Yet, he`s got his signature. And for the company it`s a clever move. Just like Matt Freeman`s signature. Mostly younger people would listen to their music and maybe could afford the second lines instead of the main ones.

I would bet he is referring that in some songs with different speed you can benefit from a different sound. It happens with all tracks in the mix. It's not the same to compress or gate fast drums than slow ones. In punk guitars, for instance you may prefer to sound a little clearer when playing fast riffs so they dont get muddy, but when you slow down sometimes you feel like something is missing. That's why some bands (Nofx, Pulley, etc) record some medium tempo with a fuzz instead of the same distortion from the other songs in the record. This guitar sounds cool to me in this video (guess the amp helps a lot), it's sharp and spiky and dirty and muddy at the same time, like some of the songs from Rancid's albums.

I come back every now and then to this video because i LOVE the tone. Fuck the opinion of anyone. I am one of the wider music lovers you can find, i love any kind of music and any type of guitar tone. And any kind and style of punk and hardcore style. This video is a beautiful raspy muddy punk tone. It's not heavy metal, it's not prog stuff, it's not clean melodic punk pop. There are tons of punk bands that sound like this. If you are not in that scene, well you are missing it and if you dont like it, to each their own. The thing about Lars not being a great shredder means nothing. He is a punk rocker and that's it. Zero problem.

Green Day not punk?!? You must've started listening after Dookie … but even then, punk is not about a sound - it's about doing whatever the fuck you want without caring about the fallout. Green Day and Rancid proved that not all punk has to be based on Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys ...

I disagree heavily with ur Green Day point. No offense, but Green Day was more a punk band that played pop-ish music, hence why it’s called pop punk... rancid is more a gutter punk band, but still very very good! I love both bands, but a lot of Green Day’s stuff pre 21ST century breakdown is definitely punk, at least pop punk.

The LTD costs choose to a grand new, probably more after tax. The LTD signatures are on par with the LTD deluxe series, which are great. But since they bumped the prices after ESP's most recent company reworking I just think they're stretching it these days. I mean fender has the EOB strat which has a fernandes sustainer, Schecters with the same option and more, Jackson's have top quality x series for 600 - 1099. Even Epiphone has sort of been giving supreme bang for buck. ESP are an amazing brand and I've always sworn by them but they may want to consider stepping it up for 2018. The prototypes look legendary for sure.

That being said, its a cool looking guitar, Im just not sure what market its for? personally, were I in the market for an ESP guitar, Id be looking for a metal machine with locking tuners and an evertune bridge. Punk rock never had a dedicated guitar brand/style IMO. I get a crunchy punk tone mainly through my amp so yeha.. a punk artist model guitar doesnt interest me in aany way.

Don’t hate the tone, but the main issue I have is that he said you won’t lose any tone when you play any tempo, you don’t lose any tone regardless what tempo you’re playing in. Another thing I have an issue is that he said that the neck is really fast, no your hand is playing fast, not the neck. Lot of people hate the tone, but I guess it’s more for those people who like punk, so I see why he has that tone. That’s where most people argue about, the one who talks trash about it are most likely prog metal fans like me who like tighter and noise gated guitar rhythm tone instead of a guitar that has gain all the way to 10 as well as treble if that’s how you get a punk tone, they don’t realize that these two genre are way different from each other and we should stop trashing about his tone if we clearly don’t know this genre.

"Another thing I have an issue is that he said that the neck is really fast, no your hand is playing fast" Usually when guitarists say this, they mean that the finish on the back of the neck is smooth.

If you play fast all the time, usually you will end up with a clear distortion, for speed muds all the thing up. Then when you have a midtempo song, you may feel a lack of intensity. Sometimes you can play distortion for fast and fuzz for slow, for it fills the sound better. I believe he was probably referring to that aspect.

Lars is one of the most important Punk Rock guitarist in the history of Punk Rock world wide. He has a style heavily inspired by early Punk and is one of the tightest players in the scene. Rancid being some of his best work. The guitar is cool, but when I saw it on the ESP site and I was kind of lack luster about it. Larz has never sold out, but ESP is the broke musicians saving grace and a signature model pays the bills for an artists endorsement. It's a cool axe, but it kind of doesn't suit Larz. He's always been an Epiphone LP player. Epiphone is where the rebels go and as an Epiphone LP player myself I can attest to the quality and the sound of an Epiphone guitar. Amazing.

Very true. I think I was trying to stay in his age group. I left out Johnny Ramone for sure. I am way more an early Misfits, the Exploited, DK, Black Flag kind of listener. I'm not a punk rocker per say. I'm a Metal Head. Rancid and the Ramones are a much happier punk than the Ramones in my opinion, but very important to the scene. I can give you history on metal all day, but not on Punk. I also mispell even when I have spell check so that makes me twice as retarded.

Johnny The Fish same here, got use to the tight djent tone that this tone is off putting for me, got no hate for it though. His tone is basically for this type of genre, get fixated with one genre that you get used to that tone of your favorite genre. I don’t consider djent to be a genre before anyone come ranting to me thinking that I’m one of those who believe djent is a genre.
