7:34 you can excomunicate Napes without any problems, just insult them at the beginning of the game and save one rival slot to use when they are independent. If you excomunicate them they will have trouble finding allies

Firenze is the best province to put your level III trade center in because it’s inland so it’ll give you a manpower bonus instead of the sailor bonus of a coastal city. Also it’s in a 5 province state so it’ll give you an extra building slot in each province in the state for 5 extra building slots.

You absolutely can vassalize Naples in the war post-event. You get a Subjugation CB which gives you Vassalize as a maximum warscore cost of 90.

What he meant by "you can't subjugate naples" is that it's much harder to control Naples as a vassal rather than conquering them and taking a few provinces at a time is much better AE wise than vassalizing all of it in one war

I love taking Esiponage Ideas as the papal states. You can get AE so low it is effectively 0, you get so much siege ability from the combo with Divine Ideas that you never really lose siege races, and even more advisor discounts can make level 5 advisors viable very early on. Not sure if it would ever be the 'best' idea set to pick, but it is so helpful for taking out Italy the HRE when you can get tons of favors and easier vassals early on.

My longest campaign ever was with the Papal State. It was a coop with my brother, who played as Croatia. Then he formed Jerusalem, then moved his capital to Constantinople. Not only was it a very thematic crusader campaign, but we basically (unintentionally) recreated the Eastern and Western Roman Empire. And I also dismantled the HRE after the protestant league won. Good stuff, my favourtie campaign.

I've conquered entire iberia, britain, france and push ottoman to cairo just to learn that papal state can't form roman empire. Pain

2:12 unless the renaissance spawns in rome which has happened for me... although as far as I remember only once 10:17 I prefer the admin one tbh; I tend to be hurting for admin points the most with all the dang coring you have to do in the game; though I agree tradition from battles is probably a better secondary effect 11:27 I do also like the mission on the high seas for the naval force limit and capture chance; though I would change that out later in the campaign to probably the commercial mission 12:46 that's one thing I'd never do if I spawned the institution; let the other catholics struggle to get the institutions, or buy it from me; no freebies 16:01 great shout; I love releasing dalmatia; it's more or less my favorite vassal in the area since I usually don't care enough about the land to take it for myself; they make a decent march even

I dont think guides for really hard achievements that almost no one will try to do will be better (for his channel, of course) than making guides of the most played countries in the game.

Papal runs are just fun. I started one recently but once the ottomans and tunis took italian provinces I just gave up and started a venetian run. Maybe i should retry one with the help from this guide!

You can open with a no-CB on Byzantium to block the Ottomans early on. I’m playing Papal States now, and every time I attack the Ottoman, France intervenes with their 100K troops :)

man I could have used this guide a couple weeks ago when I went for the kingdom of god achievement, got it but it took me so long because of AE mismanagement

It's almost always a good idea to vassalize provence if you fight them while aragon has the naples PU - either feed them corsica or dev over 100 to get them cores on all of naples. they will be slightly disloyal but you can annex all of naples for less than 20 AE in 1 war once they get independent. you can also do it later when castile gets the PU but it's not as easy. i use this in almost all my runs near italy - savoy, france, austria, etc. you can even do it as castile instead of PU'ing naples for faster integration

The subjugation CB does is kind of like the Enforce Union CB in that the war score cost for subjugation/union is fixed. You CAN subjugate Naples with the CB, they are not too big.

Note: Farnce tends to break their alliance with provence day one in the new patch, so there shouldnt be a problem attcking provence

Red hawk uploads: Me: I'll probably keep reposting this comment until you do a Germiyan video because i have no idea of you've seen it or not and i hope it helps: For Germiyan in releasables you should do nothing and improve realtions with Mamuluks and hope they will support your independence, they didn't want to in my first run, but in second they did, probably because they were bordering the Ottomans. If you royal marry the ottomans go restart. Once you get Mamuluks to support your independence you should either wait for them to fight someone in the balkans or declare immediately because they will placate your rulers to get you under 50 liberty desire. You may want to make a backup save for war just so you don't have to do a full restart if Mamuluk ai trolls you, also if Ottomans ally Tunis you should probably restart or go all in with mercs to try to hold out until Mamuluks deal with Tunis(although you'll probably go bankrupt this way). Once you win the war you should take Gelibolu, Constantinople, whatever you can in north Anatolia and war reparations and stay as far away from Mamuluks as long possible because you are still not strong enough to fight them and you won't need any allies because you'll still be surrounded by the Ottomans. After that you'll probably fight theodoro, crimea, georgia or circassia depending on their allies and then probably even more weakened Ottomans if Austria got Hungary and declared on them, otherwise you wait until Mamuluks declares on the Ottomans and if the Ottomans declare on you then mercs and debt it is, after that second war you should start looking for allies to prevent Mamuluks and Austria from declaring on you and the rest is up to you. Papal states is highly underrated. I did my own playthrough and I managed to get 600 ducats per month, full maintenance with 20+ forts & 250k soldiers. Due to getting innovative as first idea, stacking advisor % + with papal controller and managing to have a level 5 advisor cost 1-2 ducats per month. Which in return gives me hundreds of left over mana points to dev up every single providence in italy to a minimum of 20 dev. Earning 200-400 ducats from trade alone by 1600

Please do a guide for prussia, poland, Manchu, Bohemia and timurids

Papal runs are some of the most fun in the game. AE? What's AE? It's just a number and not even a big one for the Pope!

Hawk, when you get to the Pope in A to Z, do a challenge to refer Wojtyła Disco Dance song: convert Papal State, with Rome still as the capital to polish culture

I feel like there should be way more diplomats, traders and missionaries in EU4. It's not like medieval countries only had 2-3 of each. And the provinces not developing automatically if you don't use the precious adm/dip/mil points. Also it makes sense that universities are hard to build, but churches and workshops were everywhere back then, and shouldn't be so expensive. The AE is kind of clunky too. If country A hates country B, and country C annexes country B, then A shouldn't mind it at all if it wasn't planning on taking B for itself. And losing some big cities like London for example falling to Scotland - its ally France shouldn't be affected at all by that. Also there are many historical conquests where many countries were taken by one country, or one country took lots of territory, and it didn't create big coalitions or that one country was able to get some tactical edge that nullified the technological edge of their opponent, like the Mongols, Seljuks, Ottomans, or Francia way earlier.

7:23 naples is NOT too big to vassalize, they are 90% war score. Paradox isn't THAT stupid. It's only quite a lot of AE, but as with vassalization, should be less than conquering outright.
