Looks like that people confuse two words and mix the meaning of those words: equality and identical. Equality is not the same as identical. People are never identical (similar) to each other. All people are always different because everybody - that is to say - every human is unique. Equality originally means that in front of the law everybody is treated equally. That means that everybody has equal rights and equal responsibilities from the legal point of view. So, lets not confuse these two different things: equal and similar (or identical). Women are not identical to man. Men are not identical to women. Both should be treated the same in front of the law, that means they should have equal rights and responsibilities in law.

t's nothing more than racial quotas. They just destroyed the schools for the academically gifted in NYC because certain "groups" didn't make the grade. So, rather than encourage the "groups' to study harder (like the Asian students do), they eliminated the entry qualifications in favor of a lottery system. They in effect numbed down the elite schools. I don't know what other country in the world would do such a self defeating thing, particularly in light of the fact that the USA rates 22nd in the world when it comes to math and science. Anyway, it was done to meet racial quotas. So much with a color blind, merit based society.

Everyone needs to re-read the actual definition. Diversity/Inclusion 🔊 /dəˌskriməˈnāSH(ə)n/ˈrāˌsizəm/ noun 1. the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex. "victims of diversity" example: Tanner (Caucasian), wanted to play Santa Clause in an upcoming role in the Christmas play. DeShawn (you know) Also wanted to be Santa in the play, because a girl named Becky (Caucasian) was playing the girl that sat on Santa's lap. Tanner spent months practicing his acting, and memorizing his lines, while DeShawn spent his time smoking pot, and writing rap lyrics. On the day of auditions Debbie (feminist/leftist/racist) who was running the play, chose DeShawn before the auditions even started. This was for reasons of inclusion, and to show Her woke friends that the school supported diversity. Becky got Herpes.

They will become uncompetitive if an employer must grant paid family, maternity health insurance, can no longer arrive late and leave early because of child issues or cannot come to work if school is cancelled. You get the idea. An employer is now forced to accommodate many special and expensive issues when employing young women.

it is against the law but still happens. At an interview how can you prove you had been rejected. The promotion goes to someone else because of your minority status but there's always excuses they can make to protect their decision. I have experienced negative comments at work for my status by a manager but feel powerless because if I complain I will get bullied. The manager has had several complaints against him for misogny but nothing happened just a warning. Some people think this is just freedom of speech but it's not nice to receive it when all you want to do is your job and be liked... after all most of us want to be accepted. I don't think anyone likes jabs and sly comments being made every even now and again. It makes you distrust your colleague or manager.

There are people who do amazing things by using trash and we can use manure to grow vegetables/fruits that we love to eat. I hate it when people say: "You're poor/old/ugly, you go to hell." "It's not good to tell/write dirty words." "You sound ridiculous, old-fashioned, cruel..." Basically what I mean is: all the people and all the things are welcome provided they don't put people's lives at risk. I think Heaven may be a kind of hell where you can't tell jokes, you can't have sexual intercourse and so on. And hell may be here. I think God is everything and He's everywhere, including in hell. No organization or business on Earth would surely want a workforce based on equality except some tyrannical, dystopian, authoritarian regime. We NEED hierarchies based on competence not an ever increasing complexity of anti-competency based criteria. If I hire someone it should not be based on ensuring I get more diversity in race, colour or religion, for example, but on whether these people are competent for the role. This is the type of positive discrimination the world really needs. Today it seems any type of discrimination is bad. Yet, society could not function without it!

It’s is called tribalism and unfortunately it is endemic to human beings . You see it if you go to a football game , you see it in politics , in religion , in nationalism , one class versus another , ethnic , gender , racial politics and conflicts or even conflicts different departments in larger companies . This behaviour is endemic to human beings . So forget about trying to eliminate this . You will end up being frustrated and defeated because you are trying to change something that is endemic . The only way you can attempt to do it is by suppressing this innate instinct via the fear and repression of a fascist dictatorship . Most people do not want this and they will overthrow an imposed dictatorship ultimately . So learn to accept that human beings are flawed and rather than looking for ideal solutions or systems look instead for non ideal trade offs .

I need to understand what Equality is for work. I've watched countless videos and read pages of documents and I'm no clearer. What is this video proposing, that we humans are no longer allowed to discriminate? It's a natural process we do for every other aspect of our lives, we discriminate heavily for our life partners, the food we purchase and eat, even the toothpaste we use! We choose the best fit for everything in life. Why can't an employer choose to not hire an undesirable candidate? If an employee works less than the others, why should they get paid the same? How is this sustainable? At the end of the day, if it's the bottom line that makes or breaks a company, how on earth can it survive if the company is forced to hire ANYONE and pay them full salaries REGARDLESS of what they earned. This isn't making any sense to me. Decisions in life come with trade-offs. If we want to build a society that is completely equitable, is the trade off then to not be competitive? This is clearly the case when you imagine a company choosing to NOT be equitable, and instead only hiring the most ferocious team of go-getters they could find, and they incentivize them with bonuses. This company would out work, and out earn their equitable competitors who were not allowed to select the best of the best, and aren't allowed to incentives them with (un-equal) bonuses. I honestly don't understand this nation-wide governmental initiative.

