    This video made me think of an old boss of mine, who to cover up the lack of anything useful or actionable to say would just talk forever in circles without actually saying anything, and while she never clarified anything just to make it stop you would agree thank her for her help and run away. This video and their “clarifications” are exactly that.

    Thanks for the video. I sell handmade stationery in my shop and to be honest: It always bothers me a little bit when others write in their description about their handmade stuff when it's not handmade at all. Especially when it's just POD and they never get to touch and pack the product.

    This is all smoke and mirrors imo. The policy change I want to see is the one where they ACTUALLY VET all new shops. This would send a message that’s it’s not so easy to game the system over and over and over. Is it time for Josh to hit the road? 🤔 It’s almost as if Etsy wants the system to be gamed. 😉 They dug a hole they can’t get out of.

    Same. My hand screened and designed tees in our shop is labeled as ‘Designed by’ but meets the Handmade description. So we will be lumped with POD. It even gives an examples of both situations under the different categories. And Etsy auto categorized it that way so I can’t even correct.

    Great move by Etsy to formally restructure (or maybe reword) its core principles. You are right that it does not really change much for sellers. Yes, a few listing clarifications for sourced products and AI. But by doing this Etsy sent another great message to buyers that it is a place to find unique, handmade gifts. Love that they are walking their walk. And I love Josh's "race to the bottom" quote. So true. Temu and Shien can keep racing with the crap they sell, and Amazon and Alibaba are too big to give up the revenue from selling crap as well. Thrilled that Etsy is setting itself apart.

    It's more that this channel is followed by a lot of people who have sold on Etsy for a long time and who have heard this kind of message a LOT of times before. And each time it ends up being smoke being blown up our butts to distract us from something else that's going on. So I approach this kind of announcement with wizened resignation and a healthy amount of suspicion. As it turns out, this new categorization opens the door to a lot of commercially-produced resold merchandise, so it's not the way they presented it to begin with! As usual, unfortunately.

    Sorry for my bad English, but, talking about the handmade statement, I think claiming that etsy is about handmade and in the same time pushing the mass product falsely handmade items and with fake reduced prices in the top of the search, this gives a bad idea of what handmade means, there is lot of contradiction between the claims and the the facts, as a handmade shop seller I can telle it's a struggle to keep the motivation

I have a question about one the listings you used in this video, your butterflies at the 3:06 mark: On the right side of this listing there's a section labeled Highlights. Listed under Highlights is 1) Made by ACakeToRemember, 2) Ships from a small business in Virginia, 3) Materials... QUESTION: Where does the second entry originate (Ships from a small business in Virginia)? Is this something you add or is the information generated by Etsy? I would love for my listings to say "Ships from a small business in Maryland" but I have no idea how to accomplish this. Can you please help me? Has anyone tried to write to the members of Etsy's Board of Directors explaining the problems sellers are having? The company CEO has to report to the board, and the board members are essentially his boss. Maybe if they understand, from all the seller's perspectives, why sales are dropping, they might push for better policies. Just wondering if there's ever been a seller movement like that before...

    Etsy should use AI to find Etsy shops with photographs for own-made items where the identical photograph is to be found on Aliexpress? I was looking for a handmade wooden item and discovered the same item in many Etsy shops with the same description photograph, and there was the identical photograph in Aliexpress from the manufacturer's listing. Strange that the shops' descriptions often said 'made by us'. But I reported the shops with that wooden article and by two days later they had disappeared.

    They already do that, and the problem with that is alibaba sellers steal the photos from Etsy sellers then send you something different. A lot of Etsy sellers have had their genuine handmade listings removed by Etsy recently because their photos have been stolen.

    It is the same with my hand knit baby hats, the personalized ones are "designed by"- basically in the same category as POD, and I hand knit them and hand embroider babies' names on the hats myself... I talked to an agent on the chat who said it is in the testing stage and he would put a note about that blahblah, ; interestingly, completely by accident I added a lot of personalized listings earlier today AND they all have "made by" as category, any personalized ones before today have "designed by" and no changes in the listing made by me will change that;

It is a joke. On the end it is broken robot...omg I could not belive what bs thay are talking, when I as a seller know other side of the medal. So robots for producing things are bad, but bots who can ruin entire shop because of bad training are very good.

    Hi Kara!! I just realized on Friday that 6 of my listings are not showing (comes out to be 14...so far) Had a friend in the UK, family in HAwaii,my husband from his parents and me from my sister in law ( all in Germany). Hours scrolling until the very last page, on the scroll bar taping the first 3/ 4 words one at a time with what the main item is ( a jumpsuit) AND NOTHING!!! I am paying ADS for these pieces and NOTHING! Got in touch with ETSY and they kept giving me links and those typical AI answers. No wonder sales are horrible. How can people buy what they don´t see? Does FRAUD have any other name? I´m beyond pissed! HELP!!

    They might not be indexed in the Etsy system, but just because they're in your shop it doesn't mean that they'll show up in Etsy search at all. Etsy shows a maximum of 250 pages of search results per search term, which is about 10,000 if there's 40 listings per page. If there are more than 10,000 items in that category they only show some of them for any given search.

    This is not an improvement - it's a slippery slope LOL the forums will be flooooded with people who won't know where to put their stuff now, and everyone is already too scared to touch something wrong and break a rule. Many listings are showing as 'designed by' when they're fully handmade. And yeah you can sell Doritos now; as long as you put a couple of other things with them, drop it in a cute gift box and give it a theme. Seriously. Gift boxes can now contain anything you want. I guess their fever for being the #1 gift site has finally reached peak. The site it going to be soaked in 'gift baskets' by next month, ruin is upon us! Probably.

    Dropshipping is a CLEAR violation of Etsy policy. When you add a listing for an item that you dropship, you have to lie when you answer the question. Did you or someone in your shop make the item? When you say YES, it is a lie if you are a dropshipper. If your items are vintage (then, just curious how you drop ship then) or are a supply item (I can see how you may drop ship in supply item case) then it is within policy. But Etsy is loaded with people lying and saying they made something and it gets drop shipped. Where is the soul in the item if one never even SEE it personally, they don't have to worry about packing it for safe shipping and can't even answer specific questions about the actual piece being shipped?

    I sell digital AI generated images for junk journals. Most junk journal digital images are AI generated. I would expect that most sellers are like me….we copy other listings from our current listings. I can’t remember the last time I generated a listing from scratch. It’s too time consuming. When I copy, there is no place to indicate the item is AI generated. I did try to create a new list today and “boom” there was the option to say it was AI generated. I expect the same is true for sellers of physical items. So until they fix the copy listing function to capture all of this new information, this thing isn’t going to go anywhere. It’s just another indication that Etsy doesn’t really understand what their sellers are doing on the platform. I like the way you characterize this…a trashcan that’s painted. Policies with no enforcement behind them are useless.
