The ruinstorm rules really need to be released asap after the esoterist is available to order (if not before).

I really felt that backlog part you were talking about. So this year I took it upon myself to not buy any models until i've finish my entire collection, fully painted and based. Its really hard at first but if you kept on thinking about the simple fact that you prob wont be able to finish anything, It really motivates you to just simply grab the brush and start painting. keep up with the videos dude, cheers.

I feel the same Macca, everytime someone mentions an issue with hh or one of the other systems and I say its gws fault its like I just stabbed a puppy and I am tired of getting so lambasted for having some common sence/scrutiny

Some true words are being spoken at the end there. I've recently reined in my spending, I feel better about my hobby because of it. These models will be here in 6 months or 12 months time or whenever you may decide to purchase them sensibly. It doesn't have to be tomorrow.

I fully agree that the healthiest thing for none-FOMO releases is to put it in the cart for a month and just wait and see

Really a shame about the bikes. Wanted to put together a small patrol size force for WS ever since I read Scars and Path. Unfortunate. I'm still uneasy about mk6. Really goes to show that for almost 4-5 months after release the old mk4s and especially mk3s were out of stock. Some armies just look and feel better in the older marks, and one of the draws of the original system was that you could theme an army around it being great crusade era. I'm kind of hesitant about the idea of assault and despoiler Marines now because should they even release them they're probably just going to be in 6 anyway. But I am still very salty about the militia rules. I took the time to piece together and print an air assault themed army using the old rules as a template. There's no guarantee they'll ever even release the rules despite the fact that the new Cadian release would have benefited from it. Even when they do it'll probably just be a half-assed job resulting in an unplayable army. Guess I have plenty of time to finish painting though.

This is why I quit when I heard 2.0 was coming out. I know how mainline GW operates and I want nothing to do with it. Now FW when Alan was running the heresy was a golden age for content, models, rules, expanded background. RIP Mr Bligh The reason people don't speak up is the sunk cost fallicy I believe. Most of my group said they would stay 1.0 but two people talked the rest of the group into 2.0 so most of them switched over. I quit and sold my army except for my titans. Most GW customers have total Stockholm syndrome, just be thankful you got anything for Heresy. Just be thankful they are releasing plastic kits....that are more expensive then the resin FW models (unless you live in the UK rest of the world got a major price jack up especially Canada and Aussieland). Sadly I LOVE the fluff of the early imperium, the Great Crusade and the Heresy. So I like keeping my eye on stuff but I have no issues pointing out the flaws. Great analogy with the gambling addict. "Plastic Crack Addiction" isn't a joke. I've seen some horror stories in my time working there. I had a guy who every week would come in on WED (stock day) spend about a grand on stuff in front of everybody being the big man. Then over the next week he would return about 70% of the stuff with some sob story about bills, food, kids stuff, house payments. There are many many many stories out there among ex GW employees. I feel like I'm the type of person you're talking about. I got the start collecting tau box and 8th edition codex a couple years ago but a lot of problems came up in my life and I couldn't paint them, I only primed some of them. I finally got to a point where I could actually paint some and before I knew it I had bought a secondhand squad of fire warriors and a ghostkeel set off ebay. I hadn't even finished priming the models I had (though they're done now.) Before they even shipped I saw the Angron model and just couldn't stop myself from buying it since he's my favorite Primarch (got from a store's ebay shop though, no way am I buying direct from GW.) I bought a new lamp because I had given the old one I have to my mom for her sewing, and a wet pallet since I can't thin paints for shit and thought it'd help. I really like painting though. Fantasy and 40k have been a part of my life for a really long time. I think my mom first bought me the fantasy starting box of dwarves vs night goblins when I was 10. Somewhere around there. I've been reading 40k lore online for almost as long. I really hate... basically everything GWs done to their products but I just can't bring myself to give up on it.

the whole rant part at the end motivates me to finish up my backlog, keep up the good work and the good rants.

