I invest in both but it is important that the average person understand that Ethereum has a far greater risk of having a catastrophic event. It is far more complex and has already had some serious mishaps. When it comes to scaling (which any crypto must do if it becomes popular) Ethereum has a much bigger problem to deal with and few talk about it. Its block size is growing exponentially and is already twice the size of bitcoin even though it is less than half as old. It is just getting started and we have already witnessed an inability for it to handle the load as we saw with the Stratis ICO. As DAPS and ICOs continue to pile on the potential for problems goes up exponentially. That is just a few of a list of risks that goes on and on from there. Investment yes, but It is a Long Long road before Ethereum proves itself to be a SAFE place to store value.

Summary in investment POV:-All BITCOINS, ETHEREUM OR ATLCOINS prices depend on demand like any other asset.

I am stupid, I don't understand. Also how can a person use these digital currencies if the value of them changes so drastically by the minute?

In 3 years, where are all these smart contracts with ethereum, not counting gambling websites? Ether is the fuel for the contracts, and there are basically no contracts. The value has been going up because people want to participate in ICOs which require ETH to participate....not because people need ethereum for contracts. Ethereum is not finite, like bitcoin and there is already over 90mil of the tokens, compared to bitcoins 16mil....where will it end? I'll tell you that it wont....people say it might switch to POS (proof of stake) and be capped.....tell that to all the miners and see what happens to the price. The Ethereum blockchain size has grown dramatically, much faster than bitcoin's....and this with almost zero real world use of all the functionality, and almost all on speculation and ICOs. There is a scaling problem that makes bitcoins look like a joke. Big companies like Barklays are using a flavour of Ethereum, in their "private" blockchain....they are not using the version of Ethereum that is public, so I dont think this video tells the full story....

ETH had a good run but functional limitations brought on by these ICOs has shown the world that ETH is really just an idea. No practical application right now so it's all speculative investing. You will see people slowly pulling out over time. Bitcoin is the original with the most community support and value (as currency). Litecoin is the most widely accepted with transaction speed increased and cost lowered. Bitcoin and Litecoin FTW.

This is a VERY misleading video. They are designed for completely different things. It's comparing apples to oranges. You can't say that apple is a much more appealing apple then that orange. Bitcoin's algorithm is WAY more secure than Ethereum, making it better for storing money on the blockchain. Ethereum's algorithm is way more open and flexible, making it better for a wider variety of applications that do not include storage of money, but rather smart contracts. They are not the same thing and are not in an "arms race". What is the point of producing this if everyone involved is so ill-informed about this stuff?

All Ethereum functionality can be layered on top of Bitcoin through the use of sidechains. Sidechains effectively allow you to move Bitcoin off of its native blockchain to a new blockchain that uses a different protocol such as Ethereum, while still being denominated in Bitcoin. This would imply Bitcoin and Ethereum are indeed in competition.

No business or individual is going to want to exchange currency 30 times per day or the uncertainty associated with exchange rates over a long period of time, the latter especially true with business. Users will demand all transactions be denominated in one currency to avoid volatility and promote efficiency. Sidechains are horribly confusing to the user now, but they will not be in the future. In the future it will appear to the user as simply a setting of Bitcoin, not as a completely different sidechain. The user will not be able to distinguish sidechains from Bitcoin core in the future, that is how seamless it will be.

Any user will be able to implement any protocol they are comfortable with, while still being plugged into the Bitcoin network effect. Users will not have to move from currency to currency to gain the desired protocol, instead the user will choose any protocol they desire and it will be denominated in Bitcoin. This also creates one key advantage over Ethereum. Bitcoin core has one job and one job only, to securely store value. Ethereum will never be as secure as Bitcoin because it is too flexible.

What if there is a major breakdown on the networking cable undersea throughout the entire world? like major catastrophic event. Would cryptocurrency survived though?

yes i felt the same, imagine someone holding millions of ethereum coins and than paying cnbc to praise ethereum, now since its cnbc everyone will think ethereum is that good and start buying ethereum. the guy who has millions of etherium coins now sees his profile value go up and sells all of them for his profit. this will than cause the ethereum coins value to crash and hence whoever invested after watching this video, they lost a lot of money lol. i really dont know if cryptocurrency is a scam or not thats why i dont invest in it, lol

These "rivals" have nothing in common... Bitcoin is not the same as Eth.. Bitcoin is hard money that takes actual work over actual time to create actual value.

