Besides Tom and John Schneider, these are the two people that made smallville so special for me. Erica is my absolute favorite Lois, and despite Michael’s own opinion about Gene Hackman, I actually believe he is the definitive Lex Luthor

Well it's not P.C. to say it now but I watched it for Allison Mack, as well as Rosenbaum and Glover as the two Luthors. I think everybody else except Pete and Whitney all had strengths, but these were the main three for me. In later series, you can add Sam Whitwer and Cassidy Freeman...

She’s easily the best Lois Lane adaptation ever. I liked that they used sex appeal, but also made her tough, opinionated, insightful, and brave. I liked how they often leaned into her army brat background. It added a lot to the story.

In a November 1959 issue of the comic run, called "Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane", it was established her parents were originally farmers, similar to the Kents but living in a town called Pittsdale. Some time afterward, her background was changed to having military roots.

Erica and Tom had and still have insane chemistry together. They'd be crazy not to work together again, you can't let that chemistry go to waste especially now that they're older and wiser.

Hackman played Lex the way he was popularly known at the time, in the comics. A bit cheesy, some funny failures, etc. Mr. Rosenbaum took up the mantle for modern Lex. Smarter than everyone, deadly, dangerous

1:06:08 you did this for my brother, Rosie. In Madison, at a con before the pandemic. He was dressed in a Superman suit. He’s been bullied his whole life and Smallville still is a retreat for him from the world. You and Tom and Erica all talked with him. But you in particular were incredible, holding the mic for him during the Q&A and joking around with him. You don’t know how much this stuff means to us. You may be the villain of the story, but you’re a hero in real life to many. ❤️

I feel bad that Erica has been in a battle with anxiety and depression throughout what sounds like her whole life. But for someone that has been in that battle along with her, I get such inspiration and motivation to see her succeed and live her life and not be ashamed of having bad days. Can’t say I lay in my bathtub, but my couch with my cats is as cozy and lovely as it gets.

Johnny she reminds us that we all struggle in many ways. If you go to a bar you will see men drinking alone and want to be left alone. What is going on there? They have pain and are trying to drink it away. Life is rough my friend. We all are dealing with a load of crap.

Given how she knocked Lois out of the park and how epically fearless Lois was on the show, it's honestly surprising to me that she has been struggling. I struggle with it and have since I was 10 and I have a great career and good kids, but somehow it still creeps in and I think of all that I've done wrong and that drags me way down. I'm glad she brought this topic up because it's helpful to know that someone whose work I enjoy fights with the same struggles as I do, as others do.

This was a fantastic interview, it felt so real and down to earth. She's so honest & maintains a positive energy that few do today. Erica and Tom Welling need to do another project together. I don't think they realize the power they have when they come together and they still got fire chemistry and banter.

Erica is such a gem. I could listen to her for hours.

Erica is both a sweetheart and a total badass. I saw her in Metropolis talking with Helen Slater about being an introvert who has to code-switch to extrovert around others. And growing up in a highly structured and unforgiving farming environment - as she said at 45:25 - with loving but strict religious parents. She doesn't resent any of it and I know to this day she won't tolerate people who dismiss all Christians as hypocritical rubes - even while expressing her specific misgivings. And her mom is the reason why because she modeled an authentic faith by loving her unconditionally.

Fantastic episode, Erica is a total sweerheart and so open and honest about everything, terrific 😄

When we watched Smallville as a family I called her, "My Lois". She is quite a gal. Now my wife has her crushes too but both of us are completely committed to one another.

I got so excited when Lois said her name to Clark....I thought, "NOW the legacy starts." I absolutely loved their chemistry.

We need to see something with you, Tom, and Erica together. It would be amazing! I'm pretty sure people would pay to see you three together. You guys are great! What a dream come true this would be!

The fact that she pulled out a lethal weapon 2 reference is so awesome.

What an amazing woman. She's the dream partner for any man!!!! I need to find me a beautiful soul like Erica Durance. I feel like she's the coolest, most sweetest woman you could build your life with. I'd give her everything and treat her like the queen she is. I sense she's worked so hard and given everything she's got for the people around her but it's never been reciprocated back and she just wants to feel like someone cares. She's a superwoman but sometimes a superwoman needs love and support as well. She's such a selfless woman with a big heart...I wish all my best to this beautiful soul, she deserves the world.

Find someone who has similar interests and values. One thing we guys do and I am assuming you are a guy, is to focus on looks. Looks are nice but they are the icing on the cake not the cake itself. Another thing I tell people is look at the families women come from. If they are from broken homes, neurotic homes then this can be a red flag. Of course you can always find a diamond in the rough who rose above a bad upbringing. But you have to do your homework. May God help you in your search.

I just recently started watching Smallville again and said hello to my long time crush, Erica. More specifically Erica's Lois. Her portrayal of Lois was spot on to what I thought Lois would be like. She set the bar. Thankfully there was very good writing as well. Her character was very consistent. And such a beautiful woman too. The chemistry with Tom sold me on their relationship. Sometimes I would blurt out loud while watching "just kiss her already Clark!"

Erica your smile is so adorable it lifts any frown. As for ending up in the bathroom it's usually because that's where privately we can stare at ourselves in the mirror. Probably to ask our inner selves what the heck are we doing, pull yourself together so we kind of use the space to say out loud where our heads at so we can then process it and flush the heaviness down the loo. How did you like lexs end in season 6? Personally it was a great speech but a Medicare episode. I hated how the finished Lana's story line she can't touch clark ? Uh you do know there were other better ways she could have left the show or is it just me?

