ESR Rebound 360 Keyboard Case for iPad Pro 11: A Great Bargain Alternative to Apple's Magic Keyboard

Ғылым және технология

Looking for a quality keyboard case for your new iPad Pro 11 inch, and don't want to pay the crazy high prices for the Apple Magic Keyboard Case? The ESR Rebound 360 Keyboard Case is much cheaper than the Magic Keyboard, has almost all the same features, and even has some that the Apple Magic Keyboard lacks. I'm reviewing the 2022 version here, but ESR also has one for the 2024 iPad Pro 11 inch (affiliate): amzn.to/3UPC9G3
00:00 Introduction
00:31 2 areas where the Magic Keyboard Case is better
02:02 Cantilever design
02:15 Portrait and landscape positions
02:54 Inner case for iPad Pro
03:46 Keyboard and trackpad features
04:49 Magnetic closure
05:08 Apple pencil storage loop
05:56 Pricing, colors and where to buy
Pros:
* Lower price
* Inner case for the iPad Pro to provide greater protection for your iPad Pro
* Ability to use your iPad in both portrait and landscape modes
* Two height choices for landscape mode: regular and elevated
* Same cantilever design as Apple Magic Keyboard Case, with adjustable viewing angles.
* Responsive keyboard and trackpad.
* Long battery life: one year in standby mode, and a few weeks to a few months if used a few hours a day, depending on how much the keyboard backlight is used.
* Strong magnets hold the iPad Pro securely in portrait, landscape and elevated landscape positions
* Secure storage loop for Apple pencil or other digital styluses.
* Easy Bluetooth pairing
* Auto sleep/wake
* Backlit keyboard, with various levels of brightness
* Trackpad supports multi touch gestures
* Magnetic strap to hold the Rebound 360 case securely closed (unlike the Apple Magic Keyboard Case, which has no closure mechanism).
Cons:
* Requires periodic charging via the included USB-C cable, as opposed to Apple's Magic Keyboard Case, which draws its power directly from the iPad Pro and thus never needs charging.
* Heavier than the Apple Magic Keyboard Case, due to the inner case and battery which the Apple Magic Keyboard Case lacks.
The Rebound 360 Keyboard Case for iPad Pro 11 Inch is available directly from ESR as well as from Amazon. I reviewed the 2022 version, but ESR has a version of the Rebound 360 Keyboard Case for the new 2024 iPad Pro 11 as well. The Rebound 360 Keyboard Case comes in two colors: the black version shown in this review as well as a white version and it is priced at $119.99. Many thanks to the kind folks at ESR for sending me out this sample to review!

    That's a great question, @Striker8- and I don't have an answer for you. Hopefully it would...ESR offers a one year warranty on their products and I believe you can extend it to 24 months if you register your product online with them. The fact that they offer a long warranty period theoretically means that they expect the products to last as least as long as the warranty period, I think...

    Unfortunately, that USB-C port on the ESR Rebound 360 is only for charging the keyboard itself. You can't use it for data transfer. Also, unlike the USB-C port on the Apple Magic Keyboard, it won't do pass through charging for the iPad Pro...the only thing you are charging with that USB-C port is the keyboard battery. With the Apple Magic Keyboard, the USB-C port will do pass through for the iPad Pro, but it won't work for data transfer either.

    It can…kinda…but its magnets aren’t as strong as some of ESR’s other cases. I’m not entirely confident that the inner case of the Rebound 360 won’t start slipping on a fridge after awhile. The inner case of ESR’s Shift case, on the other hand, is rock solid when you attach it to a metal fridge. Super strong magnets. And yeah…a kickstand would be a nice addition, but it would add thickness to the inner case, I think.

  • @TheTechReviewer

    Hi! I don't think the inner case is particularly heavy...the vast majority of the weight comes from the Keyboard Case itself. However, depending on the model, it is possible to use the Keyboard Case without the inner case (ie with a naked iPad Pro). But this does not work with the 2024 M4 iPad Pro version...just the 2022 iPad Pro 11 version, as far as I know. Not sure about any other versions, as those are the only two Rebound 360 Keyboard Case versions I have tried. Hope this helps!

    Yes! Sorry, I should have addressed that in the video. It will work, but you won't be able to do all the fancy stuff with the elevated landscape mode and the vertical portrait mode. But for basic landscape mode use, you can use the Rebound 360 Keyboard Case with a naked iPad. The magnetic connection will be good, but not quite as strong as the connection when you are using the inner case that comes with this keyboard case system.

    Having just received an ESR rebound keyboard for 13” iPad Pro, a couple of comments: 1) nowhere yet have I seen a review that shows the latest keyboard, and that now includes an extra row of function keys above the row of numerics. Big plus, works very well & no longer requires all those fn key combinations to do obvious things. but 2), very odd. The other ESR magnetic case magnets (Rebound & Shift) are not compatible with the Rebound keyboard. I’d thought that ‘magnets should be magnets’, but no, none of the magnetic sleeves are interchangeable. My intended use was to have the iPad on the keyboard when needed for obvious reasons, but is still a little bulky /top heavy for other casual use like watching tv on the couch or in bed & where a small kick stand would be useful to prop up instead of always have to hand on to the iPad. But no, I cannot simply swap the magnetic sleeve from one to the other. Magnets are exclusive to the device. How weird & seems like a design oversight, surely,

    Hi @profdraper! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the new 13 inch 2024 iPad Pro ESR Rebound 360 Keyboard model. So great to hear that there are dedicated function keys on the 13 inch model...I'm jealous! I got the 2024 iPad Pro 11 inch model of this product a couple of days ago, and am currently working on the review, but I can tell you that ESR did not make that extra function key row update to the 11 inch model. My guess is that they had extra space on the 13 inch model of the keyboard case, so the extra row was easier to implement. I'm loving the dedicated function key row on the new Apple Magic Keyboard...just wish the ESR version had it. But it is a great keyboard case for the price. There are a few ways in which the Apple Magic Keyboard is clearly superior, but it's questionable as to whether the big price difference is justified. As for the lack of compatibility between the various ESR case and keyboard case models, I completely sympathize. Like you, I would have thought that 'magnets are magnets', but that is not the case. This was true for all the 2022 iPad Pro 11 cases I had, and it is proving true for all the 2024 iPad Pro 11 inch accessories I have experienced so far as well. Very frustrating!