Absolutely agree, it takes me ages to think what do I actually need for my army. I also make sure I have a cutting of point too. Like do I want a 3000 pt army like my crimson fists or 1000 pts for my knights (both are built and being painted as I type) then never spend a penny more. I was looking at the jet bikes for my death guard and thematically they dont fit. Which is ironic as the dg reaction suits them with the 4+ fnp. Still waiting on the Daemons rules that were supposed to be out in December. Militia player in my play group is still waiting for the militia pdf that was supposed to be out in October. So, I built Word Bearers to play in the meantime. It's an odd feeling for a finished army to feel like a pile of shame.

You know what's weird? There's several tier ranking lists that put the White Scars at the top or near to. They do so based almost singularly on the strength of the Chorgorian Brotherhood Rite of War and the strength of jet bikes. I find that odd, but nevertheless, apparently making jetbikes scoring and a +1 movement is all jetbikes need to make they top tier :)

@@aidanquiett668 No, pretty sure I'm not, they are blatantly broken and OP this edition, with every tool provided being in the upper tiers for that category, with 3 Rites of War to some Legions 1 and their Rites actually make their elite units scoring troops with little to no downsides. Those who are losing with Imperial Fists are likely taking only the weaker stuff going against players with stronger lists, or they are poor players going up against great players. People who take optimised Imperial Fists lists should be wining the majority of their matches.

I agree. With my IF army I am now struggling to put together an army list that would be balanced enough to have equal games with my local heresy community. Even without the Rogal Seagal Dorn, Sigismund, 3+ inv shields or Stone Gauntlet+Fafnir Rann bulshit, they are still very, very strong, to the point it's not fun (for both sides of the table top battle). Which means I now have a good reason to get some of these jet bikes and pant them yellow, YAY!

I've wanted these models for years. Finally saved up enough money to buy them in resin and found out they had been "last-chance-to-buyed" :( Will be pre-ordering two boxes from my LGS. Shame about the rules, but I rarely get the chance to play anyway. Just happy they have a plastic kit that looks cool.

Hey Mac, long time listener. My heart broke when they changed the jetbike toughness. I was ready to start a white scars army after doing my iron warriors army. Totally scrapped my bike army idea. I'm still gunna build the white scars army because I've been wanting to for years. I haven't invested much into the army other than primarch and a caestus assault ram for termies. But I have stopped because for obvious reasons just stuck on what to do. I do still plan on getting the golden keshig. What would you suggest for a heavy support and is the destroyers for white scars any good? I'm starting to think bringing jump packs mainly will do better but idk.

Destroyers are good! For heavy support you can use anything if all you have are golden keshig, leshig are great dread killers from what I have seen so focus on a ranged alternate; heavy support with lascannons or missiles maybe? Scars can be run without it being all bikes, mine is roughly 30 jet bikes, 60 assault marines, and 60 infantry (tac 2*10/recon 2*5/tac support 10/heavy support 10) plus my keshigs, hqs, and dreads

When it comes to minis now a days, I always keep it to buying something only when my backlog is mostly clear (IE: I only have maybe a squad in a box or two) and only when I play at my FLGS to give them some money for letting me play and to support them. I have friends that build up backlogs and its very much a thing of "Only get new when my old stuff is painted" And believe me, I'm one of the trash boys in 40k that plays Primaris and most of the time when I see a kit its "Oh, thats neat, I may pick that up to do this dumb list with friends" and I will play terrible units at times just to break them out and do something different. Its also a case of I only buy things with money specifically set aside for 'fun' (IE: Bowling, eating out, video games, etc).

Have you thought about making a video of of the different rules for the different language or print runs?

I’m one of those idiots who buys models just to have them because I don’t view this hobby with the game perspective. I’m more like the model tank and airplane guys. I fell in love with the hobby through the models and the lore behind them. I’ve never had any real interest in the game itself, it’s simply not what I’m into.

