aint no way bucky thought fireflies were only a thing in anime lol yes bucky, fireflies are real, the light is a result of 'bioluminescence', which tons of other organisms also have. They're everywhere in the US right now (at least in the northeast) you can look them up if you're in doubt

Fireflies are flying all over the place here in Virginia right now. You just see them light up all over the yard and in the trees.

Erinya omg, you thought fireflies were a visual effect?! They're very real, though they don't usually glow constantly, they pulse and blink. Come out to the states in the summer, I dunno if they're in the EU anywhere, probably since they're bugs but still. It's worth it to chase them at least once.
