As a Dutch citizen, I would urge the Dutch government to completely ignore the EU in this case. We are the best kids in the class, we pay the most to the EU per capita. It's time to say to the EU: "It's all well and good, but on this one, you can fuck right off."

And it's that kind of fairy tale fear mongering that will bring you trumpism. Muslims were a big minority in Lebanon (nearly 50%), and they are now a small majority, so it's not as big a swing as you imply it is. And so they have been for decades and decades. Fear breeds hatred. Hatred breeds war. America still IS a christian country, and yet they have MAGA and their christo-fascism. Extremism is not a muslim prerogative.

@@codeblue9004 My brain is working just fine. That's why I know it takes time, but I don't want to wait until you and I are well dead and gone before The Netherlands have found a way to prosper beyond our current level after it left the EU. You seem to forget we are actually bordering on other EU member states, so 'closing' our borders means traffic jams leaving the country. Traffic jams entering the country. Extra paperwork for businesses to be able to either leave or enter the country with bought or sold products. Rising costs of living to make up for the financial losses that will cause. Businesses that will not be able to stay afloat because of that. The list goes on and on, and I don't have to imagine what will happen, I just have to look to the UK. And then there's the extra millions upon million upon millions upon millions it will cost to go back to the guilder, and that's just the physical aspect of minting new coins, designing and printing new bills, getting them into circulation and getting the Euro out of said circulation. Although the smart people will hold on to the cash they have, because it is useful for people who DON'T spend all their vacations in Scheveningen. It may save a little on conversion charges. As I said, look at the UK. Then look at the USA. With trump they also went the 'me me me me me' route, and subsequently tanked the economy. It was in decline BEFORE Covid hit them. Biden took them back on the world stage, looking outward, and they have one of the best economies worldwide now. In the mid-eighties Sting released a song "History Will Teach Us Nothing", listen to it, it's a nice song. The lyrics will go over your head, but at least you have some nice music to listen to.

Is has never not happened. In the Netherlands this has always happened. But before someone can be send back we need to check if the person is illegal. There are lots of Eurosceptic anti immigration candidates running for Euro elections here in Ireland. The European parliament is could get very interesting in the near future.

Uncontrolled migration and asylum have proven devastating to many nations around the world. The same is true about the lack of consequences for nations that start wars of aggression and invade their neighbors. And for individuals that hold multiple citizenships or residence and engage in violence or crime in their host countries. A serious reset is needed for how these things are handled and laws that regulate them. Not only in the Netherlands or the EU but around the world.

The EU has a lot to answer to as our present government for defying the uk peoples referendum to leave the EU. Tony Blair has also made a huge contribution to the uk's downfall & going down the pan

Wise up yourself. Look at how the constitution of this country was so damaged by Blair. A huge amount of the problems that followed is because of what he did.
