I am 51 years old, and I have found that to be true for most of my life. The strange part about that when I was a kid there was a PBS show called "the Big Blue Marble". I learned a lot the rest of the world, and remember thinking, "what did I do to get to be an American". The way people in this nation act toward the nation and there fellow Americans just amazes me about how little they can care.

Most Americans do not know how blessed we really are. A friend of mine from Moscow questioned me about life here... was it really the Utopia we see in Hollywood movies? I said no, that’s fantasy... but even with the problems we may deal with every day, I would never live anywhere else. I love my country and other than a vacation now and again, I would never leave it.

My Iraqi dad fought in these wars, he was conscripted. He always tells me that most of the men in the Iraqi army never wanted to fight the Americans (Explains why there were so many prisoners), nor did they want conflict beyond securing their borders and oil supply. Iraqi government was beyond corrupt and it shows throughout the entire course of the wars. It's sad hearing his stories about how he wished he could pursue college further and make a name for himself in his home country. Instead, an Iraqi government wasted multiple opportunities to begin its conversion into a respected country and its people pay for it to this day. My dad has been in the USA for well over 20 years now and he was finally afforded his right to start a family and live a happy life. HE EVEN SERVED AS A TRANSLATOR IN THE US ARMY DURING OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (Task Force Falcon). I don't know if anyone will see this, I just want people to know that Iraqi civilians want a better world and many are doing their best despite the poor hand they were dealt. Thank you, I hope all my brothers around the planet can heal together.

I Thank your father for his helping us was in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom (for several tours) our interpreters saved a lot of lives on both sides and among the civilian populations at great personal risk one of my units platoons was ambushed on there way to a meeting 2 KIA 2 seriously wounded when our interpreter who had ample opportunity to get out of there picked up a rifle defended the wounded and then helped fight off the insurgents. It does my heart good to hear you and your family is here in the US safe. You have my apologies as well I and and a hell of a lot of others tried to give you a safe and better country that was not so corrupt but the truth from experience is for every good man or woman in Iraq there are three corrupt snakes trying to rip everyone else off or take what the good people have and are incapable of getting it honestly. There was a shop keeper in Tikrit that insurgents hurt him bad for money and supplies, my patrol (I was a platoon Sgt at the time) came upon the attack we killed them after they opened fire on us and we had him medavaced the the 24th CASH at FOB Spiecher then we boarded up his shop when we started to leave people started trying to break in even with his wife and kids there so we posted a watch on the place for four days till he was out of the hospital. He stopped my patrol a couple of weeks later to thank us and he arranged for ways the area could let us know there was a problem. I Hope he is safe and doing Ok. But he was one of the few good honorable people, like your Father and people like your father that shop keeper I will always Defend and assist. May health, happiness and freedom always shine on your father, you and your family. You may not understand this and I hope your father knows that your family is considered a part of the US military family by us soldiers.

I remember that a lot of the conscripts just came towards us and surrendered straight away when they saw us. We had no way to transport people so we would radio their position and leave them water and MREs ( food ) so we knew they would be OK until help arrived. Many were close to starvation and worse. We knew the civilians weren't behind the war and we went out of our way to be as understanding as we could in a war zone. I think our medics managed to save a few lives too. We did what was needed and did it professionally. I am very proud of that.

Im sure there are many people that don't even think that the presence of the US in the region allows them to live a little easier because we drive away threats. We appreciate the acknowledgment Artur and I hope in the future we can do a lot more for and with Estonia.

BadFlounder That reminds me of the story my Dad told. Before he went to Vietnam, he had 2 weeks of survival training in Southern California. They were given a knife and were sent out to live off the land. After a week and a half of eating snakes, insects, rabbits and cactus pads, they came to a fence with a content cow grazing on the other side. But the rancher spray painted the animal with “Do not eat!”

