ESP32 Project: How to control AC bulb or load using Relay over WiFi

Ғылым және технология

This tutorial shows you how to turn ON and OFF AC load such as fan or bulb over Wifi using your mobile phone or computer by utilizing ESP32 Microcontroller module. Step by step project is explained, wiring is explained, code is fully explained and at the turning the AC bulb is demonstrated on desktop and mobile phone. This a great home automation project.

New to programming and wanted to thank you for the video. Takes me 1 step closer to my "goal" project. I wonder, do you take requests? I would love to learn how to take this 1-2 steps further and make the on/off a time based function, and how to alter those time in a menu. My final idea is larger than this, but as of now, I've not seen 1 tutorial online on how to do this....

I have NODE MCU esp 32 wroom devkitv1 . It has no 5v output. (Only one 3.3v output) if I connect relay module eith external 5v power source and connect only the data pin with ESP 32 board, will my relay work? Will the ESP32 burn? I understand that the above question can be answered if I knew 1. Relay connected with just an external power source (no pins even data is connected with esp 32 board). What is the voltage reading of data pin of relay? [ I believe it should be 0, since this is just a triggerer] 2. Now I have connected relay module's data pin with ESP32's any data pin and relay's power is again given from external source. Will the ESP32 be able to trigger relay now? Please answer I am having hard times.

Hello, I 'm not sure to properly understand, at 1:40 you mean than one is a 5V electromagnetic relay, while the other is optocoupler which may either switch on 5V or 3.3? Additionnaly, you mean than eventhough if one binds to VIN(5V), the switch is powered at 5V, but its logic still needs 5V but the board only delivers 3.3V and so the HIGH status is unreliable? Interesting, but then what's the use of having a 5V VIN??

@@robojax Ah! Thanks, I have a 5v coming. I have a device that turns on a 12v fan that I'm hoping to use an an input signal to an esp32 to then trigger it to send out a low power bluetooth beacon of 'on' for a second esp32 to sense and have it trigger on a relay. If the ESP32 can drive a 5v relay that gives me more options. So many of the relays I have found on Aliexpress and Amazon use a shared power source for the trigger voltage AND the relay coil voltage. I don't want to pull enough current from the trigger to drive the relay, just to signal a data 'high' to tell the relay to turn on. Seems like that must not be a common use case from the sheer volume of 'maker' relays I've seen online that use the shared input design. Thanks!

You are welcome.Yes if you get relay module that has driver on PCB they need very little current. So you should be okay. Stay safe and don’t forget to subscribe.

Hi, no you can’t . This just in your own network. If you want it from outside home, they searching for “how connect to my home computer over internet “ and if you solve that, then you can do the same with this internet of things IoT.