Wonder how long it will take them to make some pistol and chainsword arms in plastic. Or some breaching shields finally Also it's saddening how much the community is now split between Mk VI lovers and everyone else. If only marks II through V were also being supported then there would be no need to fight

We do have librarian models for the HH, rubio, amon,sevatar,...an un named one is the librarian in terminator armor ...its not completely generic but it is there. Its what im saying about the tank with part of its hull missing .....people actively encourage it when they accept it .....valdor's cloak is mentally thick as well They will continue to release in mk6 as they think that that is progress as opposed to the progress it would mean for actual HH enthusiasts if we saw the models weve been wanting for years ,,,yes these units are ones that are great to see in plastic to make them cheaper(for now) but not if the mks do not suit the army we have/like

I think i will get some of them, because i am a collector and i dont play any games with any of my models. i think they look nice, even though i would have prefered mark IV.

I hate MKVI because my colour scheme just doesn't work without trims on the shoulderpads

I'm having this issue in the 41st millenium. How do we know which Ultramarine company MKVI dude is in?

I actually like them being solely in fast attack because it's a pretty limited slot. I have a lot jostling for the HS slot.

New character models are the next best thing to ge after melee squads, but they sure picked a weird one too start with. I'd rather see a new Apothecary, or MoS, or Siegebreaker kit. Or maybe an actual Librarian who could optionally be built as this guy. Frankly, I'll be surprised when something other than a legion specific unit *isn't* mark VI is shown. I think the ship has sailed on a generic legion model being revealed and people's reactions being "I can't believe this is also in mk VI, like every other new plastic kit besides tank crews." That doesn't mean people shouldn't express their unhappiness about it, I'm just surprised that people keep being surprised by it.

While I do love the MK6 armor, I do agree there should be more variety. There is hope that the MK2 and 5 are coming this year.

I could always use help looking over my army list no need going out buying models i don´t need. ala sure i would love to use Erasmus Golg or Kyr Vhalen in my army list but the way its structured the would harm it more than help it.

Mk 6 assault marines are coming and while I am excited for plastic assault marines im not ready for them to be mk 6

Bought 4 boxes of jetbikes to make an imperial fist command squad with power lances modeled like Templar. Could’ve at least mentioned those of us forego the power gaming aspect in a narrative driven game to model cool stuff. Also, Sigismund has been my favorite character since I learned of him in the 3rd edition Templar codex and their other lore. So don’t judge on my choice of legion! Lol

Literally one of the biggest complaints Macca has is that they don't fit the narrative. In fact that was his first complaint.

You were thinking of the guard codex during that 8 month period.

With your casting experience, would you say the Esoterist's sleeve is a limitation of the 3D printing process when they're making up the masters, or just laziness? The rubber moulds they use for casting should easily be able to handle hollowed-out sleeves, unless they've switched to solid moulds recently. The older hand-sculpted FW minis had beautiful depth of detail, but parts of this almost look like stuff you'd expect on a Battle for Skull Pass-era GW plastic mini, when they were only just starting out with CAD sculpting. Apart from the right arm area though, I really like the Esoterist. It shouldn't be too hard to make it into a generic Librarian if you want that, too.

They had ways to go about this, EVEN if there was no way to model robes properly in this way, which there is, then they shouldn't model it that way, this screams middle management gave a time constraint and instead of getting a few more days they had to have it done by then so they didn't have time to do what they wanted

Not gonna lie, I wanted to get the new World Eaters stuff mostly because I really liked with it. But, I just looked back at my pile of shame and thought “do I really want to add more? I haven't even finished the Assault Intercessors from the Indomintus box. Hell! I don't even have 2000 points of a single Sororitas Order painted, or even finished my Alpha Legion!” The list of unfinished projects was getting long, and I don't have the time to paint it all. So, I didn't just hold off on them, but I stopped buying new stuff in general. At least until I can get rid of the pile.

@@maliceharding4668 Models are fine, but I already have resin ones myself, it's more just if gaming and not collecting is the end goal, it's a damn let down in their current form, like I won't even bother complaining about the changes to saves or toughness, the simple fact that they can move over like any terrain but can't move over an infantry models is beyond baffling. Easy fix too faq-wise too and they just can't be bothered.

