became a game of who can gobble up the most Ottoman land among the local powers. In the end the only real downside was that the Ottomans never took Constantinople so I missed out on about 11 development.

They ruined this in 1.24 bc mamluks never start friendly anymore

Anyone has some strat for byzantium? Previous patch it was only possible through the blockade cheese strat but considering that in all three of my playthroughs, ottomans were at war with venice (and vassals), albania, and serbia makes me want to believe it may be possible to take them head on

I kinda have been trying to do this achievement, and I’ve been able to beat the ottomans with just the mamaluks about 3 times out of the ten games, mainly because I just never thought to truce break, or they eat up to many minors and get allies, but I legit never thought to get hungry or Serbia as allies, so tomorrow I’ll probably have a hugely more enjoyable time, thanks mate Also, what do you think about making a guide to “Back in control” buy without any cheesing into Manchu to get banners, I’ve been able to beat Ming and form yuan but I was an actual idiot and formed it to early so I lost my horde units and got the -50% extra damage, but thank again man, love the work

I think he means historically. Rum never had Constantinople so you shouldn't need it to reform the country

rum is arabic for roman so its a sort of arabic-roman sultanate and constantinople was the eastern roman empire capital

so on the current patch (1.25) I'm finding it to be impossible to ally the mamluks. They get an additional vassel which give the -20 too many relations penalty. I'm playing without cradle of civilization I don't think that makes a difference thought. any tips?

I'm playing as Mamluks for some achievements. Can I form Egypt or Arabia and later form Rûm by culture shifting? Can't remember if they imposed restrictions on this (other than not being able to change _back_ ). I also plan to do Kushite restoration and maybe even the Coptic one if I can be bothered, in the same go.

Save game corrupted in year 1730 or so. Yay.. You can form Arabia after forming Egypt. Never got to do Kushite Restoration nor sultanate of Rûm.

if you are not playing with version 1.23, mamluks wont start friendly you can either go back to 1.23 or improve reletions, get diplo-rep and send them gifts (you must marry them first, only works if mamluks dont get more alliences)

The ally mamluks and truce break don't work for me. He the mamluk did not start friendly and started to many allies.

Hey reman, this is one of my favorite game to play. Unfortunately, the late and mid game are starting to seem more tedious than enjoyable, to you have any tips on how to beat the boredom.

I myself find only the army professionalism worth the DLC. It makes a nation that might not have the best national military ideas that much more fun to play because of your standing armies, the buffs are quite good. This and the merchant perks make the DLC worth it, you can however just wait till a sale. The DLC doesn't contain real vital stuff, but it's just more fun to me.

My problem with army prof. is (and correct me if I'm wrong) that in the end it's just buffs that all nations can get. Assuming all ai nations drilled at a similar pace to you wouldn't all armies just be of equal strength, and we'd be back to ideas making up the difference? It seems to me like it's just busywork that doens't actually add any flavour to the different nations. The only thing from the patch I was really kinda hopeful for was the new government types, but from watching different youtubers I still have no idea how they actually influence the game.

The thing with drilling armys is that you can abuse it, if you see a nation youd like to attack and it has armies drilling just place your troops near, declare war and stack wipe them because they dont have morale. EDIT: oh and professionalism is always good at high values.

Cory in the closet I did it like a week ago, took me till 1800, but I had the Mamluks as allies since the beggining, and I picked up Russia later down the line. Really fun campaign!

btw nerd city just posted a video about the metadata youtube uses to flag videos as inappropriate for advertisers, so you can click 'view source' on your reformation video, and search for 'excluded_ads' then look at the numbers to see why it was flagged. (example 102 (swears, 104 sexual, etc)

build alot of horses declare war on them, fight on your terrain, kill 20k chinese to 4k cavalry if they are down siege provinces, take them, form Qing get the achievement, quit delete save file because you rerolled the game 20 times or savescummed through that entire mess of a game and have to quit eu4 for atleast a day well thats how i have done it, AND JESUS IT WAS BLOODY

I got this achievement the other day by simply vassalizing Byzantium before ottomans declared war on them, after that u just have to wait until they screw up somewhere and attack.

This doesnt work now. Mamlukes can't be allied before 1450. And by this time Ottomans usually allies with Tunis. Tried to do both allying (serbia always rival wallachia and albania) and waiting or truce break attack with mamlukes. With multiple restarts to no use. Problem is even with a diplo adviser and a diplo mission mamlukes cant be allied before 50

Actually didn't know they were nerfed. I just assumed Mamluks being buffed was enough for my old strategy of power spike denial just made it more effective.

Go into diplomacy view and there should be a button on top of their trust meter - diplomatic feedback with a guy and chat bubbles. Click on the faction you are allied to, then on that guy and everything red will be what he wants to conquer. The second, if you are talking how to give land occupation to someone - you need a dlc for that as I remember

Thanks for the information! Not sure why that isn't in the diplo-sight or under map modes. In the video it sounded like he was giving over the conquered status not annexed lands, not sure how that works. In general the peace treaty(if the land is preset for the country) and vassal interaction seem to be the only way to give away land, that I know of.

Then most likely you lack the missing dlc, I think either common sense or mare nostrum adds that you can transfer occupied land. If you are talking about an actual owned land then yes - you can give it to your vassals or try selling it in diplomacy to someone else if they want it

WTF at what time ever did the sulternat of rum had Constantinople

I did this achievement easily with just the mamluks and AQ and only about 5 months in. I loaded the game with the ottomans hostile to me, then sent an insult and waited for them to warn me. I had already allied AQ and he mamluks so I waited for them to attack someone and when they attacked serbia I attacked dulkadir and sped my army up to karasi/biga so i could take it and use my ships + mamulks ships to block their army on the other side.

It isn't 'The Sultanate of Rum', like a pirate's favourite alcoholic beverage. It's pronounced 'Roum'. The word comes from the former presence Byzantine (or 'Rouman') Empire in the area.

Ottomans are always warning me and i cant declare war against Dulkadir. Beside that they are always gets strong allies like France Aragon Tunis etc. Im so unlucky i guess.

Rimworld soundtrack? Either that or its from a mod I've heard
