Ergo Metro+ Travel Stroller Review 2021 - The New Compact King

This is a review of the Ergo Metro+, the lastest release from Ergobaby that may be the best compact travel stroller to date. At $299, it slightly more expensive than the Colugo Compact while boasting superior quality that's comparable to the Uppa Minu.

The Metro+ is a SOLID buy if you're looking for a compact travel option: bit.ly/3z6eKD3 Very comparable to my long-time fave, the Minu, but $100 less. Hard to beat. Thoughts?

Is it an upright seat? The problem we've had with other compact strollers are they are reclined and our daughter is uncomfortable and keeps wanting to sit more upright.

Colugu compact has survived 5 full weeks in Walt Disney World. It has been used with infant carrier for two of those 5 weeks. It is very good and hardy. Does what it needs and crushes the crappy umbrella option. It also flew in overhead bin everytime going down. This looks nice but just saying my colugu did get the job done for those looking. The rain cover was clutch.... It's Florida after all.

Great review and great stroller! We have it for our second baby and the newborn feature is great ❤️. I do not hesitate using it with a two month baby. We love travelling and we simply hated all big pushchair with our first child. The only thing I hate about it is the car seat feature - it makes the Metro+ fell so grumpy and heavy to push. Good to have that but not a great 🎯. Besides that I am simply in love with it ☺️☺️☺️

This was very helpful! Our daughter will be born in 2.5 weeks and we are extremely frequent travelers (we have 2 transatlantic flights and 2 other 4+ hour flights booked for her first 3 months of life) and so we need the ultimate compact stroller. I was going to bite the bullet and purchase the babyzen yoyo2 (the size of the minu is simply too big when folded for most european airplane overhead bins) but after this review I'm reallyyyy leaning towards buying this stroller instead. The 200$ price difference and the fact that you don't have to buy an extra newborn package (another ~140$ for the babyzen) are very much selling me on this stroller.

What should drive the decision to buy a compact vs a normal stroller? We have been using a Mutsy Evo since our daughter was born but it's taking up way too much space in our hallway. We don't travel too often and would use it mostly in the city, we don't have a huge house and would love something small. Is a compact stroller then the way to go, or should we try other options?

What are your thoughts on the harness for the Metro+ compared to the Minu? I've noticed on some strollers with 5 point harnesses, they can be a pain to get a unwilling child into the stroller (Baby Jogger city tour 2 stroller was this way). If they were priced equally, would you still choose the Metro+ over the Minu?

This is what’s holding me back from this purchase as well. I tried out the baby jogger at a disney cruise cause it was their complimentary stroller and I HATED the harness. We use an uppababy vista and appreciated that harness 100x more after using the stupid baby jogger stroller. It looks like the harness on this metro+ doesn’t function like the uppababy ones….

If you decide to carry your baby most of the time outside in a wrap or carrier, this is a good addition. When he/she gets too heavy for longer distances, he/she will have reached an age where this kind of stroller is totally enough - at least on paved roads! For bumpier rides travel strollers are no recommendation at all.

Love you videos and I've been following you for over 3 years now. My wife found this video of the Ergo Metro+ stroller and based on your review, we were pretty sold on picking it up for our trip to Scandinavia. Well, two weeks in, it's pretty awful in the city centres. Definitely not good for city living in Europe or Scandinavia. This stroller doesn't handle the cobblestone streets of Copenhagen. It fails pretty badly. It also doesn't stand a chance in the snowy climates of Tromsø. 2+ inches of snow and you are done for. We will see how it handles Sweden but I don't have any hope :( thank you for reviewing this stroller but I think the cities you are referring to are US based cities.

Great review. Your video was the deciding factor in ordering the Ergo Metro+ over the Minu. You hit some of the main pros in comparison to others such as Minu and Colugo, such as nice padded seating, lays flat, and adjustable handlebar. Unfortunately, mom who is 5 ft (153 cm) is not tall enough (for leverage) to flick the front chassis out as shown in your video, so it becomes a two step and two hand process. At 5'8" I am able to fold/unfold just fine, but I must say that the Metro+ is not as good as the Uppababy Minu in terms of ease and smoothness of folding/unfolding. I also want to mention that the circumference of the handlebar is larger on the Metro+ than say the Minu, so folks with smaller hands may need to apply more force than expected to engage the folding slider and button to initiate the fold. At least with the unit we received, the folding button was stiff, and the slider had a ton of play. We could only get it to unlock half of the time (spouse had to use two hands). We may have received a lemon, so we'll see what customer service says first. Overall, I think it's a good stroller, however, we are having such a hard time with the folding slider and button that unless it is resolved we'll go with the Minu, which would be too bad because we really like the padded seat and lay flat feature of the Metro+. Update after 1 wk of use: After about folding and unfolding the stroller for about 50 times, we found the folding slider and button to be much easier to operate and the folding joints to be much smoother. It was likely fresh from the factory and needed some breaking in. So far, the wife enjoys using the Metro+ compared to our normal sized stroller, which we use for rougher terrain. It is really easy for her to take the Metro+ in or out of the vehicle, and navigate through downtown foot traffic. We recommend the Ergobaby Metro+ for anyone looking for a compact travel stroller.

