Love this so much! I’m 52 and will run my first one in Oct 2022 in Grandbury Texas. Part of the process is losing more weight. I’ve never been an athlete on any level so this is a massive step for me! Appreciate you both and thoughts and you guys are awesome!!

Wow, that is really inspiring! I hope you do really well on your race. My parents just recently did their first race too in their early 60s. They felt like it was a great motivator to get into better shape too and had an incredible time doing a Sprint. Let us know how your race goes, we'd love to hear how it goes!

Here are some things that stood out to me in your Spartan Race video that are very applicable to learning ASL. 1) Make a plan to practice and put time and energy into it. 2) Have FUN. Enjoy it and enjoy the people you train with and encounter. 3) Don't just think about it and talk about it....take steps to DO IT. 4) Research and figure out what you need to know to properly learn and train. 5) Persevere, even when it doesn't seem like you're making as much progress as you would like. Encourage others, and let others encourage you. Thanks, Chris and Johnni!

This vid earned my sub! I'm 43 with two boys. 18 and 10. I'm overweight probably 60lbs. I have bad shoulders and knees from years of electrical work. Stress in the last 2 years has been rough. But we all 3 signed up 2 nights ago for our first Spartan. I'm hoping to get in shape in the next 6 months enough to complete. This video put a lot of my concerns to rest. It was quite informative and helpful. Thanks!

Hey dude - three years ago I was 304lbs, nowadays I’m 226lbs. I’ve done a few 5-7km obstacle course races here in Scotland in the last year or so and am now working up to a 21km race next January, also got a 10km in September. I’ve had problems with calf injuries, a pretty bad ankle injury, but be largely consistent (being good 95% of the time is good enough) and have a goal to work towards and you’ll get there. I see you posted this a year ago - how are you getting on? Hope all is good 👍💪

@Matt-yw8tj Well, about 3 weeks before the spartan race, I ended up with A bad plantar faciitis injury from running and trying to get in shape for it. We still went! My young son was in the kids and my oldest son ran right with me. It was very difficult, more than what I expected. I wasn't able to complete a lot of the obstacles. But we completed and got our medals! Was very proud of us! Since then I've been battling this foot injury and it has really slowed me down in working out and I've not lost much more weight, unfortunately. But I've been trying to cut carbs and eat more protein. Good luck on your big race, just be sure to keep stretching the calfskin so you don't get this miserable faciitis!

Hello, amazing video, im doing spartan race from 2016, got some trifectas. One thing that surprised me most is that you can split burpees between your mates. Here in Slovakia, as volunteers we are taught that racers cannot do that. But i think that it is great thing to do especially when you are running with someone who is running their first race. Cheers to the future :)

The biggest tip for me is try and improve your grip strength. practice hanging off things, chin up bars, outdoor climbing frames, what ever you can. You see people do it and it looks easy, but if your quite big like me it's hard to hold your own weight for a long time.

I was gonna do my trifecta this year but I had an accident on the Spartan Sprint back in April. On the top of the inverted wall I slipped and all my weight came crashing down on my bicep. They impact tore my short head bicep off the tendon and off the long head. Had to have surgery. They sewed my short & long head biceps back together and anchored it back to the bone. I'm over 10wks post op now. Messed my whole year up for racing. At least I had already gotten 2 other OCR races in before then this year.

So sorry to hear about your injury, surgery is never fun. Prior to this years races, last year I had knee surgery in January and then suffered a spinal injury in March that nearly paralyzed me. Keep up the hard work and I'm sure you'll be racing again in no time!

How many months do I need to train before my first race? I'm 54 and have been weight training and doing cardio for 7 years now. I consider myself to be in very good shape.. Thanks.

First, congrats on wanting to do a Spartan race at 54, that’s awesome 👏 In regard to training, you are probably fit enough for the race with all of the cardio and strength work you’ve done over the years, but you may want to try doing things like rope climbs or sled pulls to train your grip strength. Personally, the more prepared you go into the race the better your experience will probably be, so at a minimum a month or two would be good. We hope you have a great race!

This race took us about 2 and a half hours, including filming. However, the finish time can vary greatly depending on where you’re at (and to an extent how many people are on the course)
