​@@Bigbert835I got this. What the OP is going for here is that Eren and Mikasa are incredibly conflicted about what Eren's been up to. They don't want Eren to be that kind of monster, but they also know they're the ones who benefit from that genocide that he's planning. So what Eren does is essentially screw with them so hard that they wind up hating him (that's his intent anyway) so that when he dies, they won't be broken up about him. It works for all of 10 minutes until armin figured out what he was trying, but eren was trying to protect his best friends from himself so to speak.

Eren was dying inside while treating them like that. Heartbreaking. You can even see teary eyes at some point.

I love that mikasa has always stood up for armin against the bullies and when it came down to standing up for Mikasa he didn’t hesitate one bit

I wish people would understand why Eren said all those things and what his actual goal was :( Eren never changed in the entire series - his personality was the same, but people ignored his real intentions. His fate was written before he was born - and he knew exactly that he had to protect Mikasa, because she will give him the freedom he always wanted. Imagine how hard it must be, knowing that the person you love is going to end you.

To this day, I still believe Eren actually meant to say "I have always loved you Mikasa". He only said he hated her so she wouldn't have a reason to fight to protect him any more.

This is so true in retrospect, my heart hurts so much for him… However during my first watch, I bought into his whole act that he’s become a villainous “changed person”. So I really mistook this grim look for his loss of humanity & feelings for his friend... I was so hurt back then, and even now I still feel very depressed by this episode for all three of them… 😞💔 this show became so hard to watch

Mikasa can't use logic or her brain in any situation, she can't handle arguments, for example she wanted to kill any soldiers who opposed her opinion or ereh. Everyone were listening to berthold excuses about the Truth but she can't be pragmatic.armin defended her against eren in table scene but she pushed him against table, then start crying,she is mentally weak.. she is so dumb , can't use her brain to give opinions or ideas outside ereh and scarf

Yes this. It's truly a tragic story if you think about it 😕

Basically, Eren was just trying to help Mikasa and Armin to be themselves and not do what others tell them to. He held back his true feelings. At the end he didn't even try to dodge Armin's punch, because he knew he deserved it. Really sad.

A lot of people misunderstand this but i feel like he's acting of his own free will, yes, he chose freedom for the world and his friends rather than his own personal desires and comforts. Remember Levi said," It's clear to me. He is a true monster. And not because of his Titan abilities. No matter how you try to hold him down, no matter what cage you lock him up in, forcing his mind into submission is an impossible task." What he wanted was the world and his friends to be free from this, even if it meant sacrificing his own life. Even before inheriting the Attack Titan, he was always passionate about becoming a soldier and killing Titans, and was ready to sacrifice himself for this reason or saving his friends, that is why he saved Armin in season 1 sacrificing himself. He was always like this; he was ready for his death.

I like how nobody is bringing up how the paintings on the wall are Total War screenshots. Y'all are blind. 😅

After kissing Historia's hand and seeing the future, it began to unfold and every action Eren took moving forward from that point was to ensure Mikasa and Armin both lived the safest, happiest and longest lives they could after he was dead. He started to act vicious around them to make them hate him so they wouldn't experience the pain of loss and regret from missing the Eren they thought they knew. He was free because he chose to turn himself into a weapon to carve the world into the best future for the woman he loved and his best friend, and he fucking won. What a great character!
