I especially like how wood that would normally not be suitable for fine furniture is reworked not only into functional pieces but also into beautiful works of art. Good call using just the red epoxy. In this instance, simpler is definitely better. Keep up the great work!

The blue behind you on the wall is exquisite BTW What I would like to do is a river table with a double dirty pour on each side of the river with opposing colors so that they run together on their own but don't stir them. See what happens. The possibilities are endless with your show. But table is awesome and the music is equally awesome. Nobody could be depressed watching your videos

    Hi this is the coolest thing I have seen in years. I love you work. I am a retied Film ( Movie) Prop builder. I have a question and don't take it as criticism . There are infinite ways to do the same thing and like i said I'm a big fan. The question is could you use your router to cut out your river ( slot ) including the ends of the piece lets say 1/2 "- 3/4 " deep bypassing the need for steel reinforcement and the second casting pour and achieve the same results? if not why ? thank you your fan eddie

  • @StoneCoatCountertops

    @StoneCoatCountertops

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Eddie thank you for taking the time to watch our videos! You are absolutely correct there are many different ways to achieve your end goal in a project! Thinking out of the box can lead to awesome discoveries! You can totally router out a river and fill that space. You may still consider installing the support bars because it keeps the project from cupping or warping but you would need to use less of the Casting epoxy. Be aware that doing it this way will show on your edges that the river does not fullly go through the wood! Give us a call sometime Eddie, we would love to speak with you! 541-450-1976

    Like Mike said , the edges will show the wood/epoxy relationship... However, lets say your table thickness is 1". You router your river 1/2". When you get about 8" from each end, gradually router from 1/2" down to 1" at the ends. This way you will not see the wood/epoxy on the ends. Only epoxy.

    Great question Ruben! We always use a propane torch to remove air bubbles incorporated into the epoxy while mixing Here is a link to our favorite torch head. This is used with off the shelf small propane bottles: www.amazon.com/Bernzomatic-TS4000-Trigger-Start-Torch/dp/B00008ZA09/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=stoncoatcoun-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=1079ed93ce4f9a3210140881ab1ed4ed&creativeASIN=B00008ZA09 For this project we used our dark red metallic powder with our casting epoxy. what if you did a heavy char on the live edges and a lite char over the whole thing, then only filled the red metallic like 3/4 of the way up then switched to clear above that so that a portion of the heavy char actually visually drops down the side of the live edge.

    Dave, I finally found someone who fits in my shoes. I am also 60 years old. Injured my back in 1991. Been through every therapy known to man for three years after the injury. Prior to the injury, I started working with my father-in law who was a Master craftsman. He spent 6 years in four different countries working toward his Doctorate. He was heavily involved in the rebuilding of the California State Capital in the 1980's. He built the 12 foot arched doors and the spiral stair cases. Another thing he built was the windows made of solid Teak for the American Embassy in Bangladesh. He gave me car trunk loads of exotic lumber. He took his life shortly after his wife passed. I also worked with a Japanese furniture designer who lived directly across the street. We worked together for nearly ten years before passing away at 96. He never used a nail or a screw. He also didn't speak English but 99% of woodworking is international, so we got along well and communication was very good. After he passed, I had no reason to stay. About my woodworking experience. I built a 90 degree table saw at 11. My father was so amazed and pissed at the same time I didn't know what to think. The next day I went to do some woodworking and there was a brand new Craftsman saw. I got right to work to design a project for the limited tools I had. In Middle school I held the record for the most woodworking classes in the three years, nine classes. 7th 1 class, 8th 2 classes, one standard and 1 Teachers Assistant, 9th 3 classes 1 standard, 1 Teacher Assistant and 1 remedial PE which I spent 4 days a week in the wood-shop. On to high-school Freshmen year. Boy was my teacher dope. After a few weeks, the teacher noticed that students were coming to me for advice and not him. Most of the students were from my middle school anyway, they knew me. Near the end of the year, the Teacher was giving a how-to on dado blades and their uses. He cut his thumb off, just hanging by some skin. It was clear to me that not a person in that school could teach me anything about woodworking so I applied for community collage. Unfortunately I had to wait until the next semester. Found a great job in 1978 making $12.00 per hour. and a $1.00 per Hr. raise annually. Great job, couldn't turn it down. Still finished my community collage courses and had a great job. Scott (Woodwizzard)

    What do you do with the drips that harden up?

    I have missed drips on the underside once before. Better to catch them while they are not dry and wipe them flush. But, if you missed it like I did... I used a contractors knife to cut them off.... it is a rough process friend.

    Unfortunately these guys don't read the comments or they just don't give a damn. I found someone else that responded right away, so I hired those guys to do my job. The piece already arrived and it's flawless. I won't be a douche and say who I used instead of Stone Coat but I'm glad the way things turned out.

    YES, or like someone skinned a button of human butts, and poured thick liquid over them, or like upscale diarrhea. also I can't stand thick plastic like finishes. Still they did an amazing job on the table, even if in my subjective opinion is looks like.. Well ass haha.

    Love your videos, I've been looking at the epoxy tables for months, never even thought that you can use stonecoat casting resins for this, I only thought they were just for floors and countertops and I have to say that the finish is by far the Best I've seen when it comes to a glossy finish, nice job!
