I may not have heard well, but I suspect he said medallions, not mentalists. The medallion has many variations, which is why Penn doesn't like it, as sometimes the "medallion" practice is not well identifiable. I don't want to stand up for Penn, who sometimes also "charms" in decision-making, especially when one of his old friends shows up on stage with a lousy performance. :)

It's the code. Not sure he actually said it, but there were 4x5=20 lies on the board. I'm guessing Penn is suggesting that there were five more (unseen) cards that he used to make the trick work :)
@retroanim
2 жыл бұрын
On the top line where are positionned the 5 selected lies, there's likely just a tiny layer of "wood" (recto) attached on top of a metalic layer attached on top of the 5 letters for truth (verso) on top of actual wood. So if the lies are magnetised, when put on the top line they get attached to these recto/verso cards. When they are returned, what you see is the verso of the cards whose recto is "wood".

Dunno why Penn & Teller dislike mentalists, just because mentalism is not what they do. Just like escapologists don't really escape from impossible handcuffs..... I suppose "illusionists" are acknowledging that they use an illusion to fool you, so their job title is correct. Actually I only dislike those people who communicate (for money) with relatives who have passed. That is quite a cruel deception. And this guy was so likeable & entertaining..... and not all (say) card magicians are entertaining, though they might be technically brilliant.

Good guess but it's far simpler. This isn't using any mentalism techniques. The final cards are already in the top 5 slots, just flipped. He does a double lift at the end. That's why Penn talks about there being 25 cards on the board, not forces.

I don’t like mentalist acts either typically but this was a good one.
I missed where he said there were only twenty lies whereas there were twenty five lies. Where did he say it. I watched twice and missed both times?

It's the code. Not sure he actually said it, but there were 4x5=20 lies on the board. I'm guessing Penn is suggesting that there were five more (unseen) cards that he used to make the trick work :)
@retroanim

Parental lie id prefer “daddy will be home with the milk shortly”

Mentalism tricks are always boring as hell, to me. But this trick is probably one of my favorites. I loved everything about it.
Nigerians have suffered 😂😂😂😂
Dunno why Penn & Teller dislike mentalists, just because mentalism is not what they do. Just like escapologists don't really escape from impossible handcuffs..... I suppose "illusionists" are acknowledging that they use an illusion to fool you, so their job title is correct. Actually I only dislike those people who communicate (for money) with relatives who have passed. That is quite a cruel deception. And this guy was so likeable & entertaining..... and not all (say) card magicians are entertaining, though they might be technically brilliant.
Talking slowly vs Talking Fast is the trick to making them pick. Simple but effective. Classic mentalist force
@ImAlsoMerobiba

Good guess but it's far simpler. This isn't using any mentalism techniques. The final cards are already in the top 5 slots, just flipped. He does a double lift at the end. That's why Penn talks about there being 25 cards on the board, not forces.
Alyson... URAQT.
hahhahaha love the lies
REALisation: cheques* in the mail...
7:18 Penn is lying, it's 24, not 25! But the real magic here is the way Eric Samuels turns an old, simple trick into truly great entertainment and that's what really matters in stage magic.

its 20 tiles with lyes... 5 rows of 4. than they have a row of 5 on top that are flipped backwards. once he places the lye selected by the audience they stick together. So there are 25 tiles all together on the board

@@MatheusHenrique-gt2iv the choice is forced by the way he talks. All the choices he didn't want them to pick you can see he just read them without pauses and the same tone of voice. In the choices he want them to pick he makes a pause somewhere in the middle of the sentence making it funnier in a subliminal way. That's why penn says there were 25 lies in there, because he forced all the choices. The act is done smoothly though

thumbs up just for the text on cards, sadly they're all true. I'm so fed up with people who make up lies, because they don't have the guts to tell the truth. Those are literally the things that people say when they just don't give a Sh1t about the person they are telling this to, but they just lack the guts to speak their mind.
