they got enough respect; people heard of them. Burdon probably had the best pure rock voice of the popular early 60s Brit bands. Better than the singers in the Beatles, Kinks and Yardbirds. You could make the case that his voice had more of the "it" factor than Jagger or Daltrey. Certainly their equal. Burdon was a troubled soul. Perhaps his antics contributed to the public not embracing him as much as the others.

Much as I admired Eric Burdon, that old 'nobody comes close' chestnut is rather hard to prove, especially when the yankee version of this very song is sung by Mitch Ryder - who also had an exceptional and powerful voice. The Animals and, Burdon especially, cover this song perfectly. The guitar lick at 1:43 is extroidinary in that it allows the band to claim it their version with a singular signature esoteric stamp. They are giving homage to Ma Rainey, Big Bill Bronzy, Chuck Willis and even Peggy Lee and countless others that have coverd this song which emerged with Ma Rainey in 1924 or 1925 The MC V and Mitch Rider & The Detroit Wheels contemporaily covered this as well in the 1960's time frame.

I grew up in San Diego CA. Many of those in my school (I was 15 when this came out) were all into the Beach Boys and pop music. My ears knew the difference.

Kick Ass version!!¡¡ Outstanding Pvt Pyle!!!
I love this song one of my favorites.I just found this song sung by a late blues singer of back in the day named Lead Belly
I was 16 the first time I heard The Animals sing "House of the Rising Sun". The impression this music made on all of us kids who were immersed in all types of rock and roll was so powerful.. we finally had something that belonged to us and it wasn't our parent's music! It was a big deal. Thank you for sharing. Soundtrack of my youth 🎼 🖤

Best cover of this great old blues ditty. Even beats Ray Charles and Laverne Baker who I am a big fan of. This one is knocked out of Fenway.
So hot Eric Burdon❤could watch him 24/7

1967... Extraordinaire ! Eric est fabuleux sur ce morceau. C'est avec "See See Rider", édité en France par Barclay que j'ai commencé à adhérer à la musique de Burdon. En fait, tout est simplement génial...
The brilliant Eric Burdon and The Animals made it to No.10 in the USA back in October 1966 with a cover of the LaVern Baker classic, which was also done by Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels.
Cool Tune!
Haven't heard this for ages, Love it !!
Eric is one of a kind otstanding voice so much emotions and soul, love his voice so much. But the first group The orginal Animals is the best group ever for me, nothing aginst this group they were good but the orginal Animals has my heart

they got enough respect; people heard of them.
The Animals were so raw! Eric Burdon was so hot! What legends!

Much as I admired Eric Burdon, that old 'nobody comes close' chestnut is rather hard to prove, especially when the yankee version of this very song is sung by Mitch Ryder - who also had an exceptional and powerful voice. Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Steve Marriot and Jim Morrison, of his contemporaries, were also awesome singers.
