    Thank you, I followed your recommendation and bought the second edition of across the spectrum. There is a third edition but I like second hand books and discounted prices, it will give me a good idea of the concept.

    Always love your reviews. I love listening to all your explanations. Very informative although sometimes a little over my head (which is a good thing. I am a bible nerd wanna be). I see that across the spectrum has a third addition coming soon. I wonder if I should wait for that.

    Very useful review. The Word of God...Wow! how can the finite search it out completely. Study aids are just tools. The main feast is the Word and sometimes we choke if we add some other sides on our plates.

    Your review was excellent. I'm so glad I watched to the end, else I would have missed your most invaluable and unbias comment, that the truth-seeker would be subtly persuaded to to take up the same presuppositions as the authors when doing one's own personal exposition/study. I was a click away from buying both this ESV systematic Study Bible AND Wayne Gruden Systematic Theology Study Bible. Should one stick to word-for-word Bible commentaries; and let Holy Spirit shape our personal doctrines as one gets through a first-pass of studying each 66 Books? Can you recommend a good unbiased Bible commentary? God bless, and dont worry that your video is too long. Your personal insights are precious.

    I don't know of any "unbiased" Bible commentaries, as all of them are the interpreter's thoughts on the text. But I am personally not a big fan of Grudem's work, so I would not recommend him, as I think there are better Reformed voices out there.

    @@DiscipleDojo I concur, tgat a one-person authorship is undoubtedly restrictive. I like the approach of Steve Gregg who emphases "education" over "indoctrination".

    James Leo Garrett has an excellent 2 volume Systematic Theology which lays out the range of the different theological perspectives on the doctrines. Some have gotten frustrated because for some he doesn't settle on an answer. Unfortunately this work hasn't had as much traction as it should have had in the Evangelical world. I'd pick his and Oden's as essential ones.

    I have a question, you kinda said it here and I have heard many others say it. Do you think it should be a requirement for pastors who teach to know Hebrew and Greek?

  • @DiscipleDojo

    @DiscipleDojo

    If they have the means to learn it, yes, I believe anyone who teaches the Bible for a living should have a basic knowledge of Hebrew and Greek.

    "By now you should ALL be teachers." We are all called to teach, just some more than others. I agree with the ambivalence about systematic theology. But also the first thing isn't even Bible study, but character and discipleship. Love God/love another/the 58 one anothers. Alongside reading and studying scripture in community, but never emphasizing intellectual knowledge over character and service. This is how Western Christianity got into murdering each other for 1000 years, all the way up to todays rampant spiritual abuse and culty behavior.

    Why is the name Lucifer not found in the ESV bible and any of the other new translations, and why is Jesus's title morning star given to the Devil? Is it because the KJV Bible is corrupted?

  • @chrisjohnson9542

    @chrisjohnson9542

    8 ай бұрын

    I can answer your question. The reason lucifer is not in the new translations is because the word lucifer is a Latin word which means light bearer that was translated that way in the Latin vulgate and they kept that Latin term when the KJV was translated but it is not in the original languages. Translated in English it means light bearer so that's how the newer translations translated it.

    If a systematic theology was _good,_ wouldn't it not make distortions? If every systematic theology makes distortions, doesn't that mean we don't yet have a good one? We have one unchanging God and one reality
