Erdogan's Third Term: What Can We Expect?| Inside Story
What can be expected from President Erdogan's third term?
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan re-elected in run-off vote - but faces big domestic and foreign policy challenges ahead.
It went to a run-off after a very tight first round, but Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the clear winner of Turkey's presidential election.
Opponents expressed dismay with the result reflecting deep political divisions in the country.
A key player between east and west, Turkey's relations are complex with the NATO member also on good terms with Russia.
So what can we expect from Erdogan's third term at home and abroad?
Presenter: Folly Bah Thibault

What many folks don't appreciate is that Erdogan is dancing both the West and the East to attain what is best for Turkey. His relations are of convenience, as it should be for any powerful nation. The US, China, and Russia always do what is in their best interest. Why not Turkey? Erdogan is wanting to set Turkey free from being neither here nor there in any alliance as any such committment is limiting and restricts Turkey from a higher potential to self actualise into what it historically always was - a power onto its own that has cordial relations with all major powers and is respected as fair and just, but without allegiances. This is what Turkey is striving for. The West needs to respect Turkey as being free and appreciate that by expecting Turkey to comply with everything it wants and expects, Turkey is shackled into being a conforming nation that has no voice. Erdogan has greater ambitions for Turkey, and rightfully so because Turkey has enormous potential, and it needs to grow without others limiting its growth with bread crumbs for being a goodie goodie compliant 'ally'

Turkey is historically a barbaric Islamic country responsible for numerous genocides and atrocities by expatriating millions of innocent people from their ancestral lands. Chrstian Europe is well aware of Turkeys genocidal past and will never allow them to attack any of its members countries. For this Eason Turkey will never b Llowed to join the EU because NOBODY wants Islamic savages in their country.

Its only unappreciated because the opposition is blind to reality. The west has done so much to infiltrate Turkey and has failed time and time again. This, and the 2016 coup are the closest they ever got. Even now Erdogan prevails. If Erdogan and his party are taken out of their positions, Turkey will become weaker and more vulnerable then its ever been before.
"Right now it's no secret that Turkish economy has been under heavy fire especially from the West" 🤦♀
The fact that Al Jazeera is using the word "Turkiye" rather than "Turkey" is notable. Western media sources are sticking to using the word "Turkey". This indicates the closeness of Qatari and Turkish relations.

@@QUINTUSMAXIMUS Inflation is a big deal. It is expensive for most people on low or medium incomes. Here in London, England, my household energy bill has sky rocketed to £5000.00 from £1500.00 a few years ago, and food prices have increased, all the other utilities bill have also doubled. We have to cut back on other things to pay for these bills. I was in Istanbul last year and I was amazed to see how it's infrastucture has developed and expanded. Prices were high in the city of Istanbul. I was surprised how much the taxi driver were charging but the public transport was still cheaper then in London.
Hoping for the best for the people of Turkiye and less negativity from the western media.

What are you on about? Inflation was 85% last December. It is at 45% now. Turkiye just started pumping natural gas for the first time ever. This will reduce import, hence would increase the value of lira

The Turkish economy can't be fixed merely increasing interest rates which will only benefit the bankers. A new approach is needed. Turkey needs to research for energy, oil/ gas. This will open the door for export.

Actually the inflation rate was above 80 percent in December last year and now it's almost below 40 percent and gradually on a decline.
