On this My Father Before Me, Brennan and Tory discussed the cult classic John Carpenter film, Escape from New York and Escape from L.A.
Escape from New York was released in 1981 and stars Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, and Ernest Borgnine. The film is set in a fictionalized 1997 United States, where the entire island of Manhattan has been converted into the nations only supermax prison. After the president's plane crash lands, Snake Plissken (Russell) is sent in to retrieve the Commander-In-Chief in exchange for a full pardon, and his freedom.
The sequel, Escape from L.A., takes place in 2013 and sees Russell return as Plissken to retrieve a potentially world-ending device that has been kidnapped by a group of revolutionaries.
