Escape a Heavy Mount in BJJ with a Sweep ( Single X Sweep )

Спорт

Being stuck in the bottom of mount in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu when someone is applying low heavy pressure on you isn't fun. In a lot of cases if someone is very low it can be difficult to set up the proper frames to escape. And the longer they're in the position the worse off you are.
Escaping mount is one of my better areas. Not because I purposely got better at it. But out of necessity. I spent the first several BJJ matches at Black Belt getting swept right into mount and was forced to escape.
The key to my success with mount escapes comes from tight framing, hips and using them together.
In many cases I will see someone use these two elements separately but not always together. Combining the two is a great combination for mount escapes in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
In this video I give a brief rundown of how to use a tight frame even if the person is super low and putting heavy pressure. To the point where it's difficult just to get the frame in the first place.
From there I show how to use the hip drive to get the weight off of you so that you can escape.
Lastly, I show one of my favorite transitions from this BJJ mount escape which is to the single X position and using a sweep. Even if you don't like the sweep I show. The framing tips with the hips are huge.
Learning how to use your forearm and the structure of your body to push comes in handy in those spots where you just don't have a lot of space.
Hope the video is helpful!

Great Video! May I ask, and excuse my ignorance, I’m new, and getting to the position I’m about to talk about may well be too advanced for me, but using the more advanced option, when you undertook his leg and lift his heel to your shoulder, is there a way you can create enough pressure hyperextending that knee that he would tap?

  • @NorthernMtnMan

    @NorthernMtnMan

Yes you can go to leg lock submissions from there. Depends on the competition rules of your sport and belt level what is actually;ly allowed.

This is great, but, what stops the guy on top from choking you out while you're building your frame down at his waist? How do you do this and protect your neck?

Stay active enough to keep them worrying about your escapes. You may have to deal with the setting up chokes while you set up the escape. It's crappy, but that's why being mounted sucks lol

David Madden you want to think you can move your partner but you don’t need to. Really you want to just get wait off the far leg o you can shrimp you butt that way and give room for your knee to sneak in. My coach likes to say “ when you change the oil in your car you don’t bench press the car off of you, you move out from under the car.” It’s less about moving your partner and move about moving yourself. That being said another great mount escape is an elbow escape. It’s a transition that will get you to bottom half guard. Both are escapes I started using by working with a teammate who has 30-35 kg on me.

I have a question. When someone is mounting and having his arm under ur head and hks hooks are under ur butt. When i try to hip escape or elbow escape he goes straight for the ezekiel choke as he already has one lf his arms under my head. I got tapped many times by the same move i would appreciate some feedback. Thanks

This technique doesn't work if the guy is using his weight properly and resisting. What if you are a small guy and he has 100 lbs on you. In the street you get your face punched in for trying this.

This technique works if you're shifting the guys weight properly and using his resistance against him. Especially if you're a big guy and have 100 lbs on him. In a street fight, ask opponent to change into gi. It may not work in a gunfight though. Do you see my point?