Thanks for sharing your experience on this. Sprry to hear that. The slider and button for the fold didn't stick for me so it may have been a bad unit, but if you pivot to the Minu that's still a favorite option of mine.

  • @dhung23

    @dhung23

    2 жыл бұрын

@@melody_shmelody Wife and I were quite frustrated with the Metro+ on the first day, but we gave it a few days and folded/unfolded at least 50 times. After about 1 week of use, the unlocking mechanism and folding joints seemed to have loosen up. Furthermore, we probably got used to the weight distribution, balance, and force required to fold/unfold the stroller. Do note that the slider (switch?) has to reset before you can engage it, then depress the big button to initiate the fold; you don't need to hold onto the button once released. I noticed there are two springs on each end of the slider that reposition the slider back to normal position, but the springs to be too weak (or has too much play) to fully reset the slider sometimes. Knowing that I would wiggle the slider slightly before engaging it. I recommend folding/unfolding the stroller a few times a day for a week to see if things get better. The Minu has a much easier fold/unfold for sure (I did it on first attempt in the store with no instructions), but do give the Metro+ some time to see if it becomes easier for you to operate.

It's not as bulky/heavy as a double expansion option but can handle all the needs and rigor of daily usage or travel. Major fan of the Uppa Cruz V2: amzn.to/3xVoazA

Congratulations on your new baby coming soon! As a postpartum mom I agree you can’t go wrong with any of the mid-size strollers like UppaBaby Cruz. You can pop the car seat onto the stroller without waking the baby and it can handle the bumps in the road that smaller strollers cannot. My husband and I started out with a small travel stroller but the wheels couldn’t handle the trolley tracks and cobblestone for our frequent trips to Disneyland.

I have both at home right now trying to decide. I can’t close the Ergo with one hand. Not even close. It’s really hard to open and close honestly. The Colugo is much easier. Basket on Colugo is better. We grew to really like the Colugo harness but the Ergo one is fine. The telescoping handle on the Ergo is really nice and there’s a lot more leg room for whoever is pushing it. The brake is further away but as mentioned in the video you do have to flip it up for to disengage which can be annoying in sandals. The seat cushion is softer and the full recline for newborn is a plus. It does seem easier to get over small bumps than the Colugo. The canopy as mentioned isn’t as extensive as the Colugo and it does kind of get in the way with the handle bar if you’re short. It’s slightly heavier and has a slightly lower weight capacity than Colugo. We are likely going to keep the Colugo and return the Metro based solely on the inability to open it easily.

We found the “default” sit-up position wasn’t actually the highest it could go and tightened it to almost a full 90 degrees and didn’t seem to have that problem anymore. How anyone gets the thing folded without two hands and a ton of muscle is beyond me though.

Babyzen was kind of the OG for nice compact strollers (and they're very well made) but personally I'd go with another option. I'm not a fan of the the two-hand, two-step fold of the Yoyo2 and that $500 pricetag is too much when you could be just as happy with the Minu ($399), the Metro+ ($299) or Colugo ($285) - all of which offer great quality and push.

Thanks for this review. I have used this one for 7months and it's nothing but nightmare. The folding system is extremely difficult and totally not possible by one hand. The shopping basket is TINY and hard to reach. But the worst is that the wheels eroded very quickly. I haven't had any experience with other small strollers but I really wouldn't recommend this one!

My only problem with the Metro was the seat. It is not deep enough to comfortably sit on and it has a strange angle, meaning it is slightly sloping forward instead of backward and this makes the kid fall out rather than fall back. My kid at 1.5 was already too big for the seat and was only held in by the straps which obviously is not comfortable. Otherwise it's a sturdy little stroller and I love the slightly larger wheel on the back!

Interesting, I had that particular issue with the Diono Traverze (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mHeJspdyga-0nbw.html) but hadn't really experienced that with this. Was your issue with the Metro or the Metro+? The Traverze had a very shallow seat pan and a literal horizontal angle so it created a slump position which was very uncomfortable.