A_50_Foot_Roman this equality thing has gone too far. We already have equality of opportunity that is real equality, but now we are aiming for equality of outcome... capitalism is completely against this where the goal is profits and is not guaranteed... This is about social engineering...they are acting like a religion, bringing their morals into companies for the supposed betterment of society as a whole. Their goal is to push more people of different persuasions into your face so everyone gets along better in society. Nothing else is their goal, it's about reducing prejudice towards other people. That's fair enough if you want to change hearts and minds towards others like all religions do... But keep your religion out of the office! Keep your socialist ideals out of the office! I can't believe Google, Facebook, BBC, etc would fall for such an obvious attempt to bring an oligarchic system to control people's minds... Oh wait...😀

I think you are confusing discrimination and differentiation/distinguishing. We can distinguish between different things. That is a human adaptation of recognizing patterns. Conversely, while stereotyping is a form of pattern recognition, it is not a desired behavior. I guess it all has to do with awareness. Discrimination in the workplace (which is what this video is about) is an intentional choice to make decisions about a person based on their personal characteristics instead of things like: merit, performance, suitability to the functions of the job, background in the field, etc. If I actively choose to hire someone based on their gender, race, physical disability, veteran status, religion, family background, then I am practicing a form of discrimination-- illegal discrimination in my hiring practices. This happens more often than you would think, because people can have a bias in favor of someone who is more like they, themselves are (A man hiring only men, for example) and not even be aware of their bias. On the other hand, if I have discriminating taste regarding healthy foods, then that is my personal taste. The word discrimination takes on a different context entirely, here, and therefore has a different connotation.

Wow, It's been 7 yers since I made that comment, and over 9 years since that video was made. In all this time, this "diversity, equity, and inclusion" certainly has metastasized into quite the belief system we all know as wokeness. I remember having so much trouble trying to understand what the woke language was trying to communicate. I no longer have to wonder, I have seen the true nature of this belief. Though, I think it is now your turn to understand what wokeness is truly about. Ironically, you mentioned that the video is really about discrimination, but are you aware, that in today's woke landscape, hiring positions are absolutely discriminatory and are absolutely anti-meritocratic. What you are describing may have been the way it was in the 1950's, but it absolutely was not the way it was in the year 2000-2015, and that's when the woke belief really started building up. As a way to correct this non existent problem, positions are very often only awarded to people in the woke protected hierarchy. Public schools have black-only spaces, clubs, and curriculum. We see places like the Oscar's, Disney, Investment management firms like BlackRock, and University positions strictly insisting that people of "diverse backgrounds" be given the part / position (whites and asians need not apply since they are"over represented"). This is not about merit, but about discriminating for and against based on race, orientation, and gender. See, here's the problem with this video, and this entire belief system. YES an award or position should cast the widest net possible to find the best of the best no matter the race, orientation etc. If the best person for the job is X, we should not discriminate. This is true. But, the problem with wokeness, is it looks at the OUTCOMES and does not see "diversity" based on its narrow criteria of mostly physical traits (it doesn't want diversity of opinion), and it INFERS that there was discrimination somewhere in the process (it doesn't know where, so it makes up a term called "systemic racism") - (the pope of woke, Ibram X Kendi says this explicitly). Wokeness believes that everyone is the same (not equal, THE SAME). And if we are all the same, there should be an exact correlation between racial/orientation etc. demographics in society, and it ANY and EVERY job, movie, etc. It does not allow of any explanation (like culture) as to why there isn't (and will never be) a perfect reflection. I could leave it there, but there is still another dark component to wokeness. It doesn't just simply fight for an exact replication of racial percentages in all forms, if you are paying attention you will notice that it doesn't care about those quotas when they do not favour white people (take basketball for example), same for hiring practices, etc. It's not fighting for male nurses either. It's a one sided effort that posits the straight white male as the oppressor, and everyone else as the victim. This is the true nature of this nonsensical belief system that relies on vague language to manipulate good people, such as yourself, to give cover for its real goals. If you don't believe me, look into it for yourself. See if you can find out why those university directors (Harvard, UPenn and MIT) couldn't bring themselves to say that the anti-semitism on their campus' was against their code of conduct. Look into why Disney only race-swaps in one direction, or why so many young female athletes are have to compete against, and get injured by men. Look into John McWhorter's book Woke Racism for a start.

The Canadian Constitution specifically allows for discrimination against men and whites. When the Constitution was written in 1982, it forbade discrimination based on gender and race. However, feminists and non-white groups objected. They said that their '"progressive" programs require discrimination against men and whites. So an escape clause was added to the constitution to allow discrimination but only against men, boys and whites.

equality means everyone gets the same rights, gets equal treatment and opportunities... if some types of people still fall way behind when given equal treatment, that is still equality if you have to build a special ramp for a disabled person, that is not equality, that person is getting special treatment that no one else is, even if they need it, its not equal treatment