I personally dont like the esoterist and im not sure if being in another mark would fix it for me and i was excited for the jet bikes for my sons of horus. I need some fast attack and i saw some painted up a few months ago, thought they looked awesome. I know they arent good but ill probably never play anyways but now that i know theyre mark 6 ill pass and just 3d print some. I wasnt my soms of horus to be mostly mark 4 and aome mark 2 and 3 and add some mark 5 later

I’ll prob get 2 boxes for my Iron Hands just bc I need some fast armor hunters, plus they regain some of that survivability with the Medusan Scales and if my opponent wants to waste their Str 9 shots at some puddly bikes instead of my Land Raiders then fine by me

12:20 Comparing the Eldar range to the slowness in Horus Heresy releases is not entirely fair. Some of those kits that got replaced were pushing nearly 30 years old, and some of them are *still* not updated. Warp Spiders are old enough to have invested in bitcoin and paid off the mortgage to their 5 mansions in the LA hills by the time they get new kits xD

There's a reason we call it plastic crack. Some people definitely have a problem.

Something you forgot to mention, the esoterist is an option for both loyalist and traitor armies, in the case of a loyalist it gets a power that works against daemons instead of the summoning one. meaning that not only did we get this model instead of a standard librarian, loyalist players still dont have theirs.

I think that the point about the pile of shame is really, really true. I cannot count the number of times Ive seen people post huge hauls (made much worse when the person says that they are just starting out), grey tide armies, and entire walls of boxes from all across the GW range and beyond. If you have a small game store's worth of boxes you have a fucking problem. Its called a pile of shame because at one point it was a POINT OF SHAME and now its somehow turned into internet clout. I have a lot of stuff that I have bought that isnt being worked on. Its a large pile of shame and I feel genuinely bad about it, I dont parade it around. Ive more or less put a moratorium on buying any models unless they are extremely hard to come by. Nothing that is a new release, only if its a really hard thing to find for my oldhamemr army, and even then I hesitate at this point. A while ago now, I saw a video of yours where you said to wait a week and I started doing that. It has helped a lot. I hope more people hear that after this video and take it to heart

Actually, I've been part of them. And that's not their mindset, the more space marines the merrier, they'd agree with you.

I waited 10yrs for plastic jetbikes. Now they're here, they're too big and with mkVI. Lamentations. That is a very apt comparison about problem gambling / dopamine chasing.

I love how they chose the stupidest tallest flight stands and then made it so they can't move over friendly or enemy models. 2.0's rules are hot garbage.

I don't fully agree with you on this take. The bikes are a bit odd yes, but fully viable in White Scars (at the very least a more affordable way to get Golden Keshig). Yes they kinda suck everywhere else, but there's at least a place for them. A well piloted Chogorian Brotherhood is terrifying.q I do think however that it's dumb we don't have new assault marines and Breachers by now. I do however agree that people buy way too easily and get easily swayed by marketing, solution: rule: Buy only new stuff when you've painted your previous purchase.

Edited, read till end: I actually really like this model. (Esoterist) Could be better in mk 2, but i still really like it. I hate too throw a bone too Gw even if its for heresy, but i gotta be honest.😂 EDIT: holy fuck THE SLEEVE...THEY DID ALL OF THAT AND LEFT THE FUCKING SLEEVE UN FINISHED!!!!!?!?!?!??🤮🫵🛑😠

The models are nice I’ll give them that but I would really like a plastic assault squad in mk5 I’ll admit I kinda fell in a pit but I saw my pile of Shame recently and I’m like damn dude seriously chill you got ideas and you got primed minis stick to your minis rn work out what I got and I’ve been doing that taking 3 out at a time and sticking to them then pick out the next it’s a good pace and a good way to eliminate my pile of shame because I use this hobby as a escape to deal with my depression and work out my stuff but I caught myself slipping before it got out of hand

5:30 correction, a lot of people like new shiny things. They don't like MKVI or there would've been more armies of them before it was all GW pushed.

The "best" thing about the bikes as a dark angels player is that mk 6 doesn't make much sense to use(at least in my mind, being on the far rim of the galaxy and all), so if I want mk3 bikers to fit the rest of my army I'll have to buy golden keshig either for just the biker or the full thing, or just say fuck it and 3d print it just to then not be able to use them around certain types of people, it's honestly so disappointing with the bikes that they couldn't find the extra effort to include a tiny bit more sprue with mk4 legs, torso, arms helmet etc and the same for mk3.

