Eric continues to be, one of the most interesting, intelligent guys involved in the wacky world of professional wrestling. When future generations look back, and see how he took a dysfunctional company (WCW) that was floundering, and made it the most successful in its industry, against a juggernaut that was/is WWF/WWE , they will judge him more respectfully than he is today. What he did was miraculous. Yes in the end he probably was in over his head a touch (something he’ll admit to) and internal Time Warner/AOL politics created a toxic environment to carry on the success long term. But what he achieved in 96-98 was probably the best Wrestling tv in the modern era. He changed the game and for the better!

I think one of the reasons Good Ol JR was being vague with Bischoff on the phone about the Invasion angle, was because there was no plan outside of a vague outline. Basically WWF (at the time) was just winging it, which would explain the whole alliance crap that followed shortly thereafter. The rush to start the Invasion storyline, along with taking the make-it-up-as-you-go-along approach, clearly, did not work.

Plus, it's not beyond McMahon to be petty and take creative liberties to make WCW look bad. All that was expected. However, the long term planning of the story line itself came across as week-by-week though. Thus winging it. The WCW/WWE Invasion sorry sucked big time. Especially the end when Stone Cold turned his back on WWE and joined WCW. That was stupid because Steve Austin had a huge resentment for WCW firing him for no reason and not giving him a opportunity to shine. Austin spent a short time in ECW slamming WCW. Then WWE gave him the opportunity to be who Steve wanted to be thus the Stone Cold character. Which was Steve's idea. Then he turns his back on the company who made him for the company that almost destroyed him. Yeah, that's smart. It was one of the dumbest stories ever. WCW wasn't jobbers. WCW was Sting, NWO, Goldberg, The 4 Horsemen (Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Chris Benoit, and Mongo McMichael), Diamond Dallas Page, Harlem Heat, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, Lex Lurger, The Giant, Kevin Sullivan, Faces of Fear, Kanyon, Kidman, Raven, Van Hammer, Hugh Morris, etc. Not the half asss rehash that WWEs watered down version of WCW.
