Cadillac now offers the Escalade V, a high performance version of their luxury body on frame old-school SUV. But they aren’t the first to mix these worlds… so we brought the AMG G63 and started a discussion, a disagreement, and an absurd day in the snow.

I'm a biased V-series owner but I can't believe how much I want that Escalade V. It's so preposterous that I can't not love it
I want a G Wagon ...I drive an E 350 wagon and love it. Its timeless, durable, and classy.
I could have NEVER imagine someone could have such a blast with a door slam or the throttle lift-off popping! Those moments were simply hilarious! Thanks for another excellent video, guys!
This G-class might look like the first gen G-class that dates back all the way to 1979 but this second gen is fully new from the ground up. It's not old-school at all. The only three parts from the previous generation which were carried over to the new generation are the headlamp washers, the push-button door handles and the spare wheel cover bolted to the rear tailgate.

and now they added keyless entry!
The Escalade V is a very cool car and a great alternative to a GLS, X7, or a Range Rover. But the G wagon sits in a class of its own in terms of desirability. There's a reason why even 20 year old examples are worth crazy money.

The only reason older G wagon's cost so much is because they 99% of the population can't tell the difference between a new and old one. Thus you could technically 'ball on a budget'.

I do agree somewhat, but I think the Caddy does a whole lot more for the money. Why be just fast, when you can do it in the epitome of luxury
@georgimihalkov4781

@@jameskester7745 The Caddy definitely does more for the money, but the G wagon buyers aren't really interested in bang for the buck value, they want the status symbol. And if the epitomy of luxury is the goal, then the Range Rover and the GLS are the better options compared to the Escalade.
This is my dream garage. Escalade for the road trips. My G-Wagon for dates and pulling up to the office.
I couldn’t stop smiling. You both had so much fun. Thanks for sharing.
The AMG reference about the people who buy that G Wagon is spot on

Loving these types of reviews, keep ‘em coming!
Was recently at Spring Mountain and they were driving us around in that Es-ka-la-day. Everytime the gas pedal was released, that burble and pop .... It was fun at first but then I had that same reaction as Todd :-0 Good review
Love this channel! Keep up the great work fellas.
Having a G wagon is like having a pet python and taking it everywhere. Great line
GREAT videos. This is a great KZread channel. Bravo!
I was never expecting you guys would have that much fun reviewing SUV/truck. Love your impressions to these "sport trucks"
I would never have a need for either of these, but I am very glad that they exist.
I despise such cars, but enjoy watching your videos and smiles. And especially smiles when closing the doors. 😂 Thank you.
I thought the SL was Merc's longest running nameplate.
I would much rather have the G WAGON. It’s all in the engineering / build quality.
Another great review guys!
The scenery is just beautiful in this video. And a very interesting comparison, glad you two had fun with those monsters :D.

A used Mercedes will deprecate faster; as will any German brand and cost far more in repairs. The GM V8 engines are the best, most produced, most swapped in engines for all makes and models, and overall best Automotive gasoline engine developed in automotive history. ( you literally cannot find and car that someone has not swapped a GM V8 engine into from Lamborghini to Yugo, search for yourself) en. To be honest, Jeep Wranglers hold their value better than any SUV. The GM (Chevy) V8 is the highest production and most used Automotive engine EVER.....yes..EVER.
The place to shoot that episode is just perfect. Thanks
Absolutely fantastic video. Per use
Beautiful drone shots
Thank for the great video. G wagon unique in its niche. This gen still as capable as prev though 2019 refresh brought in more electronics, luxury in power train, independent front suspension as opposed to solid axles.. I have my G270 CDI but does everything and beyond. Esca good but competition with other SUVs like x7,range,etc
I can’t even imagine what these feel like. I rented an Expedition Max last week in Colorado and I thought the power of that ecoboost was pretty amazing. Could likely beat my GTI 0-60 while weighing twice as much. Cruising 80mph up 70 at 1750 rpm. Crazy times.
I just subscribed instantly. You are so natural when you review