As much as I love Mk3 I think it's a little to heavy for Jetbikes. Mk4 looks much more natural on the Jetbikes. Mk6 isn't that bad either. Especially with the Dark Angels who always have access to technologies other legions never dreamed of.

Back in 2d edition, Mark 6 was one of the newest generations of armor, and the Horus Heresy was supposed to have happened hundreds of years back in Mark's 1-3 armor. They had the other armor ranges in the board game boxes, yet they do not seem to have them, anywhere else, unless you sell one of the neighborhood kids.

Nostalgia bait. Gw probably saw people complain about primaris looking too different, and decided to push a design that is classic and familiar.

Although your rant about impulse buying was a bit well... Ranty ich think it's very true. Many companies do this hype marketing, and the hobby always suffers. I don't know how you can get the people to act less stupid, but maybe the community could call the company out and hold them accountable.

I always found the pile of shame trend to be worrying. I never buy new models until Im done with the ones I have, and I try to stick to a project and finish it before starting a new one. These kits are expensive and Im not going to make a purchase unless its meaningful for my project. Not sure how people get sidetracked with new releases so quickly...

Oh their Legion wants to take bikes, but bikes are so bad. Truly a hard time to be Scars.

I liked the follow up video although some of the initial rant in here is kinda punching down there. I think Discourse Miniatures covered it really well in her video on how GW's business practices amd the whole FOMO thing preys specifically on neurodivergent people though. Also I think since for a lot of people the hobby is more about painting and collecting than gaming, it's only a bad decision to buy those jetbikes if you're using gaming to justify their purchase. If you're like "well they're shit in-game but I personally love the models" then providing you have disposable income then good for you.

Weakness runs rampant in our society. Physical weakness, mental weakness, emotional weakness. Most people who think they are fit and strong? Utterly feeble and would break under any actual pressure. People who consider themselves adults because they manage to operate a washing machine and stove? Need actual life advice from a psychiatrist because without an external voice, they can't process the things happening in their daily lives. The emotional weakness is probably the most rampant. How many little-peolple-problems stories do we have to witness on streaming services or in song lyrics where people just endlessly whine and cry about the empty uncuddled hole in their heart. As if that's the peak level of human strife. And if they aren't doing that they are fucking living a slave life in service to some career wife whom they spend most of their evenings with and one if not both weekend days. Utterly mesmerized by the intimacy. Hardly a shadow of their former individual potential is left if it was there at all since nowadays teenagers at the age as early as 14 enter relationships. Which is about as stupid as one can be. And ofcourse all these people consume, accept whatever bullshit crisis is presented to them next and generally create micro drama within their social spheres that distract everyone from doing some actual work. There was never a better time to produce stuff to consume. People will slurp up anything with the funds from their monthly average income coming from their fake job.

Let’s be honest, the reason the pdfs haven’t come out is that we aren’t getting them. Someone in management realized that they could make money off of them so now they are delayed while hardback army books are made. As far as decrying the rules goes, I think a lot of us are saying the same thing. Most of the guys I play with have issues with the rules. The issue is that we are finally getting new players for the first time since the box sets so it’s hard to tell people they shouldn’t be buying into the system.

In fairness though all the models work with 1.0 rules, which are much much better, especially for bikes.

I know a guy like this (and we all do) who has been in the hobby for almost 15 years and does not have a single painted army. When he does get to painting he primes white and does shitty contrast work. He follows a predictable pattern of buying armies straight from GW, not touching them or painting them only a little and then getting rid of them ASAP. If a shiny new box comes out, he’ll put cheap price tags on entire armies and take massive losses just so he can get the box and then repeat the process. I’ve told him what he’s doing is wrong multiple times, and even offered him a reasonable rate to paint his stuff on commission. He agreed at first but flim flammed and gave the reason that his hobby budget monthly is “only” 200$ USD. He then showed me pictures of the next army he was buying and i just stopped talking to the guy. These guys are akin to gambling addicts, always chasing that next army and they end up not having any fun because they never enjoy a fully painted army. The worst part is you are 100% correct, GW knows this and takes full advantage

I agree whit jetbikes in 2.0 is pretty weak, but to be honest in 1.0 they where border lining too good more or less flying terminators whit extra toughness.

