Essentialism

In today's world, being busy is the new norm.
We have a ton of projects we would like to do, and whenever something new comes up, we try to fit it in our already overflowing schedules.
We believe that if we just work more and work harder, we can do it all.
However, being busy doesn't mean we're actually doing things that are important.
The truth is that most things that we do, aren't important at all, but instead are completely trivial.
The antidote to this overwhelming busyness is essentialism.

    Thanks for your hard work on this video. It's really inspiring. My comment: We have a self-sabotaging system. Alcohol, drugs, laziness, overeating are some of them which are obvious. Moreover, some respectful areas (such as career, science, exercise, art, charities etc) may help the sabotage system, if we don't see our real problems. But why do we sabotage our life, are we crazy? I think it is a childhood/teenage experience. That time, when we were not happy, we found the comfort in turning out our emotions. I think we don't need to work hard, we need to get out of our comfort zones (which is really hard). Gradually success comes, we enjoy life more.

    I've found one word that describe myself better than any other! I've lived this way, and I've actually lost friends, and only have a few left who share a real interest with me and don't require babysitting. I think it's better to lose friends who's interests aren't interesting at all, and thus waste my time to babysit them. Thanks for the video!

    Tried for 3 years to function in a home office jammed to the walls with too many things: 2 desks, reading chair, bookshelves, large monitor, etc. Finally cracked. Sold the reading chair and tossed the 2nd desk. kept only what was essential for getting my work done. Not an earth-shattering move, but essentialist all the same. Also, I bought Greg’s book sometime before that.

I am in the midst of trying to figure out ways to start a business or earn money from home while caring for my 1 year old. I haven’t felt healthy so I started exercising, cooking healthier, and trying to do my hobby of drawing and creating a platform to share my art work. Because I work from home as a Teacher and also studying for Teaching certificate as online teachers don’t earn much I just do not have enough hours of the day. I did exactly what you said and sacrificed sleep and this affected everything.

    Janek I guess I would just ask yourself do you really enjoy and look forward to doing it and is it stopping you from enjoying something else more? If you do enjoy doing it and you think it is a good use of your time and there is nothing else that you think is more important you should be doing than keep playing! Everyone needs some kind of hobby or thing to relax them, in the right context video games can be that.

  • @williamstanley4960
    @williamstanley49603 жыл бұрын

    Working hard is a symbolic representation of trying hard enough to please God. Working smart is a symbolic representation of knowing the one fact that matters; the blood of Jesus Christ washes away sin, and no efforts of our own ever will. God made survival relatively easy to accomplish, as long as begging and playing on the sympathies of others counts. As part of reality, it does. But, He also made it possible to thrive, and to do so requires a change of mind -- repentance is changing your mind. Business is an amazing mechanism for revealing God to the world!