I love Todds face when he looks in the camera and says “My Co-Host is seduced by Big clanking doors” The look on his face cracked me up 😂
The burbling on that Escalade, ridiculous! I still like it!
That exhaust burbling in the Cadillac is similar to the one in my Camaro 2SS 1LE. I can make it do that every time I lift off the throttle in Sport or Track mode (actually, I have it set to do that in every mode!), and it's a riot. However, I think the sound duration seems to last even longer in the Caddy, which is saying something, as it can go on for quite a while in the Camaro.
Good stuff guys! I’m with Todd on this one.
THAT EXHAUST SOULD IS FANTASTIC!! A LOT BETTER THAN MANY HYPERCARS. IT SEEMED THAT YOU CAN REDUCE BY PUTTING IN SNOW, BUT THAT MOTOR AND SOUND ARE FANTASTIC AND YOU GIT A LUXURY VEHICLE, THAT FLIES. LIKE MOST TESTED VEHICLES, I'LL NEVER AFFORD ONE. 😂😂😂🙃🙃
AMG G63 wins before even watching - it is the most unique SUV in the game

Maybe thats why the Escalade outsells it so much. The Escalade has been and continues to be more poplar and outsell all luxury SUV for twenty years straight.
I want to put a LS7 in a 79 Coupe de Ville. Keep the car looking bone stock but do a little suspension work not a Canyon Carver just enough to handle the power and a nice set of dual exhaust. Maybe 21/2 inch coming to the rear and the tail pipe tapered down. Just something to have fun and cruise long distance. Great Videos Thank You 🙏

Cadillac should have built this years ago.
I own the previous model g63 amg and I absolutely love it for its brute character despite the horrible ride quality, poor engine build quality, and rust lol. Working on an offroad build with it!
BRAVO!!!!
Escalade V’s are selling for $200K with markups and will be worth half that in a couple years. I’ll take the G wagon.

Someone has a Cadillac V on Emerald Isle, NC I believe. Emerald Isle NC has many interesting cars. There's a restomod Land Rover Defender.
the "oh ma gahhh" lmao
Now in regard to the mass vs velocity/braking issue, just think for a minute how much more mass and velocity is present in that vehicle in comparison to the Escalade V. What could possibly go wrong?
I was in Cambodia back in April 2023 and was shocked how many Escalades and ford raptors there are there. I saw more than I ever see in the US.
I have read many reviews on the Cadillac Escalade but the "Elephant " in the room is the reliability with the 6.2 engine and the dismal fuel mileage on premium. I would until the glitches are worked out in a few years like the Blackwing and then the vehicle is one of the baddest M5/S6 killers out there. This has potential in a few years and they should consider aluminum like Ford as it might be give this better gas mileage.
@DaRkVeGeTt0

The lt5 is aluminum… and complaining about reliability when a g wagon is in the same conversation is stupid at best.
I believe the Grand wagoneer is body-on-frame and I think it uses the ram 2500 chassis
Why does the a-pillar Alcantara have ripples?
Lovely! You should compare the GLS63 AMG vs this $150k Escalade. The G63 is not direct competitor and to be honest, a fashion accessory. In terms of driving, the G63 is way better for city and daily cruising due to smaller size. People do not realize the G is smaller in length than an E class.

And worthless comment of the day goes to 👆
Re: the diss for recirculating ball steering. When Lincoln was manufactured by Ford's separate luxury car division, the Town Car had recirculating ball steering. When that division was eliminated and it was moved into the main Ford manufacturing flow in 2003, it got rack and pinion, which is cheaper and more compact. Why did Benz change the G to rack and pinion? I know space is at a premium in its front end. They used to mount the engine on a slant in the G class because it couldn't fit in flat.
Fun fact, if a g-wagon does fall over, it's designed not to roll, just land and slide... They were going to use one in The Terminal List show on prime, but when they found out it wouldn't flip and roll they switched to the Porsche (sorry Paul). Episode 5 I think.
Actually there is people who need this for example my uncles they own a “logistics” company in Mexico that requires them to get out of situations quick. And need extra hp for heavy equipment like bullet proof windows and doors.
Sounds still matter ,best line.
My ‘03 Mercury Grand Marquis door sounds like that when closing. Seriously, it does.
At 9:09 in, I NEED it ... with 3 pedals though!!! I love the V, minus the fact it isn't available with a Mans-Trans... Considering that I'm bored with the 500hp SQ7 already and hate it's auto-trans behavior, maybe it's time to trade it in. Just turned 42k miles on the SQ7 over the Christmas holiday though our warranty lasts until 60k, hmm...
GM is really doing well. The Bolt, this, the C8 are all home runs in their categories. Even the new Tahoe is the one I’d pick in that space. PS - I would not have watched this if it wasn’t for the Shorts I saw.

