ESPN's College Football FPI Rankings: Here's What They Missed
Спорт
ESPN's College Football FPI was released yesterday, and their rankings appear to have missed a lot of important information and variables, just judging by some of the power rankings and values assigned to various teams. I believe Ohio State Football, Michigan Football, Nebraska Football, Missouri Football, Michigan State Football, and the Miami Hurricanes are examples of teams that I think are ranked too low by FPI. On the flip side, Tennessee Football, Texas Football, Oklahoma Football, and the Oregon Ducks are teams that I think are either majorly overrated, or I at least question their high placement. We talk about all of this and more in this episode of College Football with Sam. Make sure to comment so I can interact with you and answer any questions you have!

Tennessee is solid in the trenches on both sides of the ball, with arguably one of the best players in James Pierce and a 5 star qb. Not to mention a stadium that gives them a 7pt swing on homefield advantage. I have zero problems with them in the top ten.

@tyrenny10 news flash. Nebraska would have been in the same boat with Bo. Dude could not recruit and did ok in a much worse B1G conference. The loses he did take were blow out loses. He found Little success afterwards. He was not the answer.

Thank you for seeing what I am seeing! Last year's 15-20 range teams are viewed about as strong as this year's 7, 8, 9, and 10 teams, which is just nuts. This is going to be a season where almost every team has two losses or the game is so heavy that there are almost 10 P4 teams with only one loss or fewer (like last year, as a season where everyone is up will mimic one where everyone is down, at least by wins and losses). I think there will be more losses and upsets inflicted though compared to last season.

@@chasejackson7248The SEC has some really good teams at the top, but the middle of the pack teams seem to get way overrated due to this. Last year was a good example. The SEC really wasn’t amazing, and their out of conference record helped show this. But since it’s the SEC, some teams were ranked much higher than they should have been. An easy example is Florida. They were awful, yet they ranked higher than some teams who were noticeably better, including Utah. Utah had not only the same record, but they beat Florida head to head. You could argue they had better quality wins as well. You see this every year, and people will still find a way to defend these rankings.

I'm a Michigan fan who graduated from BYU. As such I'm curious what you meant with your inflection, almost surprised sound at BYU's ranking. Too low, too high?
Why does Penn State deserve such a high ranking? They were beat handidly by Ole Miss last bowl season. And I would argue Ole Miss added more immediate talent this offseason who will be able to contribute this season. It's a given that James Franklin's teams can't keep up in a shootout. I'm tired of his teams getting automatic top 10 rankings by default. He loses the big games and is a guarenteed 1st rd loss in the CFP. Please stop the Penn State hype until they earn it.
Nebraska hasn’t deserved hype in 7 years. They’ll deserve it when they actually earn it on the field. Stop the false narrative and giving false hope to a delusional and desperate fanbase for clicks.

The formula is simplistic (that word doesn't mean _pleasingly simple_ kids, it means _too simple_ ). I think Wisconsin at 39, beneath a quite decimated Oregon State, is rather egregious. Colorado is overrated, Utah is very underrated.

I'm not sure you actually have paid close attention to what Oregon has brought in this year. I dont expect Gabriel to play at quite the level of Nix, but Oregon is deeper than last year everywhere else excep O-line, where they should be about the same.
The FPI is a lot better at predicting the games. I think it’s better than Vegas closing lines
Michigan and Alabama WILL NOT FALL OFF. i agree with you. And Tennesse is the most overrated team in cfb history

While I think Nico Iamaleava (I hope I spelled his name correctly) will be good, I do not think Tennessee has the talent + development at the majority of their positions to be a Top 10 team. Alabama and Michigan will be better than most people expect.

Michigan should have hired dabo swinney and got Brian ferentz for the oc (joking)
FPI has always been laughable. It's a very flawed algorithm. At the end of the regular season, it ranked Ohio State higher than Michgan, AFTER undefeated Michigan beat OSU.
Dude stop hyping Michigan up. Yes they have a stud defense, but THAT'S IT. Edwards is a fine RB, but he won't carry the entire offense. They lose too much on that side, plus their head coach to the point they'll need time to reconstruct. Orji hasn't thrown a SINGLE PASS in his whole time at Michigan. The o-line loses a ton. The receiving room loses a bit. And the defense didn't even remain untouched. They lost some good players. Probably 10-2 at best. They're also not making the Big 10 title, silly goose. I get you're a U-M fan, but please set you're expectations at a reasonable level.
I seem to remember their FPI had OSU #1 last year & they loved the Buckeyes ? -- Perhaps it's better for the Buckeyes to be an underdog ? - - - And just wait until they play ! 🤔
You don't pay attention to oregon lol
Agree 💯
College football predictions are less accurate than your local weather forecast. They are right not even half the time. The last 3 years prove that as fact! Bias comes into play every time.

Michigan State has an elite coaching staff? Are you on crack Sam?
@Oziot

Well, it’s certainly a better overall coaching staff than MSU had before, but I agree, I think it’s too early to classify them as “elite.” And I say that as an MSU fan. But I think that the staff has the potential to be great to near-elite sooner rather than later, as most of the members have a track record of success as coaches at prior stops, whereas before, that was not the case.
