I stopped watching immediately after the heat because I was bummed Ethan didn't get the score. Was so surprised when I found out he actually did get the score. Now I feel awful for Pittar....WSL you need to put in a appeal system if a opponent feels hard done by. Lots of sports use this system.

THANK YOU!!! It's already past the time... Unfortunately in surfing, subjectivity will always be presente, which opens the door for things like this happening. But it's getting worse and more frequent.... For example, nothing stops me now to believe that there COULD BE an agenda for Ewing to be in the Top 5 🤷🏽‍♂️ See? There has to be something about clarifying the way of thinking, the criterias that will be considered more that day, the head judge explaining the scores in close heats and "buzzer-beating" waves... It's their credibility on stake. I don't know how in 2024, we are still at this point... Surfing is more professional that has ever been, surfing now is in the Olympics, and WSL still maintain actions that raise doubts about the integrity of competition.

I'm a surfer who admires Ethan's style, but I really thought George won this heat, and didn't even find it close. There are specific, nuanced criteria that judges look for that might not be immediately obvious. If these justify the outcome, I'd like an explanation. Moreover, if explaining this can help many people understand and provide insights to a broad range of everyday surfers, then it's something that should definitely be done. Proceeding without any detailed explanation as to why Ethan advanced feels very unsettling.

I am going to go back and watch the heat to see if Ewing's last wave score was deserved. Watching it live I didn't think it would be more than 5.5. Edit: I rewatched Ewing's last wave a few times. Great rail work but it just didn't seem like it should have received the score it did. Hopefully Pittar gets on the tour full time because he definitely can compete with the heavy hitters.

I think the judges realized they over scored Georges 6.9 when they looked back at Ewing's high score and saw that his wave was as good if not better, so they gave him a bump on his last wave. That happens from time to time, too bad the kooks in the comments can't figure that out. Ewings surfing reminds me of Parkos, almost too smooth for competition, makes everything look too easy.
