Sad to hear today of Eric's passing. I remember my first season as a young kid in 1967-68 watching him dominate the defence & leading us to promotion that year. Every time we won a corner we shouted "Winnie, Winnie" with arms punching the air. Wonderful he was Danny Wilson's coach when we got promotion to the premier league. Mr Barnsley.

Eric was head coach/manager of St Kitts a few years ago, he is a lovely man my son Kev loved him, he took St Kitts to their highest world ranking, we all thought here we go, we’re going to be the David amongst the Goliaths. We couldn’t afford to pay his wages, not because he was too expensive, we were skint . Everyone that met him here loved him immediately, we still talk about him often, his enthusiasm and friendly nature was infectious, we miss you mate.

Yeah he comes in our local, i talk to him a lot, my father knows him well. He is definitely a lovely bloke. Very grounded. All i hear is great things but i am way too young to know first hand of his skills. All the best.

Legend gets branded about easily these days. But for me Eric Winstanley is definitely one. We was lucky he chose us over Huddersfield.

If it hadn't been for Spackman he would have likely been at Oakwell til the day he died
