Very informative interview. I was born in 1979, so I dont expect the kids of today to listen to what I was listening back in the days. In my house I play music that is distinctively South African and African. That is what my parents did when I was young. That is how I was introduced to the AFRICAN BEAT. It all starts in the household. One can get inspiration from anything and anyone in the world. It is important as an individual to know the HISTORY of your respective country, so that you are informed and educated about people in your country that have played a pivotal role in developing things, political activists, etc. My son was born in 2006, but if you ask him about the South African history, you will be surprised the amount of knowledge he has. I am informing and educating him, so that he can make a sound decision one day. So lets not put it against Nasty C, that he found inspiration from T.I. That is what he was exposed to. We can not blame him for that, but what we should be doing is informing him of our South African STARS. What he does with the information, it is up to him. I understand your point regarding us as AFRICANS claiming our identity through ART. I fully agree with it 100%. Yes, it is important and vital to make sure that our kids know and take pride in our AFRICAN CULTURE.

@@lavidaNOTA Nota bro, I'd like to know since when is it wrong to be inspired by someone who is not from your country? Thats just down to a process I'm sure you know called Cultural Globalisation. The first Eminem song I heard was more exciting to me than the first Zola 7 song I heard, and that does not mean that Pro Kid etc are not legends. For instance my heroes are Amancio Ortega, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Serhant and Bob Marley and that does not mean that I think people like Mr Motsepe or Alito Dangote are not inspiring to me. There is a spectrum bro.

Juice Back was Nasty’s first song that elevated him, the song that made us buy his music, the song that made everyone love Nasty C...and that song sounds American tight? Cuz that’s what he’s good at, that type of music he was exposed to. Why should he stop doin what his fan love to impress Nota? We have Candice Pillay from Durban who was featured in Dr Dre’s album she wasn’t singing in Indian language. Kwesta must go represent cuz he does what Nota wants. Allow people to do what they want. YoungstaCPT can do what he want, Big Zulu will continue do what hes good at.

@@duncandeeks3639 you don’t get it. Artists were paid for their publishing. You don’t know how labels work , Nota does . Artists get given advances when they get signed. They also get given budgets for music videos and production. The label has to then recoup that money back through sales and publishing. They can either make a loss or a profit, it’s a gamble. Where they make a loss niggas just walk away but when they make profits beyond what they initially imagined then they want to re- negotiate. Even Kanye is the biggest hypocrite, demanding his masters back while owning other people’s masters. With Nota, him Kwesta and Kid X were partners. They probably all contributed money for the production of the music and everyone had an equal share or a share proportional to their contribution. It’s a different situation to Puff’s. Kalawa, 999 and others had the same model as Bad Boy. Everybody did

Nota needs to understand that Nasty C didn’t choose to listen to TI or Wayne instead of Zola but it was music that was played in a bus on his way to school. As a human being you don’t choose who or what inspires you.

Nota is definitely one of the most passionate people in S.A. hiphop, no doubt. Only problem is he sees almost everything from his own perspective, honestly not everyone feels how he feels so I don't think he can speak as if he is the only authority for S.A. hiphop

My man its true Nota, Yanga and Kwesta go a long long long way, Nota with Yanga gave everything to make Kwesta pop, even after leaving Buttabing they struggled together, all Nota dreamt about and was moulding Kwesta's career, I know he talks alot, but I was there and saw it my brother. But Nota is emotive communicator.
