Essential Spartan Gear: What you need to wear for Obstacle Course Running 2019
Ойын-сауық
For those that ask, “What do I need to wear for spartan?”: this is the only list of gear (shoes, compression socks, shorts, gloves) you need for Obstacle Course Racing. This my tested and proven go to gear and why you will want the same stack. When I started racing, I quickly realized that there is so much bad information about race gear. Which resulted in me going through an expensive trial and error period. Let me save you money and time. I have used this gear in Spartan, Savage Race, Terrain Race, Maniac Mudder and The Gauntlet. I have yet to do a tough mudder

Gonna run my first spartan this weekend. This really calms my nerves, I like how calm and actually informative this is from you personal perspective. Very helpful.
Thanks for the advice - good getting advice from actual people who have the experience and have done the races.
Thanks! And I can't stop laughing at the clips of the Star Wars outfits, so ridiculous and funny! I hope someone wears that to my race.

I brought the Spartan Sprint shoe for my race in Oct. I have done 3 different types of OCS and I agree with what you said. It was great information to say to wear long socks... I never thought about that... thank you.

@@tiny_mandan4827 For clothes, as long as it doesn't restrict your stride while training. For shoes, I think it is beneficial in the sense if you go to something lighter during the race you will feel all the faster. And the relatively short distance of the races shouldn't lead to any injury. With that said, your race shoes should be broken in.
This was helpful! Is there a more recent one?

Thanks for the unbiased tips, I was getting confused exactly due to what you were saying regarding the sponsors. I am opting for the Salomon Speedcross 5 Trail shoe. What do you think?
@mrdude3523

He was referring to sponsors of the websites putting out articles on the best gear/shoes to wear for OCR. There is a likelihood that those sponsors are being promoted in the articles purely because they are sponsors rather than the editor truly believing that the gear/shoes are truly the best to buy.

Don't think too much on the goofiness added to your videos. I only saw that mostly from your clips and few humorous quips you add into your explanations. Otherwise, everything else was good straight-talkin' advice. I completely agree on having no gloves.

Personal question: dry wicking shorts yes, but what about underwear? Being wet, I've chaffed my thighs from underwear jockies bunching up. Thoughts?
@Dusticron

2 thoughts come to mind. First, compression underwear. But not a very strong compression. say not very strong because it may impact your stride, or in my case introduce psychological doubt. The second, this just Jeff posing as Matt in another in a long line of feeble attempts to get my underwear. If it is scenario 1, I hope it helps. If it is scenario 2, nice try Jeff.

Thank you, your video validates my first impressions. Did you also try a camel bag? Based on your experience, what is the best way to bring water with you?
@Dusticron
5 жыл бұрын
With the sprints, just make sure you properly hydrated beforehand. I drink a lot of pedolyte the week of; and I never stop for water during the race. However, with any race with more distance, I would recommend camelback product. You will, however, need to get creative with how you keep the part you drink out of clean.

Also, with the hoist, is it an issue with your grip. If so, there is a bit of strategy. Some of the ropes for the hoist are slicker than others. If people are in front of you actively doing the hoist. Go to the one that finishes the fastest because chances are you will have more grip on that rope than the others.

All shoes will hold water. Synthetic shows will hold less. It's science not anecdotal. You clearly missed the point. Train to where it doesn't matter if your shoes weigh 10 oz or 10lb. But, hey, thanks for the nonsense.
