He was so much in trauma and mental pain in those 4 years time skip. We saw how he was asking questions to himself when he was in jail. About is this only way to save his loved once.

Levi: “Never thought I’d see it on you.” That shit hits different. And then it zooms in on Eren’s eye. Levi has had eyes of pain his whole life. Eren has always had big eyes with even bigger ambition. Levi is shocked to see it on him now and is disappointed with how much he’s changed.

I think it’s more he was disappointed that Eren was basically dead inside at this point, that’d he’d never see something like that on someone who was a courageous and wilful as Eren was, Erens eyes are now meant to represent how he is hiding his feelings of sadness, anger and determination behind a poker face

I think he was surprised to see Eren, who was always so hotheaded and full of life, look completely defeated. He was hardened and traumatized, and eventually gave up all hope. Levi didn’t think he’d ever get to witness Eren’s emo arc.

Since his titan is able to see fragments of the future, he probably saw the death of Sasha and when it actually happened, him laughing might mean he's laughing at his own stupidity of not being able to do anything. So powerful, yet so powerless.

@@TheKakuchu Sorry but it seemed like Eren knew it but still understood that it was necessary for Gabi to shoot Sasha and for her to witness the pain she delivered to the 104th Training Corps (Connie, Jean, Armin etc.), Survey Corps, Blouse Family, Niccolo, especially Kaya, all those who certainly treasured Sasha's joyful nature. They really just displayed their grief and wrath to Gabi, and this developed guilt. Not just in her but also in general Magath after he watched her plead for help during the campfire scene, further improving his cooperation with the Eldians for stopping Eren, (from this point manga spoilers are present) and along with instructor Keith they suicide bombed one of the ships that could potentially chase and ruin the plans of stopping Eren. Eren's future was to be killed as a brutal monster along with the founding getting erased with all titan abilities, and the hero title will be given to those who slayed him, Eldians specifically Mikasa. No matter how you look at it Sasha's death was important for Eren (and 80% of the world).

Wait hold up I didn't even notice- when Armin opened the door you could really see the difference. Both his and Mikasa's eyes had the shine, but Eren's eyes are just so cold and dark, no light reaching them at all. I kept looking back now and those eyes oh my god.

Fr, I don't understand how there's even a comparison. Annie is no where near as cold as Eren, she still shows she cares for others through her own awkward actions in her own awkward way lol. She just has a high temper sometimes and gets pissy when people do certain shit to irritate her, though she is usually calm and composed the overwhelming majority of the time. Eren here can massacre children and still not let it show. But yes, it does say a lot how we considered Annie to be one of the coldest characters in the show, but Eren still out-colds her.

In the original Japanese manga Dina was manipulated off Eren's mother through Ymir. She's the only one that could at that time, since Eren wasn't a titan and didn't have the founders power at that point.

​@@hutics8544 I believe he became cold because he's broken and traumatized. He's numb from all the pain he went through. He blamed himself for the deaths of his family, friends, and comrades. He felt useless and carried that heavy burden all throughout the show. His father's memories were transferred to him and he realized that there was a bigger scheme of oppression going on and he was a victim and in center of all of it. Eren's hurting deeply on the inside.
