Chicago red lace interchangeables
I am learning to crochet. I knit and I received the knit companion for my 75th birthday. Do you have a tutorial for knit companion. I have the subscription and app. I know I’m barely using it, but I can’t knit anything from paper pattern or download not on the knit companion. I loved your quick reference to the color highlight of stitch count throw out pattern and how you kept reference to abbreviations close at hand. I also loved your ball winder. Mine is plastic, my balls or cakes are in knots and tangled messes around the mechanism. I love your video it is very helpful. I want to try your 2 cake bag and the large bag. I’m thrilled to find you on UTube.I have not yet been on instagram. Thank you. I UN stood you perfectly, I am deaf, but you enunciate well, I can read you lips. Also I don’t have to use the CC. I’m excited. I’m hoping next year to get a new iPad. Mine is very old and very slow, some programs don’t run on it. Knit Companion does though. A million thanks for all of your great info. I’ll research your tutorials.
I tried the progress marker thingy you suggested on a long shirt I'm knitting right now and it works great! Not only does it help me stay motivated and keep track of my rows, it also makes measuring a LOT easier. Thank you for suggesting it, you are the BEST!!!
Natalie, You’re favorite knitting tools are in line with mine. Thanks for another great podcast!

Aww yay!!
Knitcompanion 😍 you just changed my whole knitting life. THANK YOU!
Love my ChiaoGoo Interchangeables. I have the Red Twist Mini set for socks and the Red Twist regular set that has from size 2 to 15. They are amazing and I won't knit with anything else. I've also let a lot of my local fiber buddies try them and most of them have ended up buying a set of the regulars. It's such a good range of sizes and their cables are just so great to use. I have Furls Odessey Hooks that I love for my crochet work. I have four right now and for the rest of my hooks, I have a knock-off set of the Clover Amours from Amazon. And finally, I really like Fiber Artist Supply Co. I bought some Kumihimo supplies from them a few years ago and a yarn swift. Loved their winder too. Hope to get one some day. For now, I have $14 one from Amazon.
Definitely Susan Bates. I started with those so that may be the reason I love them.
Love the Clover hooks - always my faves!

Yay!!! Thanks!
Hooks, yarn, darning needle, sticth markers, scissors are the essential needs. I did not start knitting yet, so I can not comment on that part. Anything else like winders etc are luxury extras that speed up stuff I can do with my hands, or cutesies that I like. For hooks, even though I have multiple hook sets, my dark gray silcone handle Tulip Etimos are the ones my hands look for and want to crochet with 99% of the time regardless of yarn type, but I also have a Kartopu brand plastic hook set I also like to work with on some types of yarn.
I love your introduction to crochet materials keep it up you are good. Thanks
I’m a tapered/boye style. Although, I have to say, I’ve switched to the ergonomic hobby lobby hooks. They’re lightweight and have a good grip. I’ve tried the tulip and it was a close second.
Just downloaded the pattern for those project bags! Can’t wait to give it a try they look fantastic❤
2:15 The rainbow ones I know as Knitpro Symfonie’s are my fave too! I bought them separately over a year to build a full set with a couple of extras sizes 4/6 when I started knitting 7-8 years ago… I love them! 5:03 I’m the same, I’m not a fan of metal needles otherwise except in DPN’s but you still have to have a couple circ pairs “just in case” 🤗
I just bought a pair of your favorite sock needle brand for making an afghan and they are a game changer. I am knitting a diagonal blanket with 4 strands held together to empty my scrap bin. I knew I had nothing strong enough, so I ordered them from Amazon -- Size 17. While waiting for them to arrive, I broke the two sets I had. These are a game changer!! Strong and flexible; non-kinking. The afghan is a beast and almost done (I started it 5 weeks ago. Another win is that my stash is busted and I won't have to move it to our new place!!
Thanks for this Natalie. I pinged you on Insta the other day asking about needles to buy. I first looked on your YT to see if you had such a video. This will help me and others in the future. Thanks. ❤️

Yes! I’m always happen to answer questions too 💕💕
I love your videos.😂 They are very nice 👍🙂. I am a crocheter and I love to make things. You explain well about crochet hooks.
I just learned about so many new items! I am just hitting that point where I have finally accepted that fiber crafts are worth investing in and I am planning to find those yarn needles (both kinds) right away. Also, how have I never heard of Knit Companion?! I just downloaded it and can't wait to use it!
Love your videos. Always insightful. Other essentials are small scissors, needle gauge and a retractable measuring tape so it doesn’t take too much room in project bags. I also have a small container to keep my notions

The 1st interchangeable needles I got on CLEARANCE A few years ago at Hobby Lobby under $2 a set.. bought one of each..I can use the wires from my Knitters Pride I have.. they are AMAZING!!!🤗🙏🤟
I want to thank you for talking about knit companion. I just downloaded it and what a great tool. Every knitter/crocheter should download this app. I knew nothing about it until I watched your video. Thanks again. First time watching and I hit subscribe and look forward to more videos

Very informative. My first time here. Socks are my fav.
I love this video. I use my overbed table daily, during knitting. The wheels have long since choked to death on an overdose of cat hair, but pulling a pair of old sports socks over the length that touches the floor works better anyways. My in use yarn is kept in shoebox sized plastic bins, to deter dust and dander. Bifocals are essential to knit life for me. KZread is very necessary to yarny success as well. Thank you for your high quality content. 💕💕💕💕 🧶🤓🇨🇦

Chiagoo red lace interchangable needles, addi turbo 32" size 1 for socks, lightbulb stitich markers, CoCo Knits stitch markers (love these!), T-pins, misc. crochet hooks for error correction, a large die (single dice) which I use for tracking simple pattern repeats, Ravelry, Knit Companion. Scissors and a tape measure.