@@rolandofgilead43 aw lol! As for Lex's end I remember seeing Clark behind Lex and Lex turning around gave me chills, it was like, the moment is finally here, he knows. I thought it was a okay end. I know it was a bit quick and not like a huge fight but I'm okay with that. Also I hated Lana's storyline end as well because Clark was like, such a new person now with Lana gone and Lois in his life and he felt like he'd come fully into his own, but then Lana came in and it was like he regressed. Her video was like the perfect closure - he had to move on and there was no chance between them now, and she would stay away where he couldn't find her. But it felt like Clark choosing Lana immediately and the only thing to make her stay away being kryptonite was almost unfair to Lois, it's like there will never be closure with this, it feels like he'll always be pining for a Lana he couldn't get. But they ended up making Clark and Lois still cute after, there wasn't this feeling of a rebound or like he was being fake to her. I honestly wish she hadn't returned so that there was that proper closure.

Kinda how they kill off let's say lex in season I dunno 3 to throw a random season out there of lex had died at some point in that season it would have been for drama. They needed to take him away from lois a little longer for conflict. See I didn't mind her coming back she did 5 episodes that's fine. And had they had him end up with her that would have been fine as well it was only that they decided to douse her with fucking kryptonite too keep them away they easily could have had lana see clark and lois have a moment and lana notice he's into her and lois is into clark that would have been realistic I think.

She's one of the most fun guests of the pod.

Wow she's incredible. I could listen to her for hours. I used to have anxiety attacks in the bathroom as well but that was when I was married to my toxic narc of an ex-wife. The day I started dating my best friend of 10 years and then married her is when I found peace, haven't locked myself in the bathroom since. It's amazing how having people who really love you for you without changing who you are brings you peace. Sidenote: Why is it so hot when Erica calls him Welling?

Gotta be honest... When Erica showed up on Smallville, I didn't care for her. I knew it meant Kristin was going to be phased out. I still think Kristin was/is possibly the most beautiful woman ever. That being said, the more I rewatch episodes(alot), the more I appreciate Erica and her character. Not only has Erica played the best version of Lois in history, I feel her Lois is one of the best characters in entertainment history.

You can tell Erica comes from a great family with so much love and support from her parents to her siblings to her grandparents-- she values her family and close friends. She's as real as they come and doesn't hide her flaws for perfectionism... true perfection has to be imperfect and in my eyes Erica Durance is perfection. I also have so much respect for the hard work she's put in and the humbleness of everything in her life... nothing has ever been handed to her and that just makes you want to root for her even more. She's a fantastic human being and one could only hope to have some so special as Erica in their lives. She's a rockstar, just a cool chick with a kickass personality who's made of pure sweetness. Rock on Erica!

Erica was going to appear at a convention near Dallas in 2006, and I was living there at the time...but she had to bow out at the last moment to do reshoots for "Smallville". I understood her commitment to her work, but I was still really bummed out, and I live near Houston now. If she ever does a con close to here, I'd do my best to show up; she made a great Lois Lane.

Absolutely LOVED this Podcast!!! I will never forget "Look at his face", whenever a TV Show does a scene where someone encounters a character completely not wearing anything I always remember Lois' reaction. I will definitely check out other shows she's done, also really liked her in The Butterfly Effect 2.

I got to meet Erica at a Toronto ComicCon back in the smallville days, and she was really nice and polite. My buddy had a huge crush on her but was too shy to ask her for a picture, so I walked up to her and let her know my friend REALLY wants a picture and if its ok with her to take one, and with a really big smile she said, "of course"! After the picture my buddy thanked me, then said that shes not only more beautiful in person that he thought(and she really is), but she's way taller then he thought. He said he didn't expect her to be taller than him 😂 *Edited for grammar*

Love all your guests but I admittedly love all the Smallville kids just a little bit more. Erica is just awesome.

I want to thank Erica Durance for implying that it is not only good, but healthy to listen to the voices in your head. I run businesses and speak to close to a hundred people every week. Every so often, having a conversation with myself, even if only in my mind, helps to organize the thoughts. Erica is among my favorite actresses, after Victoria Justice and Anna Kendrick. Michael isn't, but that's only because I consider him more of a psychostimulant. In fact, I show clips of Michael's performances or conversation to people I know who are feeling crazy. Seeing someone with an approximate identical level of psychosis tends to calm them. God bless both of you.

Erica is my favorite Lois. I loved the nuances of the character. Glad you guys avoided the cult.

Erica Durance is such a fine female specimen. Absolutely loved her in Smallville. I'm lucky enough to have been a fan of the show way back in the early 2000s but then my life got complicated so I never ended up seeing the second half of the seasons. Literally never saw seasons 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or the finale. So I'm sitting here now in 2023 watching these seasons for the first time! And they're awesome!! But I can't believe Lana is pregnant to Lex Luthor!! What the hell?!!! I'm really enjoying it all. Best show ever made for television.

You're god damn right she popped on Smallville the first few episodes of season 4 are spectacular because of the on screen chemistry between Erica and Tom. I love Kristen but she didn't have that same chemistry with Tom that's why Erica was perfect for Lois Lane. The Clark Kent/Lois Lane love story is the greatest love story ever told and the best version of it is Smallville. Rosenbaum is the greatest version of Lex Luthor too. Love Smallville. Gonna binge watch it now.