@@TheOuterCircle I know the 2 white scars players I know was very glad(well so was I think 90% of rest of players tbh) when it was announced that all tournaments/events would revert back to using 1.0 here in Denmark.

I like the single choice now, at least doesn't bother me that much but they useless anyway in this edition. I gave up my White Scars Project entirely

I'm liking the Esotherist, maybe he's a herald for the deamons to come out soon?

plastic jetbikes really broke people's brains somehow

Constant hype trains is just the way they've gone because they know it works. Once they have your money they couldn't care less if you eat the models or what you do with them. The business model doesn't really support good games because they always will want to add more rather than build on what's already there. Which is part of why LotR is their best game, they ran out of things to add.🤔

We call it plastic crack but there's not enough talk about it being harmful.

The way I see it, this game is still very much in early access. However, with this release pace and balancing, it’s gonna remain a niche time-killer gameplay wise. Maybe GW was worried it would cannibalize 40k, but I wouldn’t spend money on it at all in it’s current state except for hobbying.

So uh what does this rant have to do with jetbikes

I was interested in HH, then 2nd edition drop with Mk 6 retconn and lost all interest. Still want to do a themey HH White scars force but have no interest in playing 2.0. Just like i have no interest in playing 8th or 9th ed of 40k.

A minor lore change made you lose interest in heresy entirely? The changes lore wise between 1 and 2 basically did nothing, and the only real issue is the minor size difference between mk3+4 and 6 now

@@aidanquiett668 your and mine definition of "minor" seems to be quite different. There already has been established lore for Mk 6 that didn't need changing and giving everyone access to Mk 6 armor makes no god damn sense from world building standpoint, defeats the point of the ramshackled MK 5 armor and completely kills legion identity by having them all adopt and wear mk 6. It shows utter disregard for the established canon, in the same way as 40k canon was treated. It shows that there are no stakes nor consequences. Only what kind of Miniatures GW wants to sell. Mind you they could have easily sold MK6 armor without the retconn, just make the box with the Mk6 be Raven Guard vs Alpha Legion and sell the Mk 6 kits as they sold every other mark of armor before. Its not like they are worried about bloat of things they have to produce, they keep making new armies and pointless units, specialist games etc. in basically all their systems with no regard to their actual production capability so thats not it. its quite literally just a marketing stunt. Which just shows how they regard their customers and their product. There is no reason to change the lore in such an extent. I liked the way things were, it was interesting, not perfect by anymeans but this treatment of things has completely alienated me from the entire setting. not to mention the damage the Black library books have done to the Heresy. Thank god i can just ignore them.

@@ravenseeker8267 You know that every legion had access to mk6 before 2.0, right? And mk5 didnt officially exist as an official mark when mk6 was out. Mk5 was a name given to field repaired and modified armor, which then lead to mk6 being renamed and mk5 was sort of kind of produced alongside mk6 as the studded heresy armor

@@aidanquiett668 I am perfectly aware of what mk 5 is, its why i called it "ramshackled". MK 6 was a mark of armor given to the Iron Warriors to test, they hated it and considered it a failiure so they threw it to the Raven Guard and assumed its going to fail, Raven guard liked it and adopted it. Then Heresy started and its production went to shit as a result. Mk 4 was the armor mark replacing Mk3 and 2 and before the Heresy the most numerous and prestigous legions got it, hence why Traitors have it more than Loyalists, since Horus distributed the armor to legions which he knew were in bed with him before he started the heresy. Ofcourse in Black library lore Raven Guard got MK6 during the heresy after the return of corax from Istvaan.

HH 2.0 felt cool at release but now just feels like a supplement to their latest 40k Space Marine units, watch these get a PDF datasheet like the Kratos before HH get any rule changes whatsoever.
