@@thyop89 Yes, and they are done on a shoestring, are hardly promoted and usually just disappear. We had one lucky Oscar season where a bunch of interesting movies came through and currently we are spoiled with Barbie (which as a movie is not yet a franchise) and Oppenheimer. But if you look at the past two years, you will have to admit that there were more impactful well-budgeted and successful non-franchise movies (or at least adaptions at the beginning of that journey) than we had five years ago. Of you were born 89 you are also too young to know what cinema was before it was taken down by the franchise-only diet. In that case you should do some research before blabbering nonsense, as never in your life you were able to experience what going to the cinema was like.
Hawk is always a good conversationalist, really interesting to listen to.
I have such admiration for Ethan Hawke. He has found a way to keep a young man's energy and aura. I mean, he's 47, but he comes accross as a vibrant twenty something. He's also such a real person, something that is very rare in the entertainment business. When he speaks, you pay attention, because you know wisdom and truth are about to come. Much respect. I hope he and Richard Linklater make a new 'Before...' movie btw. Such a beautiful trilogy.
@bleumarin1968

i so agree with you, considering they made the 3 movies before about 9 years apart each, the last one came out in 2013, we are in 2018, so it takes about 2 to 3 years to make a movie... meaning they can start writing it right now ! ;-)

Hello there. Thank you very much for your lovely words, I really do appreciate it. Tell me what's your favorite movie of all my movies you have seen so far ?
Ethan Hawke is known for his reading. He has great books all over the place, keeps an ebook too, but talks about when you put your total concentration into that author, the energy of a superb book stays with you, incorporates its ideas and philosophy into you forever. You may not remember a movie ten minutes after seeing. But a book you have crawled into that writer’s mind. Just me and the author. Reading is thrilling. Folks who read sound brilliant and empathetic because they ARE.

Intelligence mixed with enthusiasm is entertaining.
I was 11 when Dead Poets Society was released. It remains one of the most inspiring and emotionally moving films of my life, even now at 40 years old. Thoreau runs through my veins because of that film. I had the good fortune to meet Robin during my third tour in Afghanistan. He was so kind. I wonder how much of Ethan's kindness is thanks to Robin's smiling face. I love that Ethan appears to have not a negative thing to say about anyone. I love how humble and complimentary he is. I've loved his work my whole life, and it's nice to see he's a pretty amazing dude. This video is a hugely welcome respite from the unending stream of vitriol and division that has become the standard. Just be excellent to each other.

He's spot on. How many times have we walked out of a theatre and felt nothing, just thinking about what to get to eat instead? I love movies and I try to watch as many as possible, but it's only one or perhaps two movies every year that really leaves a mark. The last one was Call Me By Your Name and I hope that we'll see more of those movies in the future instead of the bland (yet popular) movies that we've seen a hundred times before.

You might not believe me, but it was his intelligence, his empathetic ability to express himself, and his fervor in explaining his characters, that found room in my heart, immediately after beauty, went into the background compared to talent.

Guys a lesser known movie from ethan hawke is called Before Sunrise. Check it out its amazing and its a 3 part movies known as the before trilogy.
Honestly “Good Kill” may be one of the most underrated and eye opening movies of his career and he really doesn’t even say much but the movie will have you really questioning things afterward. It’s one of those movies that somehow nobody saw or ever talks about but is too real in its subject matter and his performance is subtle but stellar if you guys are E hawks fans it is a must see I can’t believe nobody has made one comment about it

Oh my gosh, what an excellent interview talking about Mark Rylance; and the end, when Ethan made the point about “a good movie happens at the end when you’re walking out the theater...” such a good point. Also, did anyone else think that Ethan looked like Matthew Modine in the clip LSSC played of his new film? I thought so, a bit. Man, I love interviews like these. The storytelling just grips you. Gives you chills. It was the same feeling I got when Stephen interviewed Ann Dowd a couple months ago.
