Speaker 1: Today in our 2018 Hyundai Tucson, we're going to be installing Curt's class two one and a quarter inch trailer hitch receiver, part number C12241. This is what our hitch is going to look like when it's installed in the vehicle. As you can see most of it's hidden up behind the bumper, and you can really only see the receiving tube and safety chain loops. It's a class two, one and a quarter inch by one and a quarter inch receiver, so this is going to be great for bike racks, cargo carriers, and for light towing. It has a 350 pound tug rate, which is the force going down on top of the receiver, and a 3500 pound gross towing capacity, which is how much that it can pull behind it.Now, you do want to take your vehicle's owner's manual to ensure that you're not exceeding its towing capacities. Curt also recommends that you use a stabilization strap when hauling any non-trailer loads. This is essentially anything without wheels.
Also included with your hitch, you'll receive a half inch pin, and clip, so you have everything you need to hook up your accessory right away. It features horizontal, plate style safety ch-ain loops, and these should be able to accommodate just about any size and style of safety chain loop. We've got a smaller one here, to show that it's going to work with those, and the large opening will accommodate larger ones as well. Now, if you're looking for a hitch for your Tucson, going with a one and a quarter inch is a good idea if you've already got some accessories that'll fit it, or if you don't plan on doing much towing, because a two inch receiver is going to be more versatile, however this will work just fine if you're just looking for bike racks, and other small accessories. Now I've got some measurements for you to help you when deciding on accessories. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiving tube it's going to measure about 14 inches. This is important when deciding if you need a drop or rise in your accessory.
From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outside edge of the bumper, it's going to measure about four inches. This is important when considering any folding accessories to ensure it's not going to contact the bumper. We'll begin our installation under the vehicle by removing the trim panels located on both sides. These plastic panels will come up from the bottom and curve down underneath. There'll be three push pins that you'll have to remove for each panel. You can do this with a flat bladed screwdriver, by going between the tab and the pin, pry the head of it down, and then just pull the pin out.
Repeat that for the other two pins. The fourth and final pin is located towards the front of the vehicle, inside the wheel well. You can now pull back on the wheel well a little bit, and just pull your panel down. We'll set this aside for re-instillation later. We're going to repeat that same process on the other side. I'm just going to install a four well nuts, located on each side of the frame.
Before we put our hitch up there, go ahead and take some lubrication, spray it in the hole, and use a wire brush to clean it out. If you need one of these brushes, you can pick one up here at etrailer.com.Do that for all the holes. This'll help make it easier to install the bolts. Now prepare all your hardware for installation by taking the bolt and sliding a conical tooth washer on it. Make sure the teeth are facing away from the head of the bolt, towards your hitch. Do that for the remaining seven bolts. You can now raise your hitching position. You are going to want to go over the exhaust in your passenger side first, and then raise it up until the bolt holes line up. If you're doing this by yourself I recommend installing the hardware on the driver's side first, because you can use the exhaust to kind of hold it up a little bit for you, and get one bolt started. Once you've got a bolt started on one side, put one bolt in on the other side to hold it in place.Once you've got one started on each side, then go ahead and thread in the remaining bolts on each side. Now tighten and torque all of your hardware to the specifications in your instructions, inaudible 00:04:01 a 17 millimeter socket.Once everything's torqued, reinstall the panels on both sides. Now, that completes our installation of Curt's class two, one and quarter trailer hitch receiver on our 2018 Hyundai Tucson.

I assume installation isn't possible without lifting the vehicle. I tried installing my hitch with the rear wheels on ramps, but I couldn't work the right side flange on the hitch behind and over the muffler hangar while lying on my back on the driveway. Guess I'll have to take it to a shop.

This hitch is rated to tow 3,500 lbs maximum gross trailer weight. You will want to check with the owners manual of your vehicle to see what your vehicle is rated to tow and go with the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Curt/C12241.html