The reason the only Abrams in the war was destroyed by friendly fire was because it got stuck in the mud while it was destroying 3 other T72s and the US didnt want it to be taken and copied so they blew it up and it still didn't stop working LOL. " In his 1994 non-fiction book, Armored Cav, Tom Clancy recounted a tale of how an M1A1 Abrams got stuck in the mud during the ground war of Desert Storm. It was then set upon by three tanks, Iraqi T-72s specifically. A round fired from roughly a thousand yards away bounced off, and the Abrams responded by blowing the T-72 that fired it to bits. A second round fired from 700 yards, bounced off, and the offending T-72 was blasted. The third T-72, at a range of roughly 400 yards, fired a round, which left a groove in the armor of the Abrams. It, too, was destroyed by a shot fired through a sand berm. These were, supposedly, Russia's state-of-the-art tanks. Then, when help arrived, and the tank couldn't be freed from the mud, a platoon of Abrams tanks tried to destroy it. After several rounds, they detonated the onboard ammo, but the blow-out panels functioned as designed. Then, when the tank was retrieved from the mud, they discovered that it was still functional. The only issue? A sight was out of alignment."

They were incredibly bad tanks with poor protection and outdated weaponry. And even if the Iraqis did have Russia’s best, US training and experience would’ve won the day anyway.

@Cheryl Bailey I remember the great video footage by CNN, a newcomer to cable news, of the air war and the nightly bombings. The only reason the Iraqi government allowed them to broadcast live from Baghdad all the time is that they watched the show and were fed intel in real time by people like Blitzer and Arnett, intel they didn't have access to. Whenever Iraq would launch a scud towards Saudi or Israel, CNN would say how close they missed other more valuable targets. Don't recall much of the ground war phase, as it was over within 100 hrs, and moved very quickly.

They saw Russian equipment and doctrine, that was being used by veteran elite armored units of the Iraqi army utterly crushed. They stayed and fought and were obliterated, in a raging sandstorm, by an enemy they couldn't even see.

A lot of the Saudi military buildup has occurred since Desert Storm as they have realized Iraq and Iran are their greatest threat, not Israel. Also, the flexibility in command seems to be aimed at junior officers and non-commissioned offices more than entry level enlisted soldiers. So American privates get yelled at as much as you did.

It is true, yes. Privates and corporals are generally told to follow orders. However, if shit hits the fan, they are still able to make split-second decisions. But, most of the time, that is left up to the Squad Leader or similar. They generally have access to more info, and have experience, so... Yeah.

  • @dwatts64

This is true. Can confirm. Though I'll say that even junior enlisted men are allowed to disobey direct orders for ethical reasons. We are also taught in a way that when the junior NCOs and small unit leaders go down (in USMC this would be E4/Corporal to E6/StaffSgt, someone's E7/Gunny falls in if you're talking Platoon level) the junior enlisted step up and fill the space, taking the same leadership roles. I can only really speak from experience regarding the US Marine Corps, but the mentor programs and the ideals they instill from the start in Boot Camp do a great job of preparing junior Marines. We used to always talk about how we always should be training the guy under us to take our job. We did it because either through promotion or combat, he likely will.

The navy used to have a system for naming ships. Battleships were named for states, cruisers were named for cities, aircraft carriers were named for historic American battles or continental navy warships, destroyers & destroyerescorts (frigates) were named for natable navy or Marine personnel, and Submarines were named for sea creatures. This system started to be ignored in the late 1960s, most notably when the 688 class attack subs were named after the hometowns of the congressmen who voted to approve the development of them.

Hey Artur, love your content. One very important factor that the video did not mention and you see a lot in technology vids is that Coalition forces were very well trained, very disciplined, and finally equipped. Many American warfighters said that their desert warfare training was harder than Desert Storm. It made a huge difference. I wish that they would have stated that. Some other details to consider about the opposing MBTs were that the export variants of T72 armor systems were inferior to Coalition force Abrams and Challenger I main gun and ammunition systems. There is one account of an Abrams firing an APFSDS (Sabot) at a T72, killing it when the 10lb Mach 4 sabot slammed completely through the T72 and retained enough kinetic energy to penetrate and kill a second T72 on the other side of the now destroyed and burning hulk of the first T72. Abrams estimated damage resistance from her DU armor plates was 1500mm. Keep in mind this was the A2 variant with it's block updates from over two decades ago. Abrams and Challenger I typically engaged Iraqi T72 and T55 MBTs at such extreme ranges that surviving Iraqi EPWs (Enemy Prisoner of War) stated that the only way they knew that American and British heavy armored forces were engaging them, was when their tanks started exploding from an enemy that was behind visual range. The reason for this was that they did not possess optics that were capable of long range detection. There is an after action report from an Iraqi tank brigade commander who stated during an interview that at the beginning of Operation Desert Shield (the air campaign) he lost one or two tanks. He said that upon making contact with Coalition forces his entire brigade was completely destroyed within minutes of engaging American armored forces. Always enjoy your videos. From one vet to another, take care out there brother. BTW loved your comment about bringing freedom lol. Keep up the great work dude.