The "flash crash" was a (fatal) trading mistake, which lasted a few seconds, not "ETH losing of all its value"

Ether and Bitcoin are not competing, they do different things. Bitcoin is a store of wealth. Ether is to build apps and contracts. They complement each other. The only "competition" is the market cap value and trading price.

Ethereum is a perfectly functional store of value. It does everything Bitcoin does faster and better, plus it does a million more things. It won't be a competition because Ethereum will just bypass Bitcoin make it irrelevant.

1) That's like saying that since a jackhammer has more force than a hand held one, one should always use a jackhammer. Think what a jackhammer would do hanging a picture for example. Another example would be to use a cannon for bird hunting. 2) Ether is a younger block chain and therefore is "lighter" to compute and transact due to less size of the block and lower traffic. As Ether matures it will have to adapt as scaling requires causing slow downs in transactions, just like Bitcoin did. If you transacted Bitcoin when it was at a comparable age it transacted as quickly as Ether does presently. The extra "baggage" of the expanded capabilities will factor in to cause Ether to present scaling issues sooner. Eventually a "lighter" faster block chain will eventually be the "go to" currency and Ether will be used more and more for contracts etc and less for daily transactions. This is not to say that it becomes less useful. just useful in a different way. This is not so say that I am anti Ether. I mine and hold both coins. This is to say that both Bitcoin and Ether have good fundamental values and will likely survive the shakedown that will eventually occur as the glut of new coins continue. Many of these newer coins do not have a good fundamental value and do not solve any real world problems. Others have good fundamental value and will add to the list of financial instruments that become available. The ones that have a genuine use and value will survive. We are presently at the point in time where the internet was in the early 90's in terms of development and user acceptance. The landscape will change greatly as this technology matures and both Bitcoin and Ether have significant challenges ahead to maintain it's market usefulness. How they meet those challenges will affect their viability in the future. One thing is certain no matter which "coin" you choose. Maintain and keep the bulk of your crypto in a "cold" off line wallet that allows you to be the holder of your private key. Do not keep it on exchanges for any length of time. Have a separate hot wallet for daily transactions so that you can transact with ease.

Actually it isn't judging by the fact that this currency is still holding strong after countries like China or South Korea put regulations on ICO's. This shows that many people actually do use this currency like the average person would use USD. We went from trading gold, to trading a representation of gold (paper money) to printing money out of thin air, to trading money that will exist in the future: (credit and debt); the next logical step is to create a virtual currency. The time for big return on investment is now before it becomes mainstream.

all you know is that they're saying it for a reason.

And hopefully withing the next year we'll be making a video about Stratis Platform. A competitor to Ethereum because of its side chains. Ethereum has shown that it can't handle massive volume due to the whole chain being on, well, one single chain. But Stratis has found a way to solve that, and unless Ethereum finds a way to fix their problem they'll have another competitor with both it's own currency, and smart contracts, but also with sidechains!

Gee, clam down. Both have huge advantages. Ethereum was created after bitcoin, it used bitcoin as a template and improved upon. Bitcoin is the “gold” where as Ethereum is the “silver” both profitable and both on a huge raise. If you didn’t buy bitcoin when it was few hundred bucks you missed out on most of the profit but both are still in the infancy with lots to gain. Don’t get upset just because some video shows other crypto currency to be good as well.

Ethereum programs are on chain and uses one programming language. Bitcoin programs are off chain and are created with any language. I have some Ethereum but I'll mostly stick with Bitcoin.

I mean... not really an arms race but for a main stream media piece this was pretty well done.

Ethereum may has some fancy technologies, it doesn't mean it's superior than Bitcoin. On the contrary, Bitcoin is much more secure and truly decentralized, which is a key factor of blockchain technology. I personally prefer Bitcoin than Ethereum.

Bitcoin can be hacked by quatum computing and it has huge scalability issues. Also the applications of bitcoin are rather limited compared to ETH
