'Take A Chance On Me' was taken from the 'Abba-esqe' EP, originally released in June 1992, the EP reached number 1 in the UK charts, Erasure's only number 1 single. The video was directed by Philippe Gautier, who also made videos for Eurythmics, Lisa Stansfield, Belinda Carlisle and Associates. The EP also features 'Lay All Your Love On Me','SOS' and Voulez-Vous.

Martin Gore often talks about how Depeche Mode were told to hold chickens and other embarrassing things to do on video to make them look silly and to see how far they could be pushed. Maybe Andy thought it would be fun to use the same tactics with Vince. 😁

The resemblance is UNCANNY
What people forget is how this EP not only got Erasure to Number 1 in the charts in the UK in June 1992 but also spearheaded the Renaissance of Abba. Not long after this charted ABBA Gold was released and Erasure’s influence on this renaissance was mentioned. The rest is history as they say.

Ummmm, I think Muriel's Wedding predated this, and probably did a whole lot for the ABBA revival.

My mother was very ill when this came out and a massive Erasure fan, so to cheer her up I dragged up and did a whole routine, well, well out my comfort zone!

They're so excellent. Oh L'Amour will always remind me of summer time pool parties and innocent fun...summer in the 1980s when I was a kid. I feel sad to think that there are people who don't have great childhood memories to return to or who cynically, inappropriately and bitterly bring politics and the greater world's misery into a simple conversation filled with gratitude for the small and lovely universe that a suburban immigrant child enjoyed. I'm terrifically grateful and hope everybody reading this in the future has some simple sensory triggers that remind them of how unbelievably lovely their life is or definitely WAS at certain times in the past. Yeah - I hate it. It totally disrupts the flow of the song. And the woman doing the rap is just really overdoing it. It's like she's SCREAMING. I'm sure she isn't intentionally trying to sabotage the song, but I think it definitely undercuts it. I wish they would take it out.

Abba-esque has earned a permanent spot among my favourite EP's
We were in the middle of the War - Yugoslavia, and I was dancing with this hit with my neighbor in the "breaks" of not being attacked, or boomed . It stuck in my mind how we, then the 10 years old were perceiving Abba. Now we of course have another cultural trend. So, gen Z- as a millennium I do understand you, but always firstly search where the original beat /music/meaning comes from. Research is the key to understand the history of the decade. Anyhow, this video was a bombshell in my time, and great support to many communities :D

People like them better because they bring more modern and innovative vibe, that the new listeners appreciate more than the 70's original version. Happens to almost every cover version of an oldie hit! That's why artists do them, as an homage and also to bring these gem back from history into current times and give them a new shiny clothes and makeup. Like here literally! LOL!

the beauty of music in the 80s and 90s, is the videos were peak wackiness. this would have never happened with a group, from the two thousands or later, too many people worried about what people think of them. i love this song so much, because of the way it's totally nuts on its own.
the world can not thank those two enough for coming up with this brilliant EP... who knows what would have to ABBA Gold.... of course there was Muriel's Wedding and Priscilla around the same time... all in all they kickstarted the revival that keeps on going forever... YEAH

Erasure has some impressive talent They consistently made incredibly catchy songs, and then redid a ton of already catchy songs and just kicked it into overdrive
Still 30 years later I am still scrathing my head that serious Vince agreed to do this video. Anyway it' a winner and I 'love how the not only the song but also the video is a homage although tongue in cheek , to ABBA.
My all-time favourite Erasure video, by a mile! Also happens to be a brilliant cover of one of my favourite ABBA classics - what's not to love?

I ADORE Erasure! these guys, Andy, and Vince, are pure, and unique GENIUS!!!! They make me feel so good with their music!! It's the only electronic music I love, so much! And they are the ultimate! Every song is just so neat!!! They make you feel good, beautiful stylings and counterpoint, and they oftentimes were hilarious!! Andy got Vince to do a bunch of incredibly funny stuff, on top of the FANTASTICALLY UNIQUE music!!! I just cant get enough!!!! I could listen to their amazing stuff, all day!!
