Ethereal: A Celestial Odyssey

Ғылым және технология

Ethereal: A Celestial Odyssey, is a planetarium show which visits various regions of the Milky Way galaxy. We look at the formation of stars and nebulas, and what happens to them as they come to the end of their lives, including supernovas, neutron stars and black holes.
---------------------------------------------------------------
The definition of 'ethereal' is "extremely delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world" or "heavenly or spiritual". I chose the name of this show due to these definitions being closest to what I feel is elicited when I think of space and our universe, and felt it was rather fitting.
This project concludes a year of on and off work which involved a lot of learning both about the processes discussed in the show from my own research and university lectures (especially on the galaxy formation section and the types of nebula; of which my lecturer's have my thanks) and on learning 3D modelling for the use of new assets to enhance the planetarium experience (to which I owe Charlie a great deal of thanks as well for his guidance and for putting up with my many questions).
This has been a project of great passion and I hope you all enjoy.

Has it really been that long since the blackhole photograph!? I feel like that was after lockdown or at the very earliest towards the end of it. 🧐 Maybe it became a popular topic a few years after because I wasn’t far removed from school in 2017 and do not remember this. But I remember when it was all in news articles and videos about the first capture and it was a black dot with orange glare surrounding it.

The first image was taken in 2017 but it was released two years after in 2019.