I LOVE CLOVER HOOKS!!!! But to say that I am a Boye or a Susan Bates girl.... I would say it depends on what I'm making. I LOVE the bigger hooks in Susan Bates, like the 8, 9 or 10mm. That works perfect for getting in to thicker stitches. But Clover is my favorite for sure! Especially for Amigurumi!
I adore Furls and Pryms crochet hooks and Prym knitting needles.
@KnittyNatty

I haven’t hears if Prym! I’ll have to look those up!!
I use progress keepers in my knitting to show the right side or when I am doing stockinette rows to mark the knitting rows so I don't get mixed up
re: ball winders - I've been putting off buying one for several years. My girlfriend's late mother was also a maker and used to have my gf and her brother help her wind her yarn by hand! So now my gf insists on doing the same for me. It's really cute :)

I learned to wind my balls using a stick they used to call a nostepinne. I learned how to do it on KZread and just use a piece of old broom handle. I had a ball winder but it was VERY fussy and frustrating.

Now you have a PERSONAL yarn winder ;)
I have not knit it more than a year and a half for health reasons. Interchangeable sock sets were available from Hiya Hiya and Chiaogoo for quite some time prior to that. It is true they may be difficult to find locally or some people but they are generally not difficult to find online if you have your heart set on a set.
Natalie I just found this video and it is awesome. I too use Knit Companion, the free version, but I see this video is a couple years old. Do you have anything more current about the knit companion? I saw where they are having a series of app updates this week. Thank you. Connie
Susan Bates Sullivan Inline hooks are my favorites.
Chiaogoo has sock sized interchangeable and their complete set starts at US2(2.75mm), another essential is a Silvalume or crochet hook to fix errors, gauge rulers to check gauge, tiny scissor under 3 inch are tsa approved, reeling measuring tape , Twizzter for walking and knitting, mesh bags for storing accessories, knit companion in ipad and use google drive to save pattern.
That was Great!,!! LOTS OF TIPS!, Thanks,so much,, Elaine in canada🏡🏡🏡🏡

I can't crochet without my 1gallon Rubbermaid pitcher. I put my thread ball in the pitcher, thread goes through the pour spout, lid goes on. It keeps my thread ball out of reach of my cats, and it stays in the pitcher and doesn't unroll all over the floor.
Those Susan bats weaving needles are my absolute favorites.
Thank you for this list! :)

SUSAN BATES HOOKS ARE AMAZING
Mot the newest video but got this in my recommendations since I took up knitting again. There's so many small improvements to knitting like in the past you had to use regular safety pins or paperclips as markers because nothing else was available, but they can get stuck or be harder to get in. Also needles with different color for each size is so much easier for double ended knitting needles, I used to buy second hand needles and didn't have a full size set so never got arround to make a case for them so had them in a mugg wich sometimes meant just having to check each needle for the right
When I started crocheting I went with the basic aluminum hooks my grandma uses. I hate them. I had large hands and they're just so skinny. I tried the ergonomic home and I love them. I actually wore out the rubber cover from the handle on my favorite one. So I got into polymer clay trying to figure out how to make the handle on the books I dint like more ducting as well as save my favorite hook. It's a great way to get the size handle I want and make my hooks my personal.

Gracias
I have this little tool (don’t remember it’s actual name) but it has a crochet hook on one end and a knitting point on the other and it doubles as a cable needle as well as picking up and fixing dropped stitches. I keep one in multiple places, just in case.

I have the same type of swift. What is that green clip? For securing the yarn end?
Hi, I was hoping that you would recommend going to your local yarn store (lys) to support them to purchase needles and/or notions. Most lys also do mail order if needed. We need to keep support the our locals and keep them in business. Amazon of course is cheaper buy your toilet paper from them and knitting and crocheting supplies locally. Thanks 🧶🧶💕
Chiaogoo makes interchangeable knitting needles I believe down to size 00.
How does that Knit Companion app work if you're like me and have a TON of vintage paper patterns from your Nana? Is there a way to upload them?
Can you do a yarn winding tutorial? I have the same winder and similar swift but my yarn cakes always “yarn barf” and get tangled in the center, so I’ve switched to pulling from the outside instead of the center. I’d love to pull from the center tho. Any tips would help a lot.
@KnittyNatty
3 жыл бұрын
I get yarn barf too! 😅 I think it’s from winding to tightly, so putting the hank on the swift a little looser might help!
Boye girl here!
Definitely Team Boye! I haven't tried ergonomic hooks because they seem to mostly have a Susan Bates type head. Plus, I use pencil hold more than knife hold, and I'm not sure how well they work for that.

How do you store your crochet hooks and knitting needles?
What about sock blockers? Where do you get yours? They’re so cute.
I don't like my yarn feeding through a hole and then being stuck there until I cut the yarn. That would be the benefit for me of the Big Sully, but I agree that seems super expensive.
Thanks for this great video. I will make sure to join the iPad giveaway. On a side note, I think you should have mentioned your yarn cozy lite as an essential when not using a float tote 😉

My go to tools are my wooden umbrella swift (don't remember the brand), my new ball winder which is the Fiber Artist Jumbo winder with the electric self winder - no more hand winding yarn! My go to needles are Chiaogoo, I have 2 full small interchangeable set and 1 large interchangeable set, as well as many Size 1.5 standard needles for socks.