So, the Discord Server is coming along very well. There are still some things I need to do with the bots, and the automatic moderation since we expect to see a few thousand members in there very quickly. The Discord Server consists of different channels, each channel has it’s own topic, therefore when you all want to talk about a topic, for example something to do with History, there’s a channel for that. We will also have an Ideas channel for potential videos that Artur could do, so it’s pretty cool we can all discuss on potential videos in there. We also have a very cool bot, that lets us host giveaways. Giveaways are held for Sergeants, and Generals. All KZread Memberships to Artur, you will all have a special role within the server. You will also have your very own channels to speak amongst each other. Remember, that Generals will be able to speak to Artur, once or twice a week! As far as progress goes, it’s going very well and I’ll try and keep you all updated on an exact release date. But remember, it should be done by June 15 or 16. Artur will post the Discord Invite Link in his video description when we finally release the server. Until his next video, stay cool! Bye Bye!

When I was in the U.S. Army it was my understanding that wire guided missiles where designed that way for a reason , being wire guided made it a closed system meaning it could not be jammed.

Minor correction: The U.S. Marines and the U.S. Navy say "Oorah!!!" The U.S. Army says "Hooah!!". Also: The U.S. Marines Corps motto is "Semper Fidelis" (Always Fathful). In the U.S. Navy, we tease the Marines by using the U.S. Navy unofficial motto, "Semper Gumby" (Always Infinitely Flexible). This refers to the 1960s clay animation, "Claymation" childrens' show "Gumby". See: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumby The Soviets treated war as being like a chess game where there was an optimum solution to every tactical problem. The Americans treat war as being similar to a game of poker in that there is "the fog of war", you can sometimes bluff the enemy into doing something stupid, and a suboptimal response done right during the fog of war can sometimes yield super optimal results. The Soviet military often referred to the U.S. military as, "The Main Enemy". To quote the Soviet military journal "Red Star" (Krasnaya Svezda): "The chief problem in dealing with the Main Enemy is that their officers often do not read their tactical doctrine manuals and do not feel it is necessary to comply with the dictates contained therein in any event." We call a chaotic situation a "cluster fuck", abbreviated CF. The NATO phonetic alphabet for CF is "Charlie Foxtrot". The foxtrot was a dance invented about a century ago. We used to say: "When Charlie dances the Foxtrot, you need to embrace the chaos, take the lead in the dance, and then dance the Foxtrot faster than Charlie can." 69 year old Mustang Naval Flight Officer sends.

You should react to the battle of COP Keating, or Camp Outpost Keating. It was a battle from the Afghanistan War and it was an outpost surrounded by mountains which were held by talibans and basically COP Keating had to defend itself against the talibans in the mountains until they could be evacuated from the outpost. It was a very grueling battle.

My father was actually shot down during Desert Shield/Desert Storm while on their way to attempt to rescue a downed pilot. Out of 8 people on his Blackhawk, he was one of 3 people who survived and became a POW for a little over a week. It screwed him up really bad physically as well as mentally, but he does talks and shares his experience at certain events, schools and also talks at SERE school often. I wasn't born until after the fact, but it still has had a fairly large impact on my unlikely life.

Not only are you a Tank guy, but you're also a car guy! (Noticed this by how many references you make to American cars in some of your videos.) To make reference to your earlier comment in this video: My highschool car was a Camaro, a 1968 that I picked up for cheap when I was thirteen, got it on the road by the time I turned sixteen. Been twenty-three years since I got it, still have it.

Hey Artur, you would enjoy the episode of "Greatest Tank Battles" that covers 73 Easting. If you haven't seen it yet that is. I believe the whole episode is on KZread. Lots of interviews and footage. The actual battle is animated since nobody stopped to get their camera out of course.

I just recently subscribed. I love your videos. As a fellow vet and a fellow infantryman. Please please take a look and consider a review of Black Rifle coffee companies videos. Infantryman have an insane sence of humor. It's a veteran run coffee company. Take a look at their commercials. As veteran and an infantryman you'll get them and their humor. We're Americans and I'm in Washington it's always about coffee. Laugh you lose. One grunt to another keep doing what your doing and God Bless You. Sgt. Griffin.
