Eracing Lab - Building The Surge Platform

The first step in setting up the eracing lab ultimate system is to build the surge platform. Here we go over the steps to build the surge. Feel free to drop comments and questions and I will address it.

    hey, thank you for making this video. Recently, I have been looking on the internet to understand how to build the surge platform. I was surprised how little info I could find. Your video is by far the most detailed. Awesome job!

    So here's my personal pro tip for the next builder... Make the surge platform an inch or so wider than the Rig frame. I made my cuts the same, but i'm finding the actuators are bowing in a bit. I'm 3d printing a spacer to try and use for time being but just ordered a set of 4 aluminum spacers (same ones that come with rig) to double up on them. Alex at E-Racing did say they had a 40mm custom milled extrusion spacer as well in case anyone needs to go that route.

    Interesting. If you do cut the surge an inch wider, how would the surge attach to the rig?

    @@simul8master I’ve got several MM of gap between the brackets which I mounted inside, and the rig frame. I feel like if I spaced the rig out a little more when building it on the surge it would fit perfect. Just a thought. I’ve got a lot of tweaking to do! And you are right about the vertical 4040 actuator bracket for the surge, it’s way too small. It just seemed like it would fit better before it was all put together. This might be more of a thing for RigMetal platforms as they are a bit imperfect lol

    @@simul8master Another note would be that the 40x160 in the rear of the bottom TL platform, that allows for the 'sway' of the wheels, doesn't need to be 51 in. You could easily get away with 6-9 inches or more, less. Right now, as I measure it, at max travel on either side, I have 5~ inches of unused room. The pics are old the E-racing sends as some things changed, and the metal plates/wheel tracks are much wider than the pics. You could almost put them together to make one giant metal plate (the measurements might be exactly that on the width).

    Awesome video! Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Do you find the traction loss rails are longer than they need to be? Or do most people make them larger to ensure they don't bump off? Eracing-labs needs to link your videos. Keep it up man! The channel will build slowly. Great content. Thanks!

    I would rather have it cover the whole profile without the gap but it works as is now. But for sure the longer the better. If someone does not plan this right, it will fall off especially if the rails are even shorter than they are today.

    Hi Mate!! nice video again. maybe a bit too late 🤔😃 but..... Here is something to think about...... I am using a sfx100 and also build a surge platform BUT .....did something strange... I build the surge on a inner frame and mounted the seat and pedals on it. on the outer frame with the actuators i mounted the steering base and the surge platform within only moves a FEW cm forward when braking and smoothly back under accelerating of course i know it sounds a bit weird but really gives the feeling like your body get pressed out of your seat (closer to your steering wheel) when braking Believe me... the braking feels so good and realistic now

    I have done something similar with fixed steering and actuators just moving the seat/pedals. Similar to 'Race Beyond Matter'. Really like it, as you can feel constant Gs through the steering wheel that a standard motion frame cannot mimic.

    At 7:40 you talk about the brackets being installed on the outside and colliding with your vertical profiles - do you not bolt the brackets (or rollers?) to the upper rig so that they surge with it? Is that not how it works? (i'm researching this as im about to order :) ) - thanks for your time

  • @simul8master

    @simul8master

    2 ай бұрын

    You do bolt it to the actual rig but there is an actuador that moves the actual rig back and forth for surge. So as it moves back and forth, the brackets are fixed in place so if you do not have clearance, it will hit.

    Test #1 - Surge not completed yet. Couldn't install the rails w/ the M6 bolts I had. The heads were too big, hoping some new Amazon ones will do the trick that are exactly 10mm wide (socket cap). Using Sim Racing Studio, works out of the box. I updated firmware on Thanos to Fix7 that was just released, but haven't played with or confirmed Servo Driver settings. First thing I noticed is that each actuator has a little bit different travel, some more than others. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mGielKNsmbXHk5s.html

    Literally doing this right now ... just took delivery of the surge & tl kit. Have you built the surge with an extra inch of width or just match the exact frame size? My gt evo is 58cm wide so as per comments above was thinking or ordering the surge frame as an inch larger.

  • @FamiliaColl

    @FamiliaColl

    3 ай бұрын

    @tomyippeekiyay2781 it gotta be the same exact dimention as the GT1 EVO, 500mm qty 2, 1350mm qty 2 and 210mm qty 2 these are to hold the actuator all of the 40x80 profiles. If you add an inch it won't clear the 4 main movement actuator and it wont fit on the rails.

Turns out my RigMetal Flagship is about the same size, 1300mm Length 40x80 pieces, and 500mm(19.7") wide pieces so the measurements are basically exactly the same, minus the length. All 40x80mm cuts getting sent to local place I found that is a 80/20 dealer and has free pick up. All these cuts are under 700$. I just need to order the 120mm piece's from 80/20 or elsewhere as local place is fresh out of 120. # of Pieces Size Length of Cut 4 40x80 1300mm 2 40x80 500mm 2 40X80 200mm 2 40X80 1740mm 4 40x80 540mm

    @@simul8master You mentioned you got your extrusion from Framing Tech. I need to get the 120 from a non-local supplier (they are out) and was curious about their shipping turn around time for you. How long from order to cut/ship did it take them? I'm on their site now and built an order but no mention of their lead times. I'm between Framing tech and Parco right now, they are cheaper than 80/20 and shipping isn't bad to the SE. Oh, and how is your paint holding up? I'm debating whether or not to locally anodize or powder coat the extrusion.
