It's saddening to see that people fail to realize this song was created before Hitler was even relevant. The lyrics contain zero amount of fascism or other nasty ideological drug you'd usually find in similar songs. Fuck, i actually shed a tear when the real meaning of the song hits me. It's a story about why soldiers fight. Not for glory, not for their leaders, and not for a 'just cause'. They fight simply because they have to protect those they love, even if they might die in the process.

@@bosskanova685 The song was composed and written in the 1930s, before ww2 and in the context of everyone still remembering the great war, aka ww1. the song is lovely, but it isn't sung today by armies because of the timing and pacing, if anyone's wondering. the song is about flowers, bees, and a soldier in ww1 longing to return to his pride, joy and world, erika. (it's heathe in german btw)

I always understood from my grandfather that the German troops were often heard signing this song during WW1. Erika is a song about love and comradeship.

Quite fascinating to hear that, considering ww1 ended in 1918 and this song was written in 1938….

This song is the best even better with the background visuals 10/10. also sorry if this seems rude (big history fan who loves WW2) but Erika was actually considered a marching song of the Weimar Republic as the song was made in 1930 and Naz¡ Germany did not take power till 1933 and the only reason Erika is know as a Naz¡ song was due to the fact the Wehrmacht would sing this song during military parades along with other songs like Alte Kameraden (Old Comrades) which was a song of Prussia again sorry if I seem rude.

The song "Erika" has nothing to do about war. It's about a soldier thinking of his Fiancee back home. He compares her to a flower and how she is so sweet the bees swarm around her, and how he has her picture in his room and wonders if she is thinking of him. Many German marching songs are about home and young women and are not about war at all.

I'm not German but I love a lot of things about Germany, from their language to their technological advancement and engineering. Germans are super good at fashion design too, even when it comes to vehicles! Tigers are very distinguishable compared to Russian and American tanks, the VW Beetle design is iconic, their guns are stylish and efficient (I love H&K). Heil Deutschland!

We fought on the wrong side, and race was only important to the Nazis, Italian Fascism and Japan not important at all, besides there was real social will in Italian Fascism, Stalin and the Reds was much more authoritarian and genocidal than the Nazis, we should have collaborated with the axis to fight the USSR

@@collinthegamer510 the holodomor with 7 million deaths, the 4 million deaths in the Gulags and the Stalinist purges are much more deadly than the Nazi Holocaust, under Stalin, there were 25 million deaths of innocent.

Even their songs about flowers and bees are intimidating. Amazing how the French sounds soft even when they literally talk about watering their land with enemies blood.
