Etta James made many appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival across her long and distinguished career from her first concert in 1975 through to her last in 2008.
This video focuses on the concert from 1975. It features many of her best loved tracks and songs that she is particularly associated with. Etta James was one of the most respected performers of her generation. In a career stretching over 60 years she was inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame and the Blues Hall Of Fame, won 3 Grammys and received many more nominations and was named Female Blues Artist Of The Year on no less than 14 occasions.
Etta James sadly passed away after a long illness in January 2012 and this video is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest female vocalists of the 20th century.

Holy fuck she felt that. WE felt that. Woman don't need a microphone to make us feel that either. Such a phenomenal voice.

@Eurshanie you got it right, that was my thoughts. Just visualize being in that audience wow. She was such a powerful soul and and there's this naturalness in her not only in her voice and presentations but in most of her performances she was barefooted. Tell mama was one of my favorites jumping, dancing, barefooted. What a gift, may she rest, forever she will be missed.

Not even a mic at times, my word.
The first time I ever cried in front of my boyfriend we were sitting on my couch, with twinkle lights on, and just letting my KZread music videos play through (lots of old soul/blues). This song came on and I was just overwhelmed with Etta’s enormous talent and passion- I just started crying. Just like I’m crying now. We’re so blessed to have music in our lives

Nobody tells a story like Etta did, she’s had so much conviction in her voice she commanded her audience. God given talent !
When Etta bends those notes, she takes you to church. She had more soul than anyone on the planet today.
Something told me it was over When I saw you and her talkin' Something deep down in my soul said, 'Cry, girl' When I saw you and that girl walkin' around Whoo, I would rather, I would rather go blind, boy Then to see you walk away from me, child, no Whoo, so you see, I love you so much That I don't wanna watch you leave me, baby Most of all, I just don't, I just don't wanna be free, no Whoo, whoo, I was just, I was just, I was just Sittin here thinkin', of your kiss and your warm embrace, yeah When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips now, baby Revealed the tears that was on my face, yeah Whoo and baby, baby, I'd rather, I'd rather be blind, boy Then to see you walk away, see you walk away from me, yeah Whoo, baby, baby, baby, I'd rather be blind...

I love the fact that Etta isn’t bothered whether the mike’s in front of her mouth! She knows the power that her voice has & the emotion of an older woman. Thank you for posting this, it shows real raw talent, not the watered down versions of so many wannabes today!

Some singers have songs that can be covered by other artist and actually cover will be better than original. This is not the case and will never be.
I can never figure out how some people just so naturally brilliant...

Beautiful and real....love her, now one have ever came close to her performanse 🥰

yeah absolutely I’ve been married for 32years I was 24 and she was 20. She got cancer in 2020 I was totally lost without her. She took a major hit the treatment was horrible for her. I could do nothing to change any thing so I felt helpless I miss her everyday. Mothers are the glue that holds everyone together..seeing this makes me miss her even more I come to this page all the time just to have that nostalgia
That woman owns the stage, rightfully so.

2021 JUNE THE 1ST ,STILL HERE LISTENING , SUCH GOOD SOUNDS OFF, MAY NEVER HEAR THIS AGAIN BUT I KNOW THE FIRST TIME WAS THE BEST TIME. WILL NEVER MEET A VOICE LIKE HERS, I RATHER GO BLIND .
What a voice! Sole perfection... and the band tiptoeing her ups and downs, and reacting just in time when asked... and that snare hit... a masterpiece in full grandiosity pretending to be minimalistic.

There are various genres of music, but blues is what contemporary music would not exist without today. Blues is like a good pair of shoes that you need to think about setting out on any journey.

This is why it's called soul
I am Italian and I don't understand the English language. But I understand this girl's whole soul through her voice, even if I don't understand what she says. When you have a beautiful voice but you let your soul sing with you, everything becomes clear and understandable.
This truly is a timeless song. The emotive lyrics and Etta's passionate delivery, vividly portraying the pain of lost love....
We will never ever get another Etta James. Perfection.
When I heard Etta sing this. I knew I found a new planet.
You should be up here, makes me cry deep rivers, what a classic,Rod Stewart cover hits the nail as well, lvcx
etta just has it all ....soul ,presence and she makes it all look effortless a truly wonderful performer. she gets in to my heart and soul every time .
