Along with the total absence of red card while being the team with the most fouls in that WC (100!) and also the team that displayed the most unsportsmanlike behaviors (cf. @@RobertSmith-up9rz That's slander. They should sue you. Where do you get the 100 fouls? Are you a ref? What most unsportsmanlike behaviour? The Dutch were swarming the Argentines, esp. during the penalty shoot. It was a very heated game and both were unsportsmanlike. Where do you want a red card? And where v France? The Argentine team was the best. They hadn't lost a match since 2019, 36 matches (except for the Saudi game, an iffy one, later they found that one offside wasn't, but too late to change it). No other team, including France, had an unbeaten record. You're just a hater.

Emi Martinez's save on Kolo Muani. I can't dread to think what might have been had that gone in. And of course, my man lifting the trophy with Peter Drury's poetic commentary. 👏👏

My team was not in the final, but these pundits need to rewatch that 1st half, the ref was really bad. I was dissapointed with the Argentinian squad except Messi, due to their simulations,and the dumb ref bought all the simulations done by them. They act like tough guy with their tattoos. Etc but then, they proceed to go down too too easily with the extra sauce of acting dramatically for every small contact with the opponent especially when France got the ball. Thank God he seems to review back all his bad calls stopping the game flow due to simulations in the 1st half during the break, and no more easy foul calls for every time Argentina player goes down in 2nd half. Happy for Messi winning the WC, but those tattooed players acting tough guy, but then proceed with multiple simulation, crying like a bith* everytime he made small contact with the opponent are just not to my taste.

I never thought I would see a better world cup than 2002 when I saw my favorite player growing up (Brazilian Ronaldo) make the greatest redemption story. BUT THIS is BY FAR the greatest World Cup Ive seen. I remember even in the group stages everything was on a knife's edge. Even the group stages were so close and from minute to minute the standings changed where one team was on the side of elimination or qualification into the knock outs. But being the biggest Messi fan this was the most special moment. The emotions and the drama. I think I came close to having a few heart attacks, particularity the game against the Netherlands and especially the final vs France. I actually teared up when him and Argentina finally won it. Months later I am still taking everything in. Its one of those moments that I will never forget where I was and what I felt. I have never seen a player like Messi in my life and I rooted for him like I was Argentine myself.

Last year he won Bench D'Or for scoring 1 goal in 14 starts out of 23 matches played and it was a penalty and before that season he scored 24 goals against Norwich City and Brentford while stat padding and scoring 0 goals 0 assists against Man city or liverpool and won Garbage D'Or . Then blamed multiple coaches + teammates + ex teammates with Interview D'Or. Now won Rejection D'Or playing in ranked 70 farmers league for money while telling people he doesnt play for money.

@@RobertSmith-up9rz Agreed. Take away the "Ronaldo's redemption" story from 2002 and it was a below average WC. Top contenders like France, Argentina and Italy were eliminated in the group stages or rd of 16. Italy was likely cheated and robbed in that match against South Korea. The level of football wasn't great. And 2010 was even worse. Again many top contenders put in poor performances. And those Vuvuzelas were so annoying to listen to, just obnoxious noise ruining the atmosphere. Also the Jabulani ball was one of the worst footballs in modern history.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Probably not my favorite moment, but Aboubakar’s goal, celebration, and the referee’s reaction was very wholesome, especially as someone rooting against Brazil. Aboubakar had a great tournament, and provided one of the most underrated performances of the tournament against Serbia, in a very entertaining game. It just felt satisfying.

Messi has had the Maradona pressure since that Ankara goal back in the day. Hailed as Maradona's successor even by Maradona himself and even with all the losses he still came back to try and win with Argentina and that takes a lot of mental strength!!!

My favourite moment was the penalty kick that made Argentina winners. Especially when reports came out that Messi looked up moments before Montiel scored and whispered 'It could be today, grandma.' Very touching.

Yeah. They had to win or they were out. I was afraid the Argentines would crucify Messi if the team couldn't even get out of the group stage. I thought I was going to have a heart attack, bc they couldn't get through the packed defensive crouch. Then came Messi's incredible surreptitious goal which nobody was ready for. I could finally breathe. Some of the others were like that too. The game v the Dutch and of course the final. I'd never been so excited by a WC.

This was more of a messi wc. Messi's goal against Mexico. His pass in the quarter final against the Netherlands, his one on one against gvardiol, and finally, messi lifting the WC. Not the best wc if you compare it to the likes of 2002/2006 but definitely a memorable one to remember for ages

I've been in love with him for over two years when I really discovered him. Yes,I know I've been living under a rock. I watched videos of young Messi and was floored. What a genius! Best player I've ever seen. And I watched Pele live in Washington D.C.when the NY Cosmos came down for an exhibition match. I took it for granted that Pele was the GOAT. But Messi convinced me that he is. He gives me a fine champagne high and makes me want to cry. All at once. And his character, it's so moving.

After 90 minutes the game is over. then 30 minutes get added on because a winner needs to be decided. and after those 30 minutes. the game is over and If still tied. There is a Penalty shootout. Also if you include the penalty shootout goals as part of the Final, then Messi scored a hatrick in the final as well.

Sucks Deschamps took off his other big name players to give Mbappe the light to shine as he's definitely in the next world cup and a couple more. Griezmann was definitely one of the most instrumental players in that world cup and qualifiers and in other competitions prior in 2020 and 2021. Taking off Griezmann has never been Ideal for France, as the team doesn't win without him! Shame Deschamps wanted to fuel Mbappe's ego to get the best out of him. Ultimately he didn't work.

he didn't take them off to give mbappe the limelight or fuel ego- HE TOOK THEM OFF TO GET IN THE GAME. The subs Deschamps made at the 40 minute mark is what brought them back in the game, at that point it was not about who had the bigger name it was about what Deschamps could do different to give them a fighting chance, its what won them that first penalty and raised them out of the dead. I will agree that the lack of experience is what came back to bite in the penalty shoot out but regardless the men he subbed on helped France to make their comeback.

Mbappé's performance was much better, as evidenced by the amount of goals and assists. Messi wouldn't be in the conversation but for the 5(!) penalties Argentina was very generously given (on top of the grotesque pro-Argentina referring).
