Polyester resin gets stiff and brittle with she whereas epoxy resin keeps it's flex characteristics much much longer. For a normal surgery that didn't want to replace their boards constantly the epoxy is definitely the way to go. Epoxy resin is also 4x stronger than polyester resin and generally more flexible as well.

EPS doesn't bother me, it's him who doesn't like me! (LOL)

Epoxy is resin PU is foam. I think they mean Epoxy vs Polyester

Presumably different layups if they’re similar weight?

Same lay ups. The blanks are the same. Resin difference on application is also the same so only difference would be the actual weight of remaining resin on the board and then obviously any human error or discrepancy. I think these boards were within 0.1 of a kg different in weight.

Meanwhile the average surfer probably won't feel the difference in a blind test ...

Possibly, but I would disagree that it doesn't make a difference to the average surfer. An average driver still has preference to the car they drive. Not all drivers are Lewis Hamilton. It's a case of finding what works for you and data sheets and field tests are brilliant to at the very least bounce off. Epoxy laminates should in theory be quicker to flex back to neutral position so even if the average surfer can't feel that from surfing both they can trust it's happening based on data and field test from guys like Logan. Then make an informed decision on their next board. Subtle differences can help anyone. Or as often is the case, ignorance can be bliss. What ever works for you is the right way. As long as everyone is having fun in the water. 🤙🤙
