    Bitter smarks. They hate Hogan cause they were told it was cool to hate him. They love a business that he did more for than anyone else but they hate him. They love Benoit who murdered a child but hate Hulk cause he protected his character. They love Flair who is likely a predator but hate Hogan. Sad bunch of jokes.

    At least Eric is consistent with the AOL/Time Warner changes affecting plans for WCW. Bad booking may have made a bad in-ring product and pissed off talent but apparently wasn't the absolute cause of the end of WCW

  • @RyTrapp0

    @RyTrapp0

    Yea, at that point the in-ring content is almost irrelevant. I mean, a LOT of us were watching for the actual wrestling talent(specifically why we were watching WCW over WWF, it was just plain better wrestling at the time since it wasn't Vince's obsession with gigantic body builders that were mediocre in the ring), but we're still watching for the show too - and, when the show just gets too hard to watch, most of us don't stick around for the matches. The problem with bad writing in wrestling is that it ALWAYS just comes off as so intelligence insulting, since we're already suspending disbelief far enough anyway for good writing lol

    It's conveniently left out that WCW lost over $100M in it's last 2 years, and only had 2 years of profit in it's 10yr existence... as Jim Ross said best "They(AOL/Time Warner) weren't going to have a loosing entity for the hell of it" If WCW was turning money, it would have stayed.

    @@SmithCommaBenjamin That's not true they didn't want it could have made all the money in the world fact is in 97-98 they wanted it gone. Lex Luger said it best he was at a Napa convention they invited him and Turner, not Ted Turner the Turner corps didn't mention one fucking thing about WCW. WCW is making them tons of money and they didn't mention one thing about it for their future programming that tells you right there they never cared for it wheater it made money or not there is so much b.s about WCW fact is Turner/Time Warner/AOL didn't want it felt you had to be stupid to like Wrestling Ted Turner and a small group of people gave a shit about it everyone else felt Wrestling was a joke.

    @@SmithCommaBenjamin Tbh i don't think those people wanted WCW either way, everyone is consistent that a LOT of people at Turner always wanted wrestling off the air and saw it as trash tv that was beneath them, no doubt Russo's era only made this perception worse, but even when WCW was making money there were people trying to get rid of it and by all accounts the only reason they didn't succeed earlier was due to Ted Turner, who was dilluted and pushed out after the AOL merger. The merger was approved by the FTC in January 2001, and by March 2001 WCW had been sold to the WWF, all it took was pushing Ted out of the way. At the time, Eric even offered to buy it and keep producing it for them and they just needed to keep it on the air, note that for example even in 2001 Thunder was still the highest rated show on TBS. It was not a business decision, it was a decision based on the idea that wrestling was beneath their corporate image.

    If ATM Eric and Russo hadn’t run the company into the ground, would Kellner have cancelled the TV contract? I doubt it. The massive financial losses made it easy for him. If they were making money and doing solid ratings they would have continued or sold to Fusion so Eric could rebrand and continue

    Bishoff will never take responsibility for the fall of WCW , till this day he always blames the higher ups, but the bottom line is that besides the NWO WCW was not as good at storytelling when it came to wrestling the way Vince McMahon and the creative forces supporting him at WWE once the attitude era started being successful, once the NWO storyline got old creatively Bishoff had nothing else to come after that, they wasted elite talent like Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, and kept them in the cruiser weight division and when they went to WWE they became heavyweight champions and stars, that’s just 1 example of how WWE eventually pulled ahead of the great 2 to 3 year run of great WCW wrestling