The most entertaining car report I have ever watched you guys do. Todd, your one liners and metaphors are hilarious; and Paul, the expression on your face when you listened to the exhaust notes on these behemoths was priceless. Your comment about electric vehicles and whether they will be able to elicit the visceral response that the sounds a gasoline engine produces is thought provoking. I bet some engineer in Stuttgart is already devising a way on a microchip to replicate those engine noises and coordinate them with the rpms of the electric motor to create that exhaust sound in the cabin of an electric vehicle. Great report guys. Loved every second of it.

30mph to 80 mph, both in top gear locked, and full assault through the gears is a better real world test I guess.
It’s got the supercharger from the C7 ZR1 Corvette because the engine doesn’t breathe as well in the truck platform compared to the Corvette.
Both icons in their own right, but I’m more of a Cadillac guy. Their design language stands apart from anything else on or off road (also found on the track 😜) and it is bold but opulent. Nothing of the size will drive, neither does nothing growl like that _V!_ 🔥

14:31 Oh Mah Gaw 😭😂🤣

The Merc is obviously a status symbol with as unjustifiable a price tag as status symbols go. Arguably, the Escalade is also a status symbol, but it's also a lot more than that. It's elegant, roomy, comfortable and on and on....If I had $200k to splurge my, choice would be very easy.
Love you guys but the SL is a longer running nameplate for MB…
The Escalade exhaust can be exciting, but always hearing that noise, at a certain point might be annoying. I don't really know whether or not, but it seems like that. When you say Mercedes, in this case, you don't talk about a normal Mercedes. That is an AMG! It has nothing to do with a common simple Mercedes, it's tuned, it has special components, and of course you know that, better than me, but someone might be confused and think, oh the Mercedes are so fast! No way, the AMG are! Alpina or M are, not BMW. And of course, the prices are much higher than a normal Mercedes or BMW. However my choice would be a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, if I would have enough money, of course 😄🥰Thanks for the video.
I’ll take one of each please!
If I had to choose, it'd be the G-Wagen. Just the charisma and look of it. If I want to spend 6 figures on a car, I want to walk up to it and smile about this one being mine... Look out the kitchen window into the driveway and feel like something special is parked there. And the G-Class gives that a lot more. If I had 4 kids to haul about, then the story would be different... I'd buy a VW Multivan or something of that sort for the family and an entry level Cayman, a Nissan Z, or a Muscle car for me. For the same price on aggregate probably 😀
“The G is Mercedes longest running nameplate”. Err hello says SL…
Not a G wagon fanboy at all but I’d go G Wagon just off the strength of it having the same timeless shape for years.

15:10 No, the G has no air suspension. And as impressive the AMG version looks, sounds and is, i personally would get a Diesel one. No idea if they are even sold in the US, but here in europe they are. (with a 2 year waiting list at the moment). And btw.: as i am living less than half an hour away from the G factory, i have seen the upcomming electric one in onroad testing several times now. (It's easy to recognize as the stickers they put onto the whole car lok like a circuit board in blue.)
Next up is the Chevy Express the longest unchanged vehicle still manufactured today.

Then the Ford Econline van has to be in the top 5, it's too bad car manufacturers are pressured to change things sometimes just for the sake of change, and ruin something that was already great whether styling, powertrain or whatever.
What really shocks is that the G wagon is 1,000 lbs heavier than an LC 500 convertible
There’s burble tunes and sports exhausts and DSG trombone tunes and then there’s the exhaust and firecracker tune on the Escalade V😂. But as Todd said at the end they rediculus, as is every “SPORTS SUV”
I choose Escalade V over GLS or Gwagon or any BMW. The 7 seater, space, comfort, ride quality, performance, sound. I would take it anywhere relaxing and when I want the performance press the V button
Cadillac Vs Mercedez? Good review and comparison, but there is no hope for cadillac in every way other than being cheaper. Period.
